Nursing home leaders outline possible sites dedicated to coronavirus-positive residents
Nursing home leaders have proposed at least nine facilities where residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 could be moved to avoid spreading the disease to the rest of the population.

The facilities, some of which are vacant buildings, would provide about 1,000 beds for people who have tested positive for the virus. Those facilities would take in those ill residents from existing nursing homes and assisted living centers, as well as hospitals.

Nursing home operators have suggested moving healthy residents out of buildings where others have tested positive. Those buildings would then become facilities dedicated to COVID-19-positive residents. The healthy residents would be re-routed to nursing homes where others have tested negative for coronavirus.

Matthew Barrett, head of the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities, also sent a list of vacant or recently shuttered..https://ctmirror.org/2020/03/30/nurs...ive-residents/

18 positive COVID-19 cases being reported at Kansas nursing home

BURLINGTON, Kan. – Eighteen people at a Kansas nursing home have tested positive for the coronavirus COVID-19, according to a spokesperson.

The executive director of the Life Care Center said they learned about the first case in Burlington, Kansas, located a little over an hour south of Topeka, last Thursday. Now 11 residents and seven staff members are sick.

KSNT-TV reports some of the residents are in the hospital and others are being isolated in the nursing home.

The state’s official numbers only show 10 cases in Coffey County where that facility is located. KDHE only updates their numbers once a day.

It is also unknown where those seven staff members live because the nursing home won’t release that information.

In addition to the 11 recent deaths, another 11 surviving residents of the Soldiers’ Home have tested positive for COVID-19, as have five staff members, according to the state Department of Veterans Services. 18 COVID-19 cases linked to Coffey Co. nursing home

(WIBW) - Health officials say more than a dozen positive COVID-19 cases are linked to a nursing home in Coffey County.

The Life Care Center of Burlington is at the center of the outbreak.

The Coffey Co. Health Dept. says six new positive tests came in Monday, including a 39-year-old woman. The other cases are in people ages 77 to 90.

The first eight cases linked to the facility came in last week, with patients ranging in age from 20 to 90.

"We know that the containment of this infection is very difficult in care facilities," Coffey Co. Health Dept. Administrator Lindsay Payer said.

Lyon Co. Health officials confirm three more cases associated with the facility are in people from Lyon county.

In a statement Monday night to the Kansas City Star, the nursing home's director said they have at least 18 cases, involving 11 residents and seven workers. She said the workers are recovering at home.

It is not known in which county the person with the additional case resides.

Life Care Center is owned by the same company that owns a Wyandotte Co. facility where a resident died from COVID-19, and a Seattle facility that saw several deaths from coronavirus.

The state is racing to contain a coronavirus outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home that turned deadly last week and spread unbeknownst to both the governor and the city’s mayor — plunging families into mourning and leaving plenty more scrambling for answers.

Thirteen veterans had died as of Tuesday afternoon. Six of them tested positive for COVID-19, one tested negative, five are pending results and one is unknown, state officials said.

“It’s so scary. It’s horrible,” said Kimberly Ryan, of West Springfield, whose 86-year-old grandfather, Walter Downing, lives at the home.

RICHMOND, Va. -- More than 40 residents of Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare in Henrico have tested positive for COVID-19, according to managers at the facility. Twenty-two of the 41 positive test results were reported over the past four days.

"It is with heavy hearts that we report the virus has claimed the lives of seven total Canterbury residents with confirmed COVID-19 diagnoses," a statement from the center read. "Two additional resident deaths are thought to be COVID-19 related."
Thirty-two patients are receiving treatment either at a regional hospital or at Canterbury.

"Our hearts go out to the families of those who have passed, and we deeply feel the loss within our community," Jeremiah Davis, Administrator, Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, said in a statement. We also are continually monitoring all Canterbury residents for COVID-19 symptoms, along with daily employee screenings. Those employees with respiratory symptoms or fever are prohibited from entering the facility."

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — There are now four COVID-19 cases at the Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center & Hospital in Baltimore, a statement from LifeBridge Health confirmed Wednesday.

Three cases were originally confirmed by the Baltimore City Health Commissioner earlier Wednesday morning. LifeBridge Health said there are four confirmed cases, one is a patient in the specialty hospital and three are on their sub-acute rehab unit. A staffer also tested positive and is recovering at home in quarantine.

They said there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in residents of the long-term care facility.

“Levindale is a unique facility that offers several types of care, including a long-term residential care facility, sub-acute rehabilitation and a specialty hospital, which includes a high-intensity care unit,” LifeBridge said in a statement....https://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2020/...ltimore-cases/

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Southern California nursing home has more than 50 residents infected with coronavirus — a troubling development amid cautious optimism that cases in the state might peak more slowly than expected.

Cedar Mountain Post Acute Rehabilitation in Yucaipa has been told to assume that all of its patients have covid-19, San Bernardino County Department of Public Health Director Trudy Raymundo said. As of Tuesday, 51 residents and six staff members had tested positive. Two patients have died.

The nursing home east of Los Angeles isn’t accepting new residents, and the facility has been closed to visitors under Gov. Gavin Newsom’s stay-at-home order, Raymundo said.

The announcement came as Newsom said extraordinary efforts to keep people home have bought time needed to prepare for an expected surge of cases in coming weeks. He said the slower-than-forecast increase in cases means the peak is now likely to occur in May.

“To be truthful and candid, the current modeling is on the lower end of our projection as I talk to you today,” Newsom said Tuesday. “Very easily tomorrow I could say something differently, and that’s why one just has to be very cautious about this.”...https://triblive.com/news/world/more...attlefield-be/
