Taiwan sees 338 cases of dengue fever in one week

TAIPEI -- The number of dengue fever cases had increased by 338 in the week ending Sept. 6, setting a single-week high for infections of the mosquito-borne disease, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Thursday.

Taiwan has reported 1,694 dengue fever cases this year, including 1,555 indigenous cases and 139 imported ones, the CDC said.

About 309 cases were seen during the same period of last year, according to the CDC.

TAIPEI--Two districts in Taipei sprayed pesticides in their neighborhoods on Friday after the city confirmed its first dengue fever case of the year the previous day, environmental officials said...

...According to the Health Ministry, Taiwan had recorded 2,235 dengue fever cases this year as of Sept. 18, with 2,083 of them indigenous cases.

Most of the patients have been residents of Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan, where hot and humid weather has led to over 2,000 cases, it said...

Taipei, Sept. 23 (CNA) The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Tuesday that 511 new cases of indigenous dengue fever were reported last week, the highest number in a single week.

Liu Ting-ping, director of the CDC's Epidemic Information Center, said 495 of the new indigenous dengue cases were reported in Kaohsiung, while the others were in Pingtung and Changhua counties, and Tainan, Hsinchu, Changhua and Taipei cities.

As of Sept. 22, she said, 2,589 dengue cases had been reported in Taiwan this year -- 160 imported and 2,429 indigenous...
