[h=1]Swine Flu Scare Spreads Among City Doctors Now, One Medico Infected[/h] HYDERABAD: The very people who are treating Swine Flu patients are a worried lot. A 30-year-old junior doctor at Osmania General Hospital, who was treating a H1N1 patient, himself developed the infection. And at Gandhi Hospital, some junior doctors apprehensive of the infection approached the duty medical officer (DMO). Swab samples of the junior doctors were sent for testing to validate their anxiety.
Such cases are not limited only to Hyderabad. Two staff nurses in Mahbubnagar were diagnosed with the infection on Sunday. Apart from them, a health official from the district who was treating the Swine Flu patients experienced symptoms of the flu. All the health personnel from the district were given Swine Flu treatment and their condition is learnt to be stable now.

NEW DELHI: Officials have said Telangana is the worst hit by swine flu in the country, with at least seven deaths reported this month.

According to reports on Tuesday, a girl in Hyderabad died of swine flu.

Since January, seven swine flu deaths have been reported in Hyderabad and more than 100 positive cases reported in Telangana in 2014-15.

The dreaded swine flu, which has affected over 142 people in Hyderabad in the past 20 days, is now giving sleepless nights to health department officials in Vizag district.

As many as 27 people have tested positive for the H1N1 virus in Telangana and are presently undergoing treatment at the Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad while 35 cases are under observation for the suspected virus.
K. Narasimhulu, coordinator for swine flu at the hospital, said they received four fresh cases of swine flu on Tuesday from various private hospitals.
?Till yesterday, we had 23 patients undergoing treatment in our hospital. We have received four more cases today. At the same time, 35 suspected cases including 10 children are under observation,? Dr. Narasimhulu said.

According to health department officials, a 40-year-old woman from Asif Nagar and a 35-year-old man from Shadnagar breathed their last at the Osmania Hospital and another woman died at the Gandhi Hospital. The last of the victims was shifted from a private hospital to the Gandhi Hospital in a critical condition at the last minute. The 40-year-old was admitted to the Osmania hospital on January 19.
However, what has set the alarm bells ringing was the sheer number of people who tested positive on Tuesday. The total number of cases, including the 50 new ones, detected so far this month has risen to 221. But no senior official was willing to confirm the new cases on record. Nonetheless, off the record, one senior official put the figure at 50 while another pegged it at 48. Sources said two junior doctors at the Gandhi Hospital had tested positive for the virus a couple of days back though the authorities denied the same. One more medico is being treated for swine flu at the Osmania Hospital. Superintendent of Gandhi Hospital Dr P Dhairyawan, meanwhile, said they had opened a bigger ward for swine flu patients. Earlier, authorities announced that isolation wards would be opened at the fever and chest hospitals.
Suresh Chanda, principal secretary, Health and Family Welfare, said they would open new wards depending on the requirement. Dr K Shankar, Superintendent of Fever hospital, said they had sent estimates for constructing an isolation ward and were waiting for sanction of funds.

Swine Flu: 19 Die in Telangana, State Seeks Centre's Help

HYDERABAD: With 19 people succumbing to swine flu in Telangana so far this year, the state government today sought Centre's help and announced several measures to check the spread of the deadly virus.


Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J P Nadda in the morning and requested them to send a team of officials to the state, among other things.

Rao reviewed the situation with government doctors, officials, and also private hospital managements and announced that a team of officials would monitor the situation in Hyderabad, and an IAS officer would act as nodal officer for every district.

Rao saidreporters that 19 people had died due to the swine flu virus infection so far in the state and another 20-30 people are undergoing treatment.

[h=1]55-yr-old Woman Dies of H1N1, 13 More Persons Test Positive[/h] HYDERABAD: A 55-year-old woman from Tolichowki died of swine flu on Wednesday morning and 13 more tested positive for the infection. The woman was shifted from a private hospital to Gandhi Hospital in a critical condition and doctors at the hospital suspected that she was suffering from hypertension and a heart ailment.
Days after a junior doctor at Osmania General Hospital getting infected with the flu while treating a patient, it has come to light that a house surgeon at the hospital also tested positive for H1N1 virus on Tuesday. A medical student from Osmania Medical College, was also suspected to be infected and his swab samples were sent for test, a source said. A junior doctor of Osmania Hospital alleged that the protective masks were only provided to junior doctors and health staff working at Acute Medical Care unit and casualty department and not to those who are working in wards. ?As the infection spreads through droplets, everybody should be provided with the masks,? he said.

SWINE FLU CLAIMS TWO LIVES IN HYDERABAD

Swine flu has claimed two more lives in Hyderabad while a central health team arrived Thursday to take stock of the situation, an official said.

Two women, aged 55 and 56, died at two government-run hospitals here late Wednesday, taking the toll to 21. Officials said a total of 247 swine flu cases were reported so far in the state.

Five people were discharged from Gandhi Hospital here but two others were tested positive. As many as 35 swine flu patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital while blood samples of 20 others were sent to Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) for H1N1 test.

Migrant workers taking H1N1 back to interior villages?

MAHBUBNAGAR: Panic has gripped the backward district of Mahbubnagar after a spurt in swine flu cases since the New Year Day. What's worrying people more is the returning stream of migrant labourers from big cities like Hyderabad to their native villages in the district.

As many as 14 positive cases of swine flu and two deaths have been reported in the last 21 days in the district. Till last week, only Mahbubnagar town had reported the presence of the deadly virus, but in the last five days reports are coming in increasingly from small towns and villages. A man died due to swine flu in Shadnagar town recently.

Sambasiva Rao by transferring him for poor handling of swine flu cases in Telangana and visited the mental and chest hospitals at Erragadda here on Thursday evening for first-hand information about the dreaded disease.
The Director of Family Welfare Jyothi Buddha Prakash was given additional charge of the post held by Dr. Sambasiva Rao, who will go back to his parent department.
In the morning, the Chief Minister discussed the spread of swine flu with health officials when the decision to transfer Dr. Sambasiva Rao was taken. Mr. Rao asked them to keep the government hospitals hygienic and clean. Later in the evening, he inspected facilities at the mental and chest hospitals.

[h=1]6-year-old boy dies due to suspected H1N1 flu virus in Vizag[/h] Visakhapatnam: A six-year-old boy died allegedly due to pneumonia at King George Hospital in Vizag on Friday morning, however he may have been the victim of H1N1 virus, more commonly known as swine flu. Swine flu toll 22 in Telangana; three doctors test positive

The swine flu toll in Telangana rose to 22 on Friday with the death of a woman patient due to complications at a corporate hospital in Hyderabad.

The intensity of swine flu is such that three senior doctors tested positive on Friday. Two doctors, a 25-year-old female and another 30-year-old male doctor, have tested positive at Osmania General Hospital. A 35-year-old male doctor at Apollo Hospitals has also tested positive for swine flu.

Meanwhile, Officer on Special Duty of Medical and Health Minister T. Rajaiah was sent back as also a doctor in a government hospital at Suryapet even as allegations of corruption in medical and health department mounted.

One dies of swine flu at KGH

One Abhiram (10) on Friday died of Swine Flu at KGH and this is the first death reported in the State (comment: second death reported fro AP this year, assuming this is the same case as reported in #33 above - Ro). The patient was brought from a private hospital on Thursday night with the symptoms of swine flu and heart problems.

The State Government has set up swine flu screening centres and isolation wards at all district and areas hospitals in the State to control the spread of the decease.

Aruna Kumari, Director of Public Health and family Welfare, said that so far 19 samples have been screened in the State for swine flu and 12 of them have emerged positive. One swine flu death occurred in Prakasam district and added that the condition is under control.

[h=1]12 More Test Positive for Swine Flu, City on High Alert[/h] HYDERABAD:Twelve of 32 more samples tested positive for swine flu on Saturday and unconfirmed reports said three more junior doctors at Osmania General Hospital are suspected to have been infected with the flu. No deaths were, however, reported.
It is learnt that a new testing kit was used for testing H1N1 samples and the kit delayed giving results.
NIMS director and state?s official spokesperson for swine flu Dr L Narendranath said 311 people have tested positive for H1N1 out of 925 suspected cases so far in January.
The idea of spending two-day-long holiday with friends and family members at functions might sound as much needed break from daily drudgery. But it is better to avoid visiting crowded places.

Hyderabad: Three deaths have been recorded in Telangana on January 25 taking the death toll to 25. (20 from January - Ro) Around fifty-two cases tested positive on Sunday taking the total number of cases in the month of January to 388.

Five junior doctors from OGH have also tested positive. The three people who succumbed to H1N1 are a 45-year-old woman from Ramanthapur, and two men from from Waranagal and Old Bowenpally, both ageing around 50 years.

Three more persons succumbed to complications arising out of swine flu in Hyderabad, taking the overall death toll in Telangana to 25 in January.

While health officials have decided to delay announcement of fatalities, it is reliably learnt that three persons, 45-year-old female from Ramanthapur, 50-year-old male from Old Bowenpally and another male of the same age from Warangal have died in various private hospitals in Hyderabad. It is learnt that the swine flu related deaths have occurred between January 21 and 23. Between Saturday and Sunday, a total of 89 fresh cases of swine flu have tested positive in Hyderabad. With this, the overall number of swine flu patients in January has risen to 388.

Suspected swine flu death in Prakasam

A 45-year-old man, who was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences with symptoms of swine flu, died while being shifted to the Guntur Medical College Hospital on Sunday. He is the second person to have died from symptoms of swine flu in Prakasam district this month.
A seven-year-old girl with symptoms of swine flu was admitted RIMS today, taking the number of persons presently undergoing treatment at the swine flu isolation ward to three. A 72-year-old woman was also undergoing treatment for suspected swine flu at a corporate hospital here, according to District Medical and Health Officer J. Yasmin.
Doctors at the RIMS referred the 45-year-old man from Alavalapadu in J. Pangalur mandal to Guntur for better treatment as he was also suffering from tuberculosis and HIV

The authorities here said that a woman (36) and a man (54) had succumbed to the swine flu. The deceased had received treatment at Gandhi Hospital, Hyderabad for the past two days. With these two deaths, the overall fatality roll in Telangana has touched 28 in just two months i.e. 2014 December and January.
