A case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) was confirmed at a broiler farm in Manseok-dong, Iksan-si, Jeollabuk-do.
This confirmed case marks the third in North Jeolla Province this winter and the 32nd nationwide. Quarantine authorities are making every effort to contain the spread, issuing immediate culling orders and movement restrictions.
Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Kwan-young) announced on the 5th that the H5 antigen detected at the farm in question was finally confirmed as highly pathogenic (H5N1) through a detailed examination.
Since September 12th of last year, a total of 32 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported nationwide. Nine cases have occurred in Gyeonggi Province, eight in North Chungcheong Province, six in South Jeolla Province, five in South Chungcheong Province, and three more in North Jeolla Province, demonstrating the unabated nationwide spread.
Immediately after confirming the antigen, quarantine authorities dispatched an emergency response team to the site and completely restricted access to the farm.
