The Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize confirmed that South Africa has 9 420 coronavirus cases, with the Western Cape province being the biggest contributor to these numbers.
He warned those living in cities across the country that they may have to brace themselves for stricter restrictions for longer, as all metros were currently coronavirus hotspots.
There would be no "once-size-fits-all" approach to these lockdown restrictions. Instead, every area would be assessed in terms of their specific risk profiles, Mkhize said.

8 new Covid-19 deaths, as infections breach 10 000 mark
The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in South Africa is 10 015, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced on Sunday night.
"Regrettably, we report 8 more Covid-19 related deaths: 3 from Western Cape, 1 from Eastern Cape, and 4 from Gauteng. This brings the total national deaths to 194," he said in a statement.
A total of 341 336 tests have been conducted to date with 17 257 tests done relative to the last report. This is a record high for a 24 hour cycle of testing, the department said.
The number of recoveries was 4 173 as at 9 May 2020.

Lockdown has worked, says President Ramaphosa
Most of the country will be on Lockdown Level 3 by the end of May, President Cyril Ramaphosa, said in an address to the nation tonight.
“The best current estimate is that, without the lockdown and the other measures we have taken, at least 80 000 South Africans could have been infected by now. And the death toll could have been at least 8 times higher than it is. As it stands, there are 219 people in South Africa who have succumbed to this disease," President Ramaphosa said.
“By contrast, at a similar stage in the progression of the disease, the United States had recorded over 22 000 deaths and the United Kingdom over 19 000 deaths. We should never forget that the purpose of the lockdown was to delay the spread of the virus and prevent a huge surge of infections. So far, we have been successful in the manner we as South Africans have responded and dealt with this virus.
“The percentage of cases identified out of all the tests conducted – what is known as the positivity rate – has remained low and stable. The level of confirmed infections in South Africa is around 181 people per million of the population. By contrast, countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and Singapore have between 2 400 and 4 600 coronavirus cases per million people.
“It is significant that out of the 12 074 confirmed cases in South Africa, we have recorded 4 745 recoveries. By delaying the spread of the disease, we have been able to strengthen the capacity of our health system and to put in place wide-ranging public health programmes to better manage the inevitable increase in infections.
“We now have nearly 25 000 additional beds available for quarantine. We have been able to source and produce substantial quantities of personal protective equipment for health workers, vital medical equipment and other supplies.

SA has first jump of more than 1 000 confirmed cases in a day as Covid-19 total now reaches 15 515
As of Sunday, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in South Africa was 15 515, with 1 160 new cases identified in the last 24-hour cycle of testing, according to Health Minister Zweli Mkhize.
“We remain concerned about the developments in the Western Cape, with the total cumulative cases now comprising almost 60% of the national cumulative cases and the new cases from Western Cape comprising 76% of the new cases from the past 24-hour cycle,” said the minister.
460 873 tests had been conducted with 21 314 done in the last 24-hour cycle.
Another three deaths brought the total of Covid-19-related deaths to 264.
