Comment: One of the reasons why Maharashtra has high case & fatality numbers is that the state does more testing. It seems that Telangana tests cases only from 2 cities in the state and nobody else. Other cases & fatalities will end up in the pile of "viral fever". This statistic is not compiled by the government but probably contains hundreds of thousands of flu, dengue, malaria, cholera etc. deaths that occur unrecorded every year in India. - Ro

Comment: From what I can see in this thread, we have tallied 28 deaths from Telangana and 17 from Andhra Pradesh for a total of 45. The official tolls for those states (to Sep 24) are 18 and 14 respectively. We have now seen several reports where Gandhi hospital is reporting tolls in the 30's and 40's. This does not necessarily imply that our FT figures are too low. Hyderabad serves as the capital city of both states. Most of the confirmed fatalities for both states occur at Gandhi hospital in Hyderabad. On the other hand, it has emerged this year that testing patients outside of Hyderabad is very limited and therefore it is very likely that a large number of cases & fatalities go unconfirmed. -Ro

Medical follow up majorly under reported

Amrita Didyala | TNN | Oct 15, 2017, 09:23 IST

HYDERABAD: While the number of swine flu and dengue-related deaths in the state have crossed previous year's record already , the state health authorities do not have a follow up of most of the cases and as a result the number of deaths remain largely under-reported.
...
"Since all the swine flu tests are referred to the Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) or to the new lab at the fever hospital, all positive cases are recorded. However, hospitals do not send a report of whether the patient was discharged or passed way ," said a senior official from state health department. Since, swine flu is a contagious virus, health officials can infact mandate hospitals to send the case reports. While health department authorities admit to that `deaths not being properly documented', they are mulling on making it compulsory.
