My deepest sympathy to this individual's family. I'm being briefed on this situation, and my team is in close coordination with public health and agriculture officials. Workers at affected farms are advised to take safety precautions, but the risk to the public remains low.

Harry Feinstone department of molecular microbiology and immunology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, told ABC News.

According to Pekosz, "the sequence of the virus" shows that it has remained active.

"It's sort of the same virus that has been around for a couple of years now," he said. "So, this all indicates that the virus continues to spread in dairy cows."
