Meningitis risk rises in wake of flu season
Jan 10 2011 by Madeleine Brindley, Western Mail

Add a commentRecommend WALES could be hit by a rise in the number of cases of potentially lethal meningitis in the wake of the winter flu season, health experts have warned.

Parents are being urged to be aware of the symptoms of meningococcal disease, which includes meningitis and septicaemia.

Public Health Wales is also contacting GPs about the link between outbreaks of flu and a rise in cases of meningococcal disease.

Children under five are thought to be most at risk, even if they have been vaccinated against meningococcal disease.
