Coronavirus: First case confirmed in Scotland

The first case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Scotland after a patient was diagnosed having recently travelled from Italy, the government has said.

The patient, from the Tayside area, tested positive and is receiving treatment in isolation in hospital.

Details of people they have been in contact with since returning to the UK are being gathered...

Public have vital role to play in helping contain any outbreak.

Chief Medical Officer for Scotland Dr Catherine Calderwood has confirmed a further three patients in Scotland have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to six.

The patients are currently clinically well and are receiving appropriate clinical care.

The patients are from the Forth Valley, Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Grampian areas. All three new cases are contacts of known cases...

Number of Scottish coronavirus cases rises to 11

Five new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Scotland, bringing the total to 11.

The Scottish government said two of the new Covid-19 cases were in Fife, with one each in the Grampian, Forth Valley and Lothian health board areas.

The first Scottish case of the virus was confirmed in Tayside on Sunday.

The country's chief medical officer has previously warned that there could be a "rapid rise" in the number of cases in the coming days.

Dr Catherine Calderwood also said Scotland remained "very much" in the containment phase of its response to the outbreak, and urged people to continue to follow basic hygiene advice and - crucially - wash their hands for 20 seconds...

The Scottish Government confirmed the latest numbers this afternoon - following the first confirmed death in Scotland from the deadly bug...
