  • Thailand - Tamiflu distribution to clinics in Bangkok

[Note: Unless I am mistaken, 50 capsules will treat 5 patients for 5 days...]

BANGKOK, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Ministry of Public Health began distributing the anti-flu drug Oseltamivir among clinics in Bangkok on Sunday, amid the government's efforts to reduce the fatalities from the A/H1N1 influenza, Thai News Agency reported.

Each clinic is receiving 50 Oseltamivir capsules, the report quoted Somyod Deeratsamee, Director-General of the Department of Health Service Support, as saying after the meeting with about 100clinic operators in Bangkok Sunday.

The department has delivered the anti-flu drug to the ministry's local offices in every province. Though distribution of the medicine to clinics nationwide depends on work efficiency of local health officials, he believes all clinics across the country will receive the anti-flu drug against the A/H1N1 influenza by Wednesday.

In addition to private clinics, more than 100 government community clinics and health centers are ready to provide medical service to patients with flu-like symptoms, Somyod said.

Oseltamivir capsules, given to patients under doctors' supervision, are free of charge, but the patients have to pay for doctors' diagnose or other medicines, he added.

According to the Public Health Ministry's latest data on Wednesday, the A/H1N1 flu death toll nationwide rose to 65 and the number of infection cases to 8,877, compared to 6,776 a week ago.
