[h=1]Coronavirus concerns: Don’t travel on cruise ships, US State Department warns[/h] Updated Mar 08, 2020; Posted Mar 08, 2020By Leada Gore | lgore@al.com The U.S. State Department is warning Americans against traveling on cruise ships due to concerns over coronavirus.

In a tweet, the State Department said: “U.S. citizens, especially with underlying conditions, should not travel by cruise ship. CDC notes increased risk of #COVID19 on cruises. Many countries have implemented screening procedures, denied port entry rights to ships and prevented disembarking.
“In some cases, local authorities have permitted disembarkation but subjected passengers to local quarantine procedures. While the U.S. government has evacuated some cruise ship passengers in recent weeks, repatriation flights should not be relied upon as an option for U.S. citizens under the potential risk of quarantine by local authorities.”

[h=1]Third Princess cruise ship kept at sea pending coronavirus testing[/h]
11 MIN AGO • SOURCE: ASSOCIATED PRESS
Thousands of passengers on a third Princess Cruises ship are being kept on board while crew members get tested for the Covid-19 coronavirus.
The Caribbean Princess, on a 10-day trip to the Panama Canal, was scheduled to dock in Grand Cayman today.

But the California-based cruise line said it will keep passengers and crew from disembarking, and instead will pick up test kits after notifying the CDC that two crew members had transferred from a Princess ship in California where a guest had tested positive for Covid-19.

These crew members being tested are currently "asymptomatic" and are remaining alone in their rooms "out of an abundance of caution" as the ship returns to Fort Lauderdale, the company statement said.

The ship is under a "no sail order" from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which will require it to remain at anchor off the coast of Florida until further notice, the statement said.

It was originally scheduled to return to Fort Lauderdale on Thursday.

The Regal Princess underwent a similar process, spending most of a day sailing up and down the Florida coast, before finally pulling into Port Everglades yesterday.

Its passengers finally disembarked after two crew members tested negative for the coronavirus.

Those crew members also lacked symptoms, but had come from the Grand Princess in California, where at least 21 people tested positive.

Also yesterday, the US State Department advised against travel on cruise ships, particularly for travelers with underlying health conditions

[h=1]Dr. Fauci: Vulnerable People Should Not Travel as Outbreak Worsens[/h] By Sandy Fitzgerald | Monday, 09 March 2020 01:21 PM

The elderly and people with underlying medical issues should suspend all their travel plans immediately and should definitely not get on a cruise ship as the coronavirus epidemic continues to spread, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Monday.
"People with the underlying conditions need to distance themselves from crowds, not travel, not get on long air flights and certainly not get on a cruise ship,"
Fauci said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "If you look at the people who wind up getting into serious difficulty and even dying, that's very heavily weighted toward individuals with underlying conditions, particularly the elderly."
Further, he said the most important thing for Amercians to do is continue to pay attention to the evolving situation.

"There are things that we know and there are things that we don't know," Fauci said. "We know that the most vulnerable people in our society right now are those people with the underlying conditions ... if you are within that category now you should start distancing yourself from social functions where there are a lot of people."

Cayman Islands cruise returns to the United States for cases of coronavirus
Monday, 09 March 2020 19:52

San Juan - The Caribbean Princess cruise ship decided on Monday not to let its passengers disembark on Grand Cayman Island, two of which, in serious condition, were evacuated and taken by air to Florida (USA), for fear of Covid 19.

Regarding the two "seriously ill" people it has not been detailed if they suffer from the disease, but the authorities indicated that they have been transferred to the United States via air ambulance.

In a statement, the director of the local Port Authority, Joseph Woods, warned that at the moment no one on board has symptoms of said coronavirus, but that the measure of not letting passengers down has been taken as a precaution.

The ship is now sailing back to Miami (Florida), according to local media.

"How there was uncertainty that someone on board could have been exposed to someone who had Covid 19, for the sake of caution, have decided not to remain in Grand Caiman," Woods added.

This decision "says a lot about the integrity of the cruise lines and the value they give to the relationship with the Cayman Islands. The close relationship makes sense at times like these circumstances in which instead of taking risks they decide to suspend the stay That is appreciated. We all promise that we will do our best to keep the islands free of Covid 19, "said Woods.

For his part, the Minister of Health, Dwayne Seymour, said that the best decision has been taken: not to remain in port and not to disembark passengers. "

Another similar case occurred in Jamaica just over a week ago when passengers were not allowed to get off the "Costa Luminosa" that yesterday docked in San Juan with an Italian woman, 68, suspected of suffering from Covid 19, on board.

She and her husband are isolated in a medical center in San Juan waiting for the tests, which are to be carried out in the USA. since in Puerto Rico they are not available.

This boat had left Fort Lauderdale (Florida) on February 24 and yesterday sailed from the Puerto Rican capital.

SINGAPORE - More than 600 passengers disembarked from the Costa Fortuna cruise ship in three hours, as of noon on Tuesday (March 10), and all have been found to be well.

In addition, passengers who have been to areas hard hit by the coronavirus in the past 14 days have also been individually screened by doctors, and are certified fit to travel, the Ministry of Health (MOH), Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said on Tuesday.

These passengers with recent travel history to affected areas are still staying on board the ship, and will later be taken directly to the airport for their flights.

The MOH, STB and MPA also said that Costa Fortuna had submitted its maritime declaration of health at 6am last Thursday, during which it declared that none of its passengers and crew were feverish or had symptoms of respiratory illness.

The penalty for a false declaration includes up to six months' jail.

The authorities added that all passengers and crew had been checked by the ship doctor, and were subjected to further thermal and visual screenings by MOH-licensed healthcare providers.

“Passengers have been bussed directly to the airport for their onward flights or to their hotels. Almost all foreign passengers will depart Singapore within the next two days,” said the MOH, STB and MPA. [h=4]On the passengers who had recent travel history to heavily affected areas such as northern Italy, the three agencies said: “These passengers had entered Singapore and boarded Costa Fortuna prior to the implementation of the travel ban and/or advisory on March 4, 2359 hrs.[/h]

[h=1]Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas returns to Dubai after passengers develop respiratory symptoms[/h] BYSHAUN EBELTHITEON MARCH 11, 2020 • ( LEAVE A COMMENT ) Abu Dhabi closed its cruise terminal at Port Zayed to cruise ships overnight, turning away Jewel of the Seas, which had departed Dubai yesterday.

Royal Caribbean appeared to have been granted an exemption from the UAE’s new restrictions on cruise ships docking in Dubai and Abu Dhabi when it departed Dubai on its penultimate week-long roundtrip Dubai cruise of the season.

Royal Caribbean had dropped Muscat in Oman as a port of call on the cruise, suggesting that the UAE’s Federal Transport Authority was allowing cruise shipping as long as it the vessels didn’t leave UAE waters...That exception was apparently revoked overnight when Jewel of the Seas turned back for Dubai at 10pm. During breakfast at 8am, the captain informed passengers that Abu Dhabi had denied entry and they would be returinbg to Dubai.

At the time of writing, Jewel of the Seas was moored once more at the Dubai Cruise Terminal, it’s not clear if the cruise has been cancelled, or if the cruise line is currently negotiating a new operating procedure with UAE authorities.

:magnify:There have been reports that two passengers on board have respiratory illnesses, however both have been diagnosed with non-Covid-19 symptoms, it’s not clear if this was the reason for Abu Dhabi’s refusal to allow the ship to dock...
