RIYADH: Saudi Arabia announced on Monday the first coronavirus case in the Kingdom, identified in Saudi citizen traveling from Iran to the country through Bahrain, Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

According to the report, the person did not disclose to Saudi authorities that they had visited Iran before Bahrain.

The Kingdom's health ministry said it sent an infection control team immediately to check on the citizen, and to take a sample for laboratory examination, as part of its precautionary measures...

The lockdown on Qatif on Sunday, an eastern area that is home to around 500,000 people, is the first action of its kind across the Gulf region, which has confirmed more than 230 coronavirus cases – most of them people returning from religious pilgrimages to Shia-majority Iran.

Given the kingdom’s 11 recorded cases of the new coronavirus are from Qatif, “it has been decided to temporarily suspend entry and exit” from the area, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Just a comment. I found Saudi Arabia to be unreliable in their MERS case totals. Apparently they do not test asymptomatic people as evidenced by a very low case count for children.

RIYADH — The Ministry of Health reported on Friday 17 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), raising the total number of cases in Saudi Arabia to 62.

The ministry said in a statement that the first case of a citizen who was in contact with a previously reported case of infection. He is quarantined in a health facility in Riyadh.

The second case is of an expatriate coming from Portugal via Turkey. He is quarantined in a health facility in Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia detected 24 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, including a case of a female citizen who recently returned from France and another who arrived from Italy, according to the Kingdom’s health ministry.

The ministry said that the first case of a female citizen returning from France has been isolated in a health facility in the city of Riyadh, while the second case of a citizen arriving from Italy is currently in isolation in a health facility in al-Qatif city.


The ministry added that there were seven cases of quarantined citizens in the eastern region, who contracted the coronavirus after having come into physical contact with previously announced cases.

Out of the 24 cases announced on Friday, 14 are of Egyptian nationality. One of the cases is a resident of Bangladeshi nationality currently in quarantine in Mecca city.

Among the first three cases is a citizen who came in contact with a previous case, another Saudi citizen coming from Germany and a Jordanian resident coming from the United Kingdom. All the three cases are quarantined in a Jeddah health facility.

The total number of cases infected with the novel coronavirus in the Kingdom reached 344.

Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) announced monitoring and registering of 70 new cases of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

In a statement made in Riyadh, the ministry stated that among the new infections (11) were cases coming from: Morocco, India, Jordan, the Philippines, Britain, the Emirates and Switzerland.

The 11 cases were isolated directly from airports to hospitality, in quarantine (sanitary isolation), proven effective in dealing with the transmission of infection, adding that there is a case of a health practice, in Riyadh...
