Gurmeet Singh, 43, a resident of Chandigarh, died of swine flu today at a private hospital in Mohali, state's nodal officer Dr Deepak Bhatia said.

Four persons have lost their lives due to the deadly infection in the state.

Out of the total 39 suspected cases, six tested positive and are being treated at various hospitals, he said.

Meanwhile, 17 people were tested positive for swine flu in Rajasthan, taking the total number of H1N1 positive cases in the state to 145 since April.

"The positive cases were reported from Jaipur, Alwar, Udaipur, Karauli, Dausa and Chittorgarh. The patients are being treated," OP Gupta, director (public health), state medical and health department, said.

Eleven people have so far succumbed to the viral infection since April, he said.

JAIPUR: The swine flu, on Friday, claimed one more person in the state, even as 17 others tested positive. The deceased, a four-month pregnant woman, was a resident of Chittorgarh.

According to Dr OP Gupta, director (health), eight were tested positive in Jaipur, three in Alwar, two in Udaipur and one each in Karauli, Dausa and Chittorgarh districts. JAIPUR: Swine flu casualties continue to rise in Rajasthan as two more deaths were reported from Kota on Wednesday. Also, 24 new cases of the disease were also confirmed during the day. With this, total number of swine flu patients recorded in the state since April 2010 has reached 275.

JAIPUR: Swine flu claimed three more lives in the state on Thursday. Deaths were reported from Jaipur, Pali and Udaipur. Twenty-seven fresh cases were also reported today. Ten new cases were reported from Jaipur, nine from Kota, four from Udaipur, two from Jodhpur and one each from Bharatpur and Chittorgarh.

"The state has recorded 302 swine flu cases and 1,075 samples were tested since April. Already 21 deaths were reported this season," said Dr O P Gupta, director, public health.

Health department has initiated massive screening drives and dedicated ICU services at district hospitals. However, the casualties are continuously being reported for the past week. Among the deceased reported from the state on Thursday was a 60-year-old male from Jaipur, while another 30-year-old man died in Udaipur. The deceased from Pali is informed to be a pregnant lady.

The patient from Jaipur was admitted at a hospital on August 28. The patient in Udaipur was undergoing treatment at M B Hospital since August 30. His condition had deteriorated on Tuesday after which he was put on ventilator.

The health department has deployed rapid action teams at all the district levels and trained staff for handling swine flu cases. The late detection of the cases is being sighted as a cause of casualties. The department screening drives have tested many people for the infection at early stage. However, the infection is expected to increase with monsoon.

The department has asked the chief medical and health officers to coordinate with district administration and education department to ensure due awareness activities at public places and schools. Helpline has also been established for public awareness and guidance on swine flu treatment.
