As of Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, 88.1% (4,392,141) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.9% (4,133,438) have received their second dose.
In addition, 92% (4,262,385) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 89.2% (4,133,262) received their second dose and 19.6% (909,248) have received a third dose.
Also, 92.3% (3,993,382) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 89.6% (3,877,423) received their second dose, and 21.0% (908,376) have received a third dose.
B.C. is reporting 3,795 new cases of COVID-19, including two epi-linked cases, for a total of 254,849 cases in the province.
There are currently 20,811 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 231,058 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 220 individuals are currently in hospital and 73 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.
The new/active cases include:- 1,944 new cases in Fraser Health
- Total active cases: 9,050
- 965 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health
- Total active cases: 7,135
- 320 new cases in Interior Health
- Total active cases: 1,792
- 129 new cases in Northern Health
- Total active cases: 494
- 434 new cases in Island Health
- Total active cases: 2,336
- three new cases of people who reside outside of Canada
- Total active cases: four
In the last 24 hours, three new deaths have been reported, for an overall total of 2,423.
The new deaths include:- Fraser Health: one
- Vancouver Coastal Health: one
- Island Health: one
There have been two new health-care facility outbreaks at Kopernik Lodge (Vancouver Coastal Health) and Amica Douglas House (Island Health), for a total of 15 facilities with ongoing outbreaks, including:- long-term care:
- The Oxford Senior Care Home, Fort Langley Seniors Community, AgeCare Harmony Court, New Vista Care Centre, Chartwell Langley Gardens, Chartwell Carlton Gardens, Chartwell Crescent Gardens, Guildford Seniors Village (Fraser Health);
- Kopernik Lodge (Vancouver Coastal Health);
- Ridgeview Lodge (Interior Health); and
- Amica Douglas House (Island Health)
- acute care:
- Mission Memorial Hospital (Fraser Health); and
- Lions Gate Hospital (Vancouver Coastal Health)
- assisted or independent living:
- The Waverly Seniors Village (Fraser Health)
- mental health and substance use:
- UBC Hospital - Detwiller Pavillion (Vancouver Coastal Health)
From Dec. 23-29, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 16% of cases and from Dec. 16-29 they accounted for 55% of hospitalizations.

Since December 2020, the Province has administered 9,399,015 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines.

COVID-19: Hospitalizations mount as B.C. confirms 3,798 new cases, no deaths

British Columbia confirmed another 3,798 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday as hospitalizations continued to rise.
The number likely represents an undercount of the true situation, with the province continuing to urge anyone with mild symptoms and not in an at-risk group not to seek testing.
The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 climbed by 19 overnight, for a total of 317. Of them, 83 COVID patients were in critical or intensive care.
There were no new deaths reported Wednesday. The update left the province with 29,967 active cases...

As of Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, 88.4% (4,406,651) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 83.1% (4,140,207) have received a second dose.
In addition, 92.1% (4,267,843) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 89.3% (4,139,941) have received their second dose and 22.5% (1,042,480) have received a third dose.
Also, 92.4% (3,998,399) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 89.8% (3,883,599) have received their second dose and 24.1% (1,041,515) have received a third dose.
B.C. is reporting 3,223 new cases of COVID-19, including one epi-linked case, for a total of 273,731 cases in the province.
There are 31,817 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 238,524 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 324 individuals are in hospital and 90 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation...

Province records 3,144 new cases of the disease as testing continues to be limited

B.C. health officials say 349 people are now in hospital with COVID-19, including 93 in intensive care, as the province reported nine more deaths from the disease and 3,144 new cases on Friday.
The new numbers represent an increase of 25 COVID-19 patients hospitalized within the last 24 hours, including three more patients in the ICU.
Experts say hospitalizations are a more accurate barometer of the disease's impact, as new case numbers in B.C. are likely higher than reported, now that the province has hit its testing limit because of the Omicron surge.
As of Thursday, 23.9 per cent of COVID-19 tests in B.C. are coming back positive, according to the province's COVID-19 dashboard. On Vancouver Island, 29.1 per cent of tests are positive.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has said that anything above a five per cent test-positivity rate indicates a concerning level of community transmission...

B.C. health officials say 431 people are now in hospital with COVID-19, including 95 in intensive care, as the province reported seven more deaths from the disease and 6,966 new cases on Monday.
The new numbers represent an increase of 82 COVID-19 patients hospitalized over the last three days, including two more patients in the ICU.
Overall hospitalizations, which typically lag behind spikes and dips in new cases, are up by 44.6 per cent from last Tuesday, when 298 people were in hospital with the disease. Hospitalizations have more than doubled compared to a month ago when 211 people were in hospital...
