AH1N1 has caused 89 deaths
Most of the 1,700 carriers Venezuelans live in the capital region

Every day more elongate tentacles AH1N1 influenza virus in Venezuela. According to the latest update to the Ministry of Health, corresponding to 8 October, the new flu has caused 89 deaths and has infected at least, to 1,711 people.

In one week, AH1N1 virus infected 71 people and caused the deaths of four more. Two deaths were reported on 6 October, one day 3 and another on day 2. The Health Ministry did not provide any information about the deceased, if they were healthy or debilitating diseases earlier, pregnant, obese or belonging to vulnerable population groups in the country or area where they lived.

The regions with the highest number of cases are demographically the most congested, as usual in pandemics. Those most affected are the Capital District, with 315 confirmed cases of a total of 1,070 samples tested by the National Institute of Hygiene and Miranda State, with 287 people infected in a total of 823 suspects. In percentage terms, 29.4% of the analyzed samples from Caracas reported a positive result while the incidence was higher Miranda, recording 34.8%.

Anzo?tegui, Zulia, Carabobo and Aragua are other states with over 100 carriers of influenza AH1N1. In Anzoategui, 24.2% of samples tested were positive for AH1N1, confirming about 122 carriers a total of 356 suspects. In Zulia, which registered 115 infected with the virus and 475 suspects, the proportion is 24.2%.

The expected vaccine

Using as its basis the common flu vaccine, several international laboratories created the vaccine against the virus AH1N1. Restricted production has reached only a few countries like USA, which acquired immunization in a nasal spray to vaccinate high-risk groups and health system officials. In China and Australia have already begun mass inoculation campaigns. Venezuela, according to Health Minister Carlos Rotondaro have 5 million vaccines from January.

For the World Health Organization, the vaccine is the most important tool to combat the pandemic, although it can cause mild side effects like muscle cramps or headache. However, they suggest that any person is vaccinated can access immunization.

WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said that "it is important to remember that vaccines already approved, have been used for years as a seasonal vaccine and proved to be among the safest there.

According to Hartl, was "doubly" important that healthcare workers are immunized, "because it protects them and their patients."

The laboratories are producing the vaccine are commercially Sanofi-Aventis, Glaxo Smith Kline, Novartis, Baxter and AstraZeneca. Although not finalized the cost, is estimated to be between 7 and $ 8 each, then, according to figures from the laboratory, GSK prepares 44 million vaccines at a cost of $ 3,500 million.

17 pregnancies from 90 deaths in the country by AH1N1

Luis Carias

Caracas, October 13 (Edited) .- While the balance of AH1N1 infected by bird in the country amounts to 746 thousand, the death toll is 90. Nine thousand 805 samples have been studied by the Ministry of Health. However, as other data submitted to the Pan American Health Organization to reflect in its report the deaths in the country reached 94.

The Deputy Health Minister, Indira Corado, reported Tuesday that the 90 deaths, 17 were for pregnant women. In most cases saved the babies by Caesarean section. Furthermore, 75% of patients had complications before the doctors filed late in the fifth or sixth day of illness.

Added to that those infected did not attend a medical center to identify the symptoms, Corado said that 80% of dead people was vulnerable to influenza A was suffering from morbid obesity, heart problems, pregnant, or had "underlying pathologies, is ie diseases aggravated by influenza A, including diabetes and obesity. "

Figures from the deputy not only correct or contradict the previously provided by the health minister, Carlos Rottondaro, who on October 6 reported that there had been hitherto thousand 900 positive cases and 87 deaths, but those granted by the OPS to Through its weekly report on disease and whose sources are the Ministries of Health of the 35 American countries studied.

Moreover, the number of positive cases is 1765 according to information that supports the OPS, and 1746 according to official statements from the Venezuelan Ministry of Health.

As reported by PAHO dating dated October 9, Venezuela has a mortality of 5.3% over the number of cases and the number of deaths presented. The neighboring country, Colombia, has a rate of 4.5%, digit remains high. However, the fact is perhaps most disturbing, Mexico, birthplace of the disease around the world and in so far 40,236 have been infected and 260 deaths, which averaged 0.6% of mortality.

By contrast, Brazil has been affected by 9 thousand 249 influenza A, and 899 people have died, indicates that 9.7% of mortality. Argentina averaged 0.5%, Chile 1.1% and Peru 1.8%.

The trend of respiratory illness was mostly decreasing and low or moderate intensity in South America, while its impact on health care services was moderate in the Venezuelan case.

While the number of deaths decreases, the second wave of AH1N1-expanding in the United States extends as the first. Question that has caused concern, as the first wave caused a dent in the health systems of each country.

The pandemic, however, had little spread in the world's fifth largest oil producer compared with other nations, to the extent that neither the government nor business or tourism organizations reported significant losses.

In the three months following the first death, the authorities decreed a high alert at airports and seaports of the country where tests were carried passengers from the United States and Mexico, which has the highest number of cases.

But neither is declared moratoriums on classes or attending schools or government offices were closed and few people were on the streets with face mask.

Vice Minister of Public Health Network, Mrs. Corado, explained that most of those killed by the H1N1 virus was due to delayed medical care because the doctor came after five days of showing symptoms of influenza.

Health Ministry sources said that most of the cases reported in Venezuela have an underlying condition, which complicates the health of people, most of which has conditions such as diabetes or obesity.

Venezuelan authorities, however, have not dropped their guard and the government recently announced it will buy about five million human influenza vaccines, doses should arrive in the country in early 2010.
