Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Case in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province… “AI Risk Advisory Issued in Preparation for Cold Wave”
Input 2025.12.02 (19:25)
Revised 2025.12.02 (19:26)
Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza has broken out at a farm raising approximately 130,000 laying hens in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced today (the 2nd) that after receiving reports of laying hens dying at a farm in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, a thorough examination confirmed the case to be highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1).
This is the seventh case of highly pathogenic avian influenza confirmed at a poultry farm this winter, and the third at a laying hen farm.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced that it is conducting epidemiological investigations of approximately 20 farms and facilities where people or vehicles visited the farm, as well as conducting detailed inspections of approximately 20 poultry farms within a 10km radius.
Furthermore, with temperatures expected to drop starting today and snow expected on the 4th, a "Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Risk Alert for Heavy Snow and Cold Waves" has been issued for poultry farms nationwide until the 12th, urging them to adhere to quarantine guidelines, including restricting access to farms and vehicles and preventing freezing of facilities.
Furthermore, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced that it will appoint dedicated officers to conduct weekly inspections at 12 intensive laying hen farms nationwide until the 17th.
Vehicles entering and exiting large laying hen farms with over 100,000 hens will be restricted to only one farm per day, and egg transport vehicles will be prohibited from entering the farms, implementing "epidemiological minimization measures."
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters emphasized the need for thorough quarantine management at the farm level, as December and January are the peak months for highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks.
