Blaine memorial proposed for baby who died of H1N1-related illness

A neighborhood in Blaine wants to install a climbing wall in honor of a 9-month-old boy who died from an H1N1-related illness.[/B]
The climbing wall for toddlers would be placed in South Lake Park in The Lakes development, resident Greg Broder told the Blaine Park Board on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
More than 45 families have contributed money toward the project, and a plaque would be placed about 6 feet from the climbing equipment, Broder said.

Commissioner Rex Markle proposed that staff work with Broder to develop a site plan that could be brought to the Park Board at a meeting in January or February.
Parks and Recreation Director Jim Kappelhoff said Broder submitted a description of the plan, which will be an agenda item at a January meeting. The Park Board will make a recommendation to the City Council after reviewing the proposal.
The City Council recently approved a policy for naming/renaming city facilities, such as building, parks and streets, which the Park Board supported. Kappelhoff said the city could move forward with the naming/renaming policy or a memorial policy, which is also in place.
- Kappelhoff updated the board on progress concerning Lakeside Commons Park, which is slated to open next May in The Lakes development. A walk through with the consultant, contractor and city staff was scheduled for Monday, Nov. 30, and an update will be presented to the board in January. Kappelhoff said all the facilities are constructed, with interior painting and flooring still to be completed.

Joshua Neves was the first and only child to die in the Islands from swine flu. He had no pre-existing conditions. He died on June 19. Joshua was three years old. 
I do hope your daughter get's well. Please post any stories of children from New Mexico. There are way too many cases that are swept under the rug. Best wishes for the holidays
