Bangalore: A 28-year-old man died due to swine flu, taking the toll in the pandemic to 44 in Karnataka.

The man was admitted to a government hospital in Bagalkot on September 2 with flu symptoms and died on September 4.

The swab results, which were subsequently sent for analysis, tested positive today, health officials said.

They said 17 people -- 13 from Bangalore, two from Bagalkote and one each from Belgaum and Chitraduraga -- tested positive for swine flu today, taking the number of confirmed cases in the state to 619.

Throat culture samples of 2849 cases have been analysed till date.

Two people have succumbed to H1N1 in the State of death due to H1N1 Influenza on Tuesday.



While one death was reported in Bagalkot, the other was reported from Davangere.Bagalkot reported its first death due to H1N1 Influenza on Tuesday, while no deaths were reported due to the flu in Bangalore. "

A 28-year-old man, who was admitted to Government Hospital in Bagalkot, succumbed to the flu on September 4. However, his test reports arrived only on Tuesday, taking the death toll to 44 in the State.
Davangere report said, a 11-month-old infant succumbed to H1N1 flu.

17 fresh cases
Meanwhile, 17 fresh cases of H1N1 were reported on Tuesday with the total number of confirmed cases adding to 619 in Karnataka. While Bangalore registered 13 cases, Bagalkot received two and one each in Belgaum and Chitradurga.

Bangalore, Sep 9 (PTI) With three more persons including a five year-old boy succumbing to swine flu, the toll due to the pandemic in Karnataka mounted to 47, health officials said today.

The boy and 40-year-old man had died in a private hospital in Bagalkot and a 36-year-old man in KIMS hospital, Hubli, on September one, six and seven respectively but reports confirming their H1N1 status were received only today, the officials said.

"In all the cases the patients came in late with suspected H1N1 symptoms," the officials said.

Meanwhile, thirty-five people tested positive for swine flu today, taking the number of confirmed cases to 654.

Throat swabs of 2,940 suspected cases have been tested till date, the officials said.

Swine flu toll rises to 52 in Karnataka


Bangalore, Sep 10 (PTI) Swine flu has claimed five more lives in Karnataka, raising the toll from the pandemic to 52 in the state, health officials said today.

Out of the five deaths, three were reported from the state capital while one each from Davangere and Bijapur, they said.

An 11-month-old boy and a 13-year-old boy, who were admitted to private hospitals in Davangere and Bangalore respectively last month with suspected H1N1 symptoms, died two days ago, officials said, adding their test reports today confirmed H1N1 status.

Two men, aged 59 and 53, succumbed to the disease in Bangalore and Bijapur respectively on September 5, while a 22-year-old woman died in Bangalore on September 8.
Their swab results confirming H1NI status were also received today, officials said.

The number of confirmed swine flu cases rose to 686 with 32 fresh cases reported today.

Experts warn of winter upsurge of A(H1N1)

Bangalore: The World Health Organisation?s (WHO) warning that the Influenza A(H1N1) virus might see a possible upsurge during the upcoming winter season in the South East Asian region, including India, is worrying pubic health experts.

?The H1N1 virus, which had resulted in the Spanish flu outbreak in 1918, keeps changing. This virus, which was in a more virulent form in 1918, was not very severe in the recent outbreak. So we expect the upcoming winter upsurge might be more virulent. Although a vaccine will be ready by then, the worry is that mutation of the virus and the availability of the vaccine will run parallel. Some people might develop drug resistance causing more problems. But we hope that the virus might become milder,? Dr. Narendra Saini, India?s representative in the Global Hygiene Council, told presspersons on Thursday.

Six deaths


Six persons, including a 11-month-old baby, died of A(H1N1) in the State in the last two days. With this, the number of flu deaths in Karnataka has touched 53.
The latest victims include four from Bangalore (two died in the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases and two in private hospitals), one from Davangere (a 11-month-old baby) and one from Bijapur.

The four deaths in RGICD include one of a pregnant woman aged 32, who died three days ago. RGICD Director Shashidhar Buggi said her reports arrived on Thursday. RGICD director Shashidhar Buggi said the rise in the number of deaths was because of the delay in administering tamiflu.

H1N1: Six more succumb in State

Six more persons succumbed to H1N1 Influenza raising the death toll to 54 in the State on Thursday. Four deaths were reported in the City and one each in Davangere and Bijapur.



Two deaths in the City were reported at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD). Dr Shashidhar Buggi, director of the Institute said that 20-year-old pregnant woman succumbed to the flu as she had arrived at a very critical stage. "The pregnant woman was 36 weeks into pregnancy and was to deliver shortly, but due to late admission, she expired," he said.

Late admission
He added that another 40-year-old woman also succumbed at RGICD due to late admission, but her reports were missing in the Health department update on Thursday.A 13-year-old boy admitted to a private hospital on August 22 succumbed on September 8, while 59-year-old man admitted on September 3 expired on September 5 in a private hospital in the City.

Eleven-month-old boy succumbed at a private hospital in Davangere, the baby boy was admitted on August 26 and expired on September 8.
One person died in Bijapur, taking the district?s toll to four. Shivaling Savalagi (40) of Babaleshwar, who was admitted to Hospital on September 1, died on September 6. He did not respond to the treatment given. The swab tested positive for H1N1.
So far, 11 persons have tested positive for H1N1 in Bijapur. Seven of them responded to treatment, and have recovered.

32 fresh cases
Meanwhile 32 fresh cases tested positive for H1N1 Influenza out of which 25 were reported in Bangalore, 3 in Bijapur, one each in Bidar, Davangere, Bellary and Mysore. Till date 686 persons have tested positive for Flu in the State.

Bangalore, Sept 11 (PTI) Five more persons -- all women -- have succumbed to swine flu, taking the toll from the pandemic in Karnataka to 57, health officials said.

While four died in government hospitals here, the fifth one succumbed to the virus in a private hospital in the district headquarters town of Kolar, they said.

While a 40-year-old woman died yesterday, two women, aged 20, succumbed to the virus on September 7 and 8 respectively.
A 31-year-old woman died on September 8 and the virus claimed the life of a 60-year-old lady on September 7.

The test reports confirming their H1N1 status were received today.

They said 22 persons -- 19 here and one each in Bijapura, Kolar and Gadag -- tested positive for the virus today, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 708.

BANGALORE: Five more Influenza A(H1N1) flu deaths were reported in the state on Friday, including four from the city. The toll rose to 57 in
Karnataka.

All four Bangalore cases were women who died in government hospitals. A 40-year-old, admitted on September 3, died on Thursday; a 20-year-old, admitted on Monday, died the following day; another 20-year-old woman admitted on Sunday, succumbed the following day, and a 31-year-old, admitted on Monday, died on Tuesday.

On Friday, 22 positive cases of H1N1 flu were reported in the state. Of the 22 cases, 19 are from Bangalore, one from Bijapur, one from Kolar and one from Gadag.

Bangalore, Sept 12 (PTI) Four more persons, including a one-year-old boy, have succumbed to swine flu, raising the toll from the pandemic in Karnataka to 61, health officials said today.

While a 62-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man died here on September 8 and September 10, the child and a 28-year-old man succumbed to the virus in Hubli and Gadag on September one and 9 respectively, they said.

Test reports confirming their H1N1 status were received today.

At least 29 people -- 24 here, four in Bijapur and one in Gulbarga -- tested positive for the virus today, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 737.

Four persons test positive for H1N1

MYSORE: With four persons testing positive for H1N1 flu virus on Saturday, the number of positive cases has risen to 10 in the district.


District health surveillance officer Dr Nagaraj said all the four aged below 10 years were admitted to hospital following complaints of fever, running nose and throat infection, four days back. As they were diagnosed under category C they were immediately put on Tamiflu after sending their swab samples for testing. On Saturday, the test results from National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bangalore, stated they were infected with the virus.

Of the four, two were discharged as they had recovered while the other two are undergoing treatment, but their conditions are stable, according to Nagaraj. So far, the health officials have taken 97 swab samples in the district of which 10 have been tested positive.

Meanwhile, neighbouring Mandya district has recorded 12 suspected cases. But, the district authorities are yet to receive the results of a 30-year-old woman who died recently. Surveillance officer Dr Harshvardhan said the woman hailing from Malavalli was a suspected case.

First A(H1N1) death in Gulbarga


GULBARGA: A five-year-old boy who died of respiratory disorders and fever on September 8 in a private hospital here had swine flu. Swab samples sent for tests in Bangalore confirmed this on Saturday. This is the first death in the district owing to A(H1N1). According to information received here, the victim was initially treated for fever in his village and at Shahapur. He was shifted to the private hospital here on September 5. Sources said swab samples of 15 persons had been sent for tests at NIMHANS in Bangalore. The results of seven samples were available and of them, only one tested positive for A(H1N1). ? Special Correspondent

With five new swine flu deaths being reported from Karnataka, the death toll due to the H1N1 virus in the state has reached 62, a health official said in Bangalore on Sunday.

Two deaths due to swine flu were reported from Bangalore, and one each in Hubli, Gadag and Gulbarga.

However, the report confirming that all five tested positive for the virus was received only on September 12, the health official said.

Bangalore victims include a 62-year-old woman who died in a private hospital September 8 and a 44-year-old-man who expired in a government hospital on September 10.

Moreover, a one-year-old infant boy succumbed to the virus at a government hospital in Hubli on September 1.

The fourth and fifth H1N1 victims include a 28-year-old man who died at a private hospital in Gadag on September 9 and a five-year-old boy who died at a private hospital in Gulbarga on September 8.

In order to control the rising number of H1N1 flu deaths in the state, Karnataka's health department has decided to take up a surveillance programme.

"Experts from health department will survey areas and families affected by the flu. Firstly, we'll conduct a door-to-door survey in Bangalore Urban district. The programme will soon start," Karnataka principal secretary (Health) IR Perumal told IANS.

Meanwhile, 29 fresh cases tested positive for the H1N1 Influenza with 24 cases reported only in Bangalore, four in Mysore and one in Gulbarga. Till date 737 people have tested positive for flu in the state.

Bangalore , Sep 13 Three more persons, including a five-year old boy, have succumbed to the HIN1 virus taking the toll due to the pandemic in Karnataka to 64, officials said today.

A boy, who was admitted to a private hospital with suspected symptoms of swine flu in Gulbarga passed away on September 8, while a 60-year-old man died in a private hospital on September 4 in Kolar and a 29 year-old-woman became a victim of the swine flu in a private hospital in Bangalore yesterday, health officials said.

The report of of swab samples of the three received today confirmed they suffered from H1N1 infections, they said.

Twenty-three positive cases of HIN1 were reported yesterday including 18 cases in Bangalore and one each in Belgaum, Dharwad, Raichur and two in Bijapur, taking the total cases confirmed for Influenza A HIN1 to 760 in the state.

Or 65? FWIW I have recorded 64 so far. The total of 65 could indicate a positve test result for the individual in post 11 above.

Bangalore:

Two more persons succumbed to H1N1 Influenza raising the death toll to 65 in the State. One death each in Bangalore and Kolar were confirmed of H1N1 flu, however the swab test results were received only on Sunday.


A twenty-nine-year old woman, admitted on September 3 to a private hospital expired on September 12. A sixty-year-old man, admitted on September 3, at a private hospital in Kolar, succumbed to the flu on the following day.

Meanwhile 23 fresh cases were reported positive for H1N1 Influenza with 18 cases reported only in the City. Two cases were reported in Bijapur and one each in Belgaum, Dharwad and Raichur districts.

Till date the total number of positive cases has risen to 760 in the State.

Active surveillance

The Health Department has started "active surveillance", visiting door-to-door under Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike areas on Sunday.
An official from the Health Department said that health inspector, along with paramedical staff, visited around 100 houses to check the health of the community.
"There is method for doing this, random houses will be visited and the family of a particular house fills the format given about their health conditions. There will also be a check, if any member has come in contact with any patient who has tested positive for H1N1 Influenza", said the health official.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Special Commissioner, Maheshwara Rao meanwhile confirmed the survey being conducted jointly by the Palike and the Health Departments, both at the State and Central level.

Study survey

“The survey is a joint effort among the health departments and the Palike to study the pattern of Influenza spreading across Bangalore,” he said. With the City witnessing the highest number of deaths attributed to the deadly H1N1 influenza, the Governments are pulling no stops to identify the missing link in containing the spread of the virus.
The study is concentrating on acquiring random sampling from members of houses suspected of having influenza symptoms.

A 17-year-old boy died on September nine while two women-- aged 27 and 24, succumbed to the virus on September 11 and 13 in private and government hospitals respectively, they said.

A total of 19 persons -- 16 from Bangalore, two from D H Chikkaballapura and one from Bagalkote -- tested positive for the flu today, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 793, the officials added.

Four more deaths were confirmed of H1N1 Influenza in the State on Tuesday.


While three of the victims were from Bangalore, one victim - a 26-year-old woman was from Belgaum. With this, the death toll in the City has crossed the 50-mark. The number of the Influenza related deaths in the State has now gone up to 70.

A 17-year-old boy was admitted to a Government hospital on September 8, but passed away on September 9. Similarly, a 27-year-old woman, who was also admitted to a Government hospital on September 11, succumbed to the flu on the same day, while a 24-year-old woman died at a private hospital on September 13 after being in the hospital for 19 days.

Curiously, the test results of the two children who died at Vanivilas Hospital were tested positive for H1N1 on Monday. But this was not reflected in the official update to the media from the Health department. A year old boy and a four-year-old boy expired due to the viral flu at the hospital on Saturday. As the hospital did not have facility to collect the swabs, their swabs were collected at Victoria Hospital on Friday.

Meanwhile, 19 fresh positive cases were reported in the State, taking the total number of positive cases to 793. While 16 were from Bangalore, two were from the District Hospital Chikkaballapur and one from Bagalkot.

BANGALORE: The latest victim of the deadly H1N1 flu is an infant at Victoria Hospital. On Monday, two children including the infant died there.
Though hospital authorities confirmed that the deaths were due to the flu, the health department did not.

Besides the children, three persons succumbed to the flu on Tuesday. With this, the state's toll has gone up to 69. All the three deaths were from Bangalore, two from government hospitals and one from a private one. The deceased are a 17-year-old male, a 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman. Their test reports were confirmed only two days after the death.

On Tuesday, 19 people tested positive for the flu -- 16 from Bangalore, one from Bagalkot and two from Chikaballapur.

To control the epidemic, the active surveillance programme in BBMP areas has completed its third phase, covering 4,500 households. Sensitization programme for doctors in Bangalore Urban and Rural districts has also been completed.

Two more deaths were attributed to the H1N1 influenza on Wednesday, taking the death toll in the State to 73.

A 35-year old-man admitted to a private hospital in Bangalore on Sept 9 expired on Sept 15. In another case, a 40-year-old woman admitted on Sept 11 to a private hospital in Bijapur succumbed the next day. Fourteen fresh positive cases were reported on Wednesday, with eight cases in Bangalore, three in Bijapur and one each in Mysore, Gadag and Belgaum.
