YTD: 22 Counties: 10
There were 12 new WNV human cases reported in California this week from the following counties: Fresno (1), Kern (2), Los Angeles (4), Sacramento (1), San Joaquin (1), and Stanislaus (3). These are the first WNV human cases from San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties this year.
1 WNV-related fatality has been reported to CDPH in Sacramento.
22 human cases from 10 counties have tested positive for WNV in 2016.
DEAD BIRDS
YTD: 851 Counties: 29
There were 17 new WNV positive dead birds reported in California this week from the following counties: Contra Costa (4), Glenn (1), Nevada (1), San Diego (9), Santa Cruz (1), and Solano (1). This is the first indication of WNV from Nevada County this year.
851 dead birds from 29 counties have tested positive for WNV in 2016.
MOSQUITO SAMPLES
YTD: 1,841 Counties: 30
There were 354 new WNV positive mosquito samples reported in California last week from the following counties: Butte (12), Contra Costa (2), Fresno (17), Kern (9), Kings (13), Lake (4), Los Angeles (45), Madera (3), Merced (1), Placer (15), Riverside (5), Sacramento (56), San Bernardino (5), San Diego (18), San Joaquin (36), San Mateo (2), Santa Clara (2), Santa Cruz (1), Stanislaus (45), Sutter (4), Tulare (16), Yolo (40), and Yuba (3).
1,841 mosquito samples from 30 counties have tested positive for WNV in 2016.
A mosquito sample may contain up to 50 individual mosquitoes.
SENTINEL CHICKENS
YTD: 84 Counties: 12
There were 11 new WNV positive sentinel chickens reported in California last week from the following counties: Los Angeles (9), San Diego (1), and Solano (1). This is the first WNV positive sentinel chicken from Solano County this year.
84 sentinel chickens from 12 counties have tested positive for WNV in 2016.

Two more O.C. residents infected with West Nile virus

West Nile virus continues to spread in Orange County, with two new human cases reported and infected mosquitoes found in three more cities, vector control officials said Thursday.
So far this season, three residents have been diagnosed ? from Anaheim, Irvine and Orange, all cities where mosquitoes have tested positive, said Mary-Joy Coburn, spokeswoman for Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District.
The first case last week, in Anaheim, was a woman in her 60s; the newest cases are women in the 50-64 age range.
