MANILA, Philippines ? The number of dengue cases nationwide increased to 61,406 from Jan. 1 to April 6, according to the Department of Health.

The DOH said the figures are more than double than those recorded during the same period last year.

At least 1,232 dengue cases were recorded from March 31 to April 6 alone...

COTABATO CITY, Philippines ? There have been 17 reported deaths due to dengue in Region 12 between January and April this year, the Department of Health regional office said.

According to Department of Health-12, there were 4,631 cases of dengue in that period.

The provinces of North Cotabato and South Cotabato lost seven residents each to dengue fever while Sarangani had three fatalities in the past four months...

ROXAS CITY, Capiz ? Six persons in Capiz succumbed to dengue as the number of victims escalates.

Based on the data from the Department of Health (DOH)-Capiz, 864 dengue cases were recorded in the province from January 1 to May 4, 2019. The number is 602 percent higher to 123 cases in the same period last year.

Also, six persons died of the infection. The fatalities are from the towns of Pontevedra, Dao, Ivisan, and Pres. Roxas.

Meanwhile, the DOH renewed its call to the public to prevent dengue by implementing the enhanced 4-S strategy in their households...

BACOLOD City ? The City Health Office (CHO) of Bacolod has recorded a total of 427 dengue cases in the city from January to May 18, 2019.

Dr. Grace Tan, CHO Environment and Sanitation Division head, said the number of cases this year increased by 78 percent compared to the same period last year with 240 cases only.

CHO records also indicated that Barangay Estefania has the most number of dengue cases followed by Taculing, Pahanocoy, Tangub, Handumanan, Mansilingan, Granada, Mandalagan, Alijis, and Singcang-Airport...

COTABATO CITY -- The Department of Health (DOH) 12 (Soccsksargen) has reported that 26 persons have died of dengue fever from January 1 to May 18.

Jenny Panizales, DOH-12 focal person for dengue and measles prevention program, said they have been urging the public to help address the rising incidence of dengue, a highly preventable disease.

Panizales said DOH-12?s Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) listed a total of 5,986 dengue cases as of May 18, marking a 164-percent increase compared with the same period last year.

North Cotabato has listed the most number of dengue cases with 2,215, compared with only 640 during the same period last year. It also has the highest number of fatalities at 11, followed by South Cotabato with eight. South Cotabato has recorded 1,752 dengue patients, compared with only 795 in 2018. Sultan Kudarat followed with 703 cases, up from 164 cases in the same period last year. Sarangani province has logged 618 cases compared with 253 in the same period last year; Gen. Santos City, with 425 (up from 264 last year); and Cotabato City, with 273 (up from 152 last year).

Panizales said three deaths were reported each in Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani, and one in Cotabato City...

MANILA, Philippines ? The Department of Health (DOH) is projecting over 200,000 dengue cases this year, based on the number of infections being reported every month.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the country might see around 240,000 dengue cases before the year ends ?if nothing will be done? to curb the increase.

?If you look at the number and you do some computations, you get around 240,000. Dengue is a personal and community concern, and we can still prevent this from happening if we all do our part,? Duque said.

Based on latest dengue surveillance report from the DOH?s Epidemiology Bureau, there were 1,121 dengue cases recorded from May 1 to 11.

The figure brought to 74,273 the total number of cases since Jan. 1. Of this, 98 cases or 27 percent belonged to the 5 to 9 age bracket...

SAN JOSE, Antique ? The number of dengue deaths in the province so far this year rose to two, with a 6-year-old girl being the latest fatality.

The girl was from Barangay Esperanza, Culasi, Antique. She was initially admitted to the Culasi District Hospital but was later transferred to the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital on May 29...From Jan. 1 to June 1, Antique recorded 272 cases of dengue. Dengue cases up 253% in Negros Oriental

DUMAGUETE CITY -- The total number of dengue cases in Negros Oriental from January 1st to June 15 this year rose by more than 200 percent compared to the same period of last year, with cases still expected to rise in the coming months.

As of latest count from the Department of Health (DOH)-Negros Oriental, a total of 1,469 cases with five deaths have been reported from different parts of the province, said Dr. Socrates Villamor, DOH provincial chief, during the "Kapihan sa PIA" forum Tuesday afternoon in nearby Sibulan town.

The figure is higher by 253 percent compared to the 416 cases and five deaths recorded during the same period last year, he said.

Dumaguete City, the provincial capital, tops the list of the 10 towns and cities with the highest number of dengue cases at 256 and one death...

Iloilo village declares state of calamity due to dengue

ILOILO CITY ? The island village of San Fernando in Carles, a northern town in Iloilo province, has been placed under a state of calamity due to the rise of dengue cases.

Since its monitoring from May 14, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Carles said San Fernando recorded 65 dengue cases.

?A day after the elections, there were two children admitted in the hospital because of dengue fever. Since then, the cases continued (rising),? Julieto Manggasang, MDRRM officer said in a phone interview Saturday.

ILOILO CITY ? A dengue outbreak was declared in Iloilo province as the number of cases involving the mosquito-borne disease continued to rise.

Iloilo Gov. Arthur ?Toto? Defensor Jr. signed Executive Order No. 2019-016 Friday afternoon in an attempt to lower the spread of dengue in 42 towns and the component city of Passi.

?We declared an outbreak because we want to recognize that there is a problem. Based on historical data, the cases are high,? Defensor emphasized.

Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Qui?on, assistant chief of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO), disclosed there was a 777-percent spike of dengue cases for the first half of the year.

IPHO recorded 4,306 dengue cases, including 20 deaths from January 1 to June 29, 2019. In comparison, there were only 491 cases for the same period last year.

The town of Pototan had the most number of cases with 428 including three deaths. It is followed by Passi City with 356 cases and a fatality...

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela?At least 22 deaths have been recorded as the number of suspected dengue cases surges by 177 percent in Cagayan Valley from January to June this year, prompting massive information and cleanup drives throughout the region.

Doctor Rio Magpantay, Cagayan Valley regional health director, said the number of dengue cases surges from 2,254 last year to 6,233 in the same period this year based on records from the DOH-Regional Epidemiological Surveillance Unit.

Out of the 22 deaths reported, 17 were probable and five were suspected cases, Magpantay added.

Cagayan ?the hub of regional-based hospitals such as Cagayan Valley Medical Center ?has registered 2,570 cases, Isabela with 2,527, Quirino 638, and Nueva Vizcaya 492.

Batanes, earlier declared a dengue-free province, has six reported cases...

At least 63 fatalities were recorded from dengue in Cagayan Valley, Bicol and Zamboanga Peninsula in the first six months of the year and cases kept on rising, prompting health officials to raise the full alert on the mosquito-borne disease.

In Cagayan Valley and Bicol regions, at least 44 deaths each were recorded in the last six months while 19 others were reported in Zamboanga.

The provincial health office (PHO) in Albay province has raised the ?code green? alert as dengue cases continued to rise. Officials with the Department of Health in the Eastern Visayas (Region 8), which encompasses Samar, Leyte and Biliran, are reporting an 86 percent increase in dengue fever compared to the same period in 2018.

From January 1 to July 11 this year, 4,809 confirmed cases, including 19 fatalities have been recorded. 2,590 cases were reported last year at this time.

DOH declares dengue outbreak in Western Visayas

ILOILO CITY ? The Department of Health-Center for Health Development in Region 6 (DOH-CHD 6) with the concurrence of Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III, on Monday declared a dengue outbreak in Western Visayas, except for Negros Occidental, which will be placed on alert status.

In a video conference at the DOH-CHD 6 office here, the agency's head, Regional Director Marlyn Convocar, received a go signal from Duque after he was apprised of the region?s dengue situation.

DOH data showed that Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, and Guimaras already declared an outbreak while Antique has expanded the scope of the declaration of its state of calamity to ill-effects of dengue from just the El Ni?o phenomenon.

In giving his approval, Duque also commended DOH-6 and local officials for their three timely interventions that include the declaration of the epidemic, management of cases in hospitals and for rural health units to serve as hydration centers or stations.

DOH regional data showed that from January to July 6, 2019, Western Visayas had 15,746 cases and 87 deaths. The average increase was computed at 236 percent when compared with 4,684 and 40 deaths for the same period last year.

Among four provinces in Western Visayas, Guimaras recorded the highest increase at 1,030 percent while the highest case fatality rate (CFR) is in Aklan, Negros Occidental and Bacolod City at 0.7 percent. CFR is computed as total number of death over the total number of cases.

National data covering the January 1 to June 29, 2019 period showed Western Visayas as having the most number of cases among 17 regions with 13, 164 cases and 60 deaths; followed by Region 4?A with 11,474 and 46 deaths; Region 7 with 9,199 cases and 60 deaths and Region 12 with 9,107 cases and 41 deaths...

ZAMBOANGA CITY ? The Department of Health (DOH) has called on local government units (LGUs) to take an active role in the campaign against dengue in their respective localities.

Dr. Emilia Monicimpo, DOH-Region 9 director, made the call as she expressed alarm over the increasing number of dengue cases in the region.

Monicimpo said they have recorded 8,076 cases of dengue as of July 6 this year, or 285 percent higher than the 2,067 cases registered in the same period last year.

Data gathered by the DOH regional office showed that Zamboanga City registered 2,662 cases of dengue, the highest compared with other areas in the region.

Zamboanga Sibugay ranked second with 2,566 cases; Zamboanga del Sur, 1,549 cases; Zamboanga del Norte, 1,035; and Isabela City, Basilan, with 264 cases.

So far, the DOH regional office has recorded 48 deaths as of July 6 in the entire region with ?most of the deaths were from Zamboanga City.?...

MANILA, Philippines - Health authorities in the Philippines have declared a "national dengue alert" after a spike in cases of the viral disease which has left more than 450 people dead since January.

Around 100,000 dengue cases were reported across the Philippines in the first six months of 2019, an increase of 85% on the same period last year.

A total of 456 people have died of dengue in the Philippines in the first half of this year, which was a 39% increase on the same period last year. It is the first time the authorities have called a national alert because of dengue.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said "the objective is very clear ? we want to raise awareness among the public and more importantly in communities where signs of early dengue increase are evident."

Cases of the illness are 85 percent higher than at the same time last year, the health authorities warned. This year, 106,630 people have contracted dengue compared to 57,564 in 2018.

Duque said the health department had issued a "code blue" in response to the huge increase.

MANILA, Philippines ? The Department of Health (DOH) reported yesterday that 50 people have died due to dengue while over 13,000 others were afflicted with the potentially deadly viral disease in the Cavite-Laguna- Batangas-Rizal-Quezon (Calabarzon) area.

According to DOH Calabarzon regional director Eduardo Janairo, a total of 13,032 dengue cases including 50 deaths were recorded from January to July 13 in the region.

Janairo said the figure was 26 percent higher than the 10,350 dengue cases reported during the same period last year...

MANILA?The Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday the dengue virus serotype 3 (DENV-3) is to blame for the dengue cases in the Philippines for the last 3 years.

Dr. Chito Avelino, officer-in-charge of DOH's epidemiology bureau, said there are 4 types of dengue, but DENV-3 is the dominant strain of the mosquito-borne disease affecting the country.

DENV-3 and dengue virus serotype 4 (DENV-4) carry the usual symptoms, such as high fever, headache, muscle pains, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and rash...
