Bangalore, Sep 17 (PTI) With two women succumbing to swine flu, the death toll due to the virus in Karnataka rose to 71, health officials said.

A 28-year-old woman died at a government hospital here on September 12 and another 55-year-old woman on September 13, they said.

Meanwhile, 22 persons tested positive for the H1N1 virus, taking the number of positive cases to 829.

Out of the 22 fresh cases, 19 were reported from Bangalore, two from Chitradurga and one from Bagalkote, the officials added.

H1N1: Two more deaths, 22 fresh cases
Bangalore:

Two more persons succumbed to the H1N1 Influenza, raising the death toll to 75 in the State, and 55 in Bangalore on Thursday.

Fifty-five year old Renuka and 28-year-old Pushpa died at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) on September 13 and 12 respectively; however their swab test results arrived only on Thursday which confirmed them positive for flu.

Renuka, a resident of Sarjapura, had visited a private practioner in her area and arrived at RGICD in a very critical condition. A doctor from the Institute said that Renuka had developed bi-lateral pneumonia and was gasping for breath. She apparently died even before she was put on ventilator on the same day of admission.

A native of Ramanagara, Pushpa too had visited a private doctor and had suffered from flu like symptoms for seven days before arriving at RGICD. She was diagnosed with bi-lateral pneumonia and was on anti-biotics. Pushpa however expired a day after the admission. Apart from Pushpa being obese, both the patient did not have any pre-exiting illness.

Bijapur

The H1N1 has taken another life in Bijapur, taking the toll to six in the district. Revubai Nagappa Heera (40) of Shivanagi village in Bijapur taluk who had passed away on September 12 was a victim of H1N1. She was suffering from fever since September 5 and was initially admitted to a private hospital in Devar Hipparagi and was later shifted to Bijapur.

The doctors, suspecting H1N1 infection sent her throat swab to Bangalore for pathological investigation. The report confirming the H1N1 infection reached on Wednesday, four days after her death.

Meanwhile, 22 fresh cases tested positive for the flu raising the total number of positive cases to 829 in the State. Out of these, 19 were reported from Bangalore, two in Chitradurga and one in Bagalkote.

CHICKABALLAPUR: Chickaballapur Deputy Commissioner Anwar Pasha on Thursday said Kadirappa (65) of Shidlaghatta taluk had died of A(H1N1) infection. Kadirappa, a farmer from Kundalagurki village, died at Devaraj Urs Medical College Hospital in Kolar on September 4. On September 14, it was officially confirmed that he had A(H1N1) infection, Mr. Pasha said in a press release. ? Special Correspondent

Bangalore, Sept 19 (PTI) Swine flu claimed two more lives in Karnataka, taking the statewide toll today to 73.

A 12-year-old girl and a 29-year-old man succumbed to the disease in the city last night. The reports of their throat swabs samples confirmed H1N1 positive status today, health officials said.

Meanwhile, 21 more persons tested positive for the H1N1 virus, taking the total number of confirmed swine flu cases in the state to 873, the officials said.

While 18 cases were reported from the city, one each was recorded from Bidar, Bijapur and Gulbarga.

Suspected A(H1N1) death in Bellary

BELLARY: A 40-year-old woman from Koppal district is suspected to have died of A(H1N1) at the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Science (VIMS) here on Sunday.
Director of VIMS Devanand told The Hindu that the patient, who was undergoing treatment at Gangavati, was shifted here on Saturday.
Medical investigations revealed that she was suffering from biogenic pneumonia and was diabetic.
Her throat swab had been sent for further investigation, Dr. Devanand said.
The patient was administered Tamiflu but had failed to respond to treatment.

Child dies of A(H1N1) influenza

GULBARGA: Another A(H1N1) death has been reported in Gulbarga, taking the total number of deaths to two in the district.
District Health Officer Nalini Namoshi told The Hindu here on Sunday that a one-year-old girl had been admitted to a private hospital on September 15 with high fever and respiratory disorders.
The throat swab of the child was sent to National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences for tests on September 16 and the child died on September 17. The test results which came back on September 19 confirmed that the child died of A(H1N1).
The child had reportedly been suffering from fever for a long time and was provided treatment in private clinics in Chincholi and other places before being brought to Gulbarga in a serious condition.
Dr. Namoshi said that Tamiflu was immediately administered to the child, but the child did not respond to the treatment.

27 samples

Dr. Namoshi said that so far 27 samples had been sent to NIMHANS for tests.
The results of nine patients had been received so far. Of this, two cases were positive and the remaining seven were negative.
At present five persons with suspected A(H1N1) influenza are undergoing treatment in the private hospital.

One more succumbs to H1N1 flu in Mysore

H1N1 influenza has claimed another life in Mysore on Sunday. With this, the total number of people who have died of H1N1 in the district has gone up to two.

The deceased, identified as L Siddaraju (34) of Hinkal, was admitted to a private hospital following fever on Wednesday last. The throat swab sample sent to a laboratory in Bangalore confirmed that Siddaraju was suffering from H1N1 influenza. However, he failed to respond to treatment and died on Sunday. Siddaraju?s death sparked off a protest at the private hospital accusing the Government of not providing proper treatment for him.

Later, police arrived at the scene and pacified the agitators. Meanwhile, wife of the deceased, Nagamani, children, Jeevan and Mamatha are admitted to K R Hospital for suspected H1N1.
14 fresh cases reported in State
Banglaore, DHNS: Fourteen cases tested positive for H1N1 influenza raising the total number of positive cases to 887 in the State on Sunday. Out of the positive cases, 10 were reported in Bangalore, 3 in Kolar and one in Gulbarga. Till date there are 78 deaths in the State, with 57 alone reported from Bangalore.

The State Surveillance team will continue surveillance in the urban and rural areas to contain the disease. Meanwhile, 49 licensed outlets will soon sell the anti-viral drug across the counter, with ?Schedule X? prescription.

We have recorded the infant already, I think that Renuka is the same Renuka that has previously been reported as a 55 yo. Manjula is new. Toll 81


H1N1: Clinical audit to begin today
Bangalore, Sep 21:

The Health department will begin its 'clinical audit ' from Tuesday to know the actual cause for death of those who have succumbed to H1N1 influenza.

Giving the details of the audit, Dr Usha Vasunkar, director of Health and Family Services, said that Monday's meeting discussed the procedure of audit. "Though 40 per cent of the deceased had co-morbid factors (pre-existing illness) and many died due to late admission, we still wish to conduct an audit to know the actual cause for death,? she said.

The audit will be conducted based on the case sheets of the deceased which will be collected from different hospitals. Dr Shashidhar Buggi, Director of RGICD, said that a chart has already been prepared with all the details of the deceased like name, age, sex, symptoms, cause of death etc. "The team of auditors will sit and scrutinise the details along with case sheets to know the cause for death", he said

Three more deaths

Three more have succumbed to H1N1 influenza, taking the toll to 81 in the state. In Bangalore alone, 59 have succumbed to the flu. Two women expired at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) while one-year-old girl died at a private hospital in Gulbarga.

Manjula (35) and Renuka (22) died, a day after their admission at RGICD. A doctor at the Institute said that both the patients were in a very critical condition and were put on ventilator, immediately after their admission. However, their condition deteriorated and died. Swab results which arrived only on Monday tested them positive for Flu.

Meanwhile, 12 fresh cases tested positive for H1N1 influenza-11 in Bangalore and one in Bijapur--taking the total number of positive cases to 899 in the State.

Swine flu toll rises to 79

Bangalore, Sept 23 (PTI) Swine flu claimed three more persons in the city, taking the the death toll due the deadly virus to 79 in Karnataka, health authorities said.

"A five year-old girl succumbed to the flu virus yesterday in a hospital in Udupi, while a 17 year-old boy and 15 year-old boy passed away in government hospitals in Bangalore on September 19 and September 15 respectively," authorities said.

As many as 17 positive cases were reported today, taking the total number of confirmed H1N1 cases to 934 in the state

Three A(H1N1) influenza deaths were reported in the State on Wednesday, taking the death toll in the State to 86. While one of them took place in Udupi, two persons were reported dead in the city ? one in a private hospital and the other in a government hospital. The two patients who died in Bangalore were men and were aged 37 and 66. The patient in Udupi was a five-year-old girl, according to a press release by the Directorate of Health and Family Services.

Swine flu toll mounts to 82 in Karnataka

Bangalore, Sept 24 (PTI) Swine flu has claimed three more lives in Karnataka taking the pandemic related toll in the state to 82, health authorities said today.

Results of the swab samples of the three suspected flu patients, who died in the past one week, were received today and it confirmed their H1N1 status, the authorities said.

A 39-year-old man had succumbed to swine flu at a private hospital here on September 19, while a 45-year-old man had died at a government hospital here on September 21.

The third casualty was a 34-year-old man who died at a private hospital in Mysore also on September 21.
Twenty one fresh swine flu cases were reported today, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 955 in the state.

The Hindu is counting the third death as a new one, and reporting 35 years old as opposed to 34. Coupled with the repeated dod 9/21, (Siddaraju died 9/20) I too will count it as a new case.

Bangalore: The influenza A(H1N1) death toll touched 89 in the State on Thursday with three more deaths being reported in Bangalore and Mysore.

While a 39-year-old man died in a private hospital in Bangalore, a 45-year-old man died in a government hospital. Another 35-year-old man died in a private hospital in Mysore.
Although these persons died three days ago, but their reports were received on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 21 more persons tested positive on Friday taking the number of confirmed cases in the State to 955. These include 12 from Bangalore and five from Bijapur, according to a release issued by the State Health Department.

Bangalore, Sep 26 (PTI) A one-year-old baby has died of swine flu, pushing up the toll due to the pandemic to 83 in Karnataka.

The infant succumbed to the flu on September 17 at a private hospital in Gulbarga, a health official said here today.

Fifteen more positive cases were reported which included 13 from Bangalore and one each from Bijapur and Bellary taking the total confirmed H1N1 cases to 990 in the state.

Two persons have tested positive for the virus
GULBARGA: Two more deaths have been reported in Gulbarga district owing to A(H1N1) influenza.

With this, the total number of deaths in the district owing to the virus has gone up to four.

District Health Officer Nalini Namoshi said that a 40-year-old vegetable vendor from Afzalpur taluk and a one-year- old-boy from Aland taluk, who were suffering from symptoms of the flu, had died on Thursday.

Their swabs were sent to Bangalore for test. Test reports received here on Friday confirmed that they had A(H1N1).

Meanwhile, two others have tested positive for the virus in Gulbarga. She said that the two patients, a medical professional and a three-year-old girl, both from Gulbarga city, were responding to treatment. They were admitted in private hospitals here with symptoms of the flu.

Second swine flu case in Bellary

BELLARY: VIMS superintendent Vidyadhara Kinnal on Tuesday confirmed that Sujatha (40) died of swine flu on September 20. Sujatha, a native of Koppal
district was admitted to VIMS hospital on September 19 after a week-long treatment in Koppal. She was also suffering from diabetes and pneumonia. She was administered tamiflu but she failed to respond. Her blood samples reports confirmed H1N1.

On Tuesday another H1N1 affected patient, identified as Basavaraj Gouda (35) from Koppal district was shifted to Bangalore from the city's St Mary's Hospital. His brother-in-law Raju Gouda said that they shifted him on the advice of the doctor on Tuesday afternoon.

Bangalore: Two more A(H1N1) deaths have been reported in the State taking the total number of deaths to 91. The latest fatalities are that of a 33-year-old man, who died in a private hospital in Kolar, and a 38-year-old woman, who died in a private hospital in Bangalore.

Although the two died on September 25, their reports confirming they tested positive for the disease arrived only on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, five more persons tested positive for the disease taking the total number of confirmed cases in the State to 1,020.

All the five are from Bangalore, according to a release issued by the State Health Department.

Sakleshpur youth dies of suspected A(H1N1)

HASSAN: Janardhan (21), an autorickshaw driver from Kudugarahalli in Sakleshpur taluk, died here on Monday of suspected A(H1N1).

He had a fever and cold and had difficulty breathing for five days. He was brought to the government hospital in Sakleshpur on Sunday, after which doctors shifted him to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS).

As there were no ventilators at HIMS, the doctors suggested to his relatives that he be taken to Bangalore for further treatment. They also arranged for an ambulance. However, the patient died on the way to Bangalore, at Kunigal in Tumkur district, on Monday.

His body was brought to Sakleshpur and cremated in Kudugarahalli later that evening.

District Surveillance Officer Hemalatha Shivakumar, who visited Kudugarahalli on Monday, told The Hindu that the patient had pneumonia and his blood samples were sent to Bangalore for analysis. She also visited houses in the village to ascertain whether any person had fever. She advised people there on ways to help prevent A(H1N1) infection.

Bangalore: Two more A(H1N1) deaths were reported in the city on Thursday taking the toll to 94 in the State. The latest victims are men, one aged 31 and the other 36. They died in private hospitals on September 30.

Meanwhile, 12 more people have tested positive for the virus taking the number of confirmed cases in the State to 1,045. While 11 of these are from Bangalore, one is from Bijapur.

Flu toll touches 100

BANGALORE: The H1N1 flu toll hit the 100 mark. Although a person succumbed to the contagious disease, officials in the state health and family
welfare department are yet to confirm it. With this, the toll in Karnataka has reached 100 on Saturday.
On the same day, 16 persons were tested positive for H1N1 flu. Eleven were from Bangalore and five from Gulbarga. Another person died due to H1N1 flu in the state, officials confirmed.

Medics donate one day's salary

Members of Karnataka Government Medical Officers' Association donated one day's salary, totalling Rs 35 lakh,(3.5 million) to the Chief Minister Fund for flood relief on Saturday. They doctors stated that they are forming teams and visiting areas affected by flood to provide healthcare services

Bangalore, Oct 6 (PTI) With three more persons succumbing to swine flu virus, the death toll due to the pandemic in Karnataka has risen to 103, health officials said today.

A 31-year-old woman died in a private hospital here on October 2 and an 18 year-old man in a government hospital on Oct 3. A 38 year-old woman succumbed to the flu in a private hospital here yesterday, the officials said.

With 27 persons testing positive for the virus, the total number of confirmed cases has mounted to 1,113, the officials added.
