ILOILO CITY ? The Iloilo provincial board on Tuesday placed the province under a state calamity due to continuing increase of dengue cases.

An outbreak has also been declared in Iloilo City.

Dengue cases in the province reached 6,806, including 23 fatalities from January to July 13 this year. This is more than 10 times the 543 cases recorded from January to July 6, 2018, according to authorities.

With this, the provincial board also approved the release of P26.5 million for the purchase of medicines, laboratory supplies, insecticides, and fogging equipment.

On Monday, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Tre?as declared a dengue outbreak in the city where 867 dengue cases, including five fatalities, have been recorded as of July 13...

The Philippines has issued a national alert due to a severe outbreak of dengue fever, a mosquito-transmitted tropical disease that has led to 115,000 infections and nearly 500 deaths, most of them children, in the aftermath of a recent controversy surrounding the adverse effects of a vaccine that combats the virus.

According to the latest figures released by the Department of Health, infections have grown 85 percent in the last year, with 115,986 cases and 491 deaths ? 40 percent higher than last year ? reported between Jan. 1 and July 6.

The situation is reaching epidemic proportions in four central regions of the country ? Calabarzon, Western Visayas, Central Visayas and Northern Mindanao ? and there is an imminent threat of the disease spreading across the entire country as the rainy season approaches after a severe drought afflicting the Southeast Asian archipelago in recent months.

Antique records more than 1K dengue cases, 7 deaths

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) is calling on the public to intensify cleanup drives as dengue cases in Antique surged to 1,117 including seven deaths in a week.

On the 29th morbidity week covering the July 14-20 period, IPHO recorded an additional 191 cases bringing the total cases to 1,117, an increase of 126 percent when compared to the 494 cases recorded in the same period last year.

“Our latest death reported is that of a seven-year-old female from Sebaste town proper last July 10,” said IPHO Information Officer Irene Dulduco in an interview Friday.

The other deaths came from Culasi town with five, and San Jose de Buenavista with one.

She said that they are campaigning for households to get rid of mosquito-breeding places such as stagnant water and even flower vases...

SoCot residents warned vs. 4 dengue strains

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- South Cotabato's Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) warned residents on Friday about the presence of four strains or serotypes of the deadly dengue fever in the province.

Dr. Alah Baby Vingno, IPHO assistant chief, said they have recorded infections by all four dengue serotypes in the province based on cases confirmed by the Department of Health (DOH).

The DOH initially found cases involving the four dengue strains in the area during an outbreak in 2016.

The provincial government declared a state of calamity late last week due to the rising cases of dengue, which was already above the epidemic threshold ? meaning that it has reached the outbreak level last May.

Vingno said their monitoring showed that most of the current dengue cases in the province?s 10 towns and lone city are under serotype 1.

?But since all four strains are already here, there is a possibility that a person will be infected with dengue four times,? she said in an interview with reporters.

Vingno said the province lacks the equipment that will determine the strain of the dengue virus, and samples are sent to the DOH in Manila for the confirmatory tests.

As of July 22, the reported dengue cases in the province already reached a total of 3,664, with 21 deaths.

Koronadal City posted the most number of cases with 703, followed by Surallah (478); Tantangan (468), Banga (391), Tupi (347), Norala (307), Polomolok (276), Tampakan (219), Tboli (192), Sto. Ni?o (174), and Lake Sebu (109)...

Dengue cases keep surging across PH

Dengue cases across the country continue to increase as the Department of Health (DOH) recorded more than 8,000 new cases in a span of a week.

The latest monitoring of the DOH Epidemiology Bureau showed 8,295 new dengue cases from July 7 to July 13. The figure is 53 percent higher compared to the 5,423 cases recorded during the same period last year.

More than 130,000 dengue cases, with 561 deaths, had been reported in the country from Jan. 1 to July 13. Cases of the mosquito-borne disease have nearly doubled this year, as only 67,690 cases and 367 deaths were recorded in 2018.

Dengue claims 37 lives, affects 3,631 in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY: In the span of seven months, dengue, the mosquito-borne disease has claimed 37 lives and afflicted 3,631 persons in in Bicol Region.

Based on the latest record of the Department of Health (DoH) in Bicol, dengue prevalence has reached an alarming situation, with a total of 3,631 cases and 37 deaths from January 1 to July 27 this year, as compared to 1,582 cases and 17 deaths in the same period of 2018.

Dr. Ernie Vera, DoH regional director said the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) figure indicates a 134-percent increase from last year.

Among the six provinces of Bicol, Camarines Sur had the highest number of cases with 1,433, followed by Albay with 679, Sorsogon with 653, Catanduanes with 485, Masbate with 242, Camarines Norte with 135, and four cases in other provinces.

Vera said within the first two weeks of this month alone they recorded a 27-percent surge in dengue cases or from 2,660 to the current 3,631 cases.

Sixty-eight villages from five provinces of Bicol were declared dengue hot spot areas. These provinces are Camarines Sur with 30 villages followed by Sorsogon with 14; Albay, 12; Catanduanes, 7; and Masbate, 5...

Philippines dengue: Negros Occidental cases up 43 percent, Eastern Samar under state of calamity

Health officials in the province are reporting a 43 percent increase in dengue fever cases through July 20 this year. To date, 4,230 cases have been reported, compared to 2,948 during the same period in 2018.

Kabankalan City has seen the most cases with 596.

Province-wide, 27 deaths have been recorded, a slight decrease from last year at this time (30)...

Tacloban City―The province of Samar is now under a state of calamity as the dengue cases continue to surge despite the efforts to contain the mosquito-borne illness.

In a special session on Saturday afternoon, the provincial board approved the resolution to put the province under a state of calamity as the health authorities recorded 1,855 cases from January to July this year.

This is nearly double the 653 dengue cases recorded in 2018.

Alarmed by rising dengue cases, the city government of Catbalogan in Samar has reiterated its call to residents to join its anti-dengue campaign...

MANILA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Dengue cases and deaths continue to surge in the Philippines, prompting the Department of Health to declare on Tuesday the country's dengue outbreak a national epidemic.

Philippine Health Secretary Francisco Duque said the move is to allow local governments to draw on a special quick response fund needed in the fight against the mosquito-borne viral disease.

From January to July 20 this year, Duque said the health department had recorded some 146,000 dengue cases across the country, or 98 percent more than the same period in 2018. The outbreak has caused 622 deaths, he added.

Duque said it is important to declare a national epidemic to identify where the localized response is needed and enable local government units to use their quick response to address the situation.

From July 14-20 alone, Duque said the Department of Health had recorded 10,502 dengue cases in 14 regions nationwide. This was 71 percent higher than the figures gathered in the same period in 2018, he added...

MANILA, Philippines ? The number of dengue cases has soared to more than 160,000, the highest in the last five years, with 661 fatalities so far, an official of the Department of Health (DOH) said yesterday.

Undersecretary Eric Domingo noted the DOH-Epidemiology Bureau had documented a total of 12,880 cases in barely a week from July 21 to 27, which brought the total number to 167,606 patients since Jan. 1.

?This is the highest in the last five years. This is also 98 percent higher than the cases during the same period in 2018. That?s why this is the first time that we declared a national dengue epidemic,? Domingo said.

The figure will likely breach the 216,190 cases recorded in the entire 2018.

According to Domingo, there are 10 regions ?having cases beyond the epidemic threshold,? which include Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Central Visayas, Western Mindanao, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The DOH is closely monitoring the National Capital Region and Ilocos, both exceeding the alert threshold for dengue.

?The peak of dengue starts in August and this will go on in September, October and November. It will start to decrease in December,? Domingo said...

MANILA, Philippines ? The number of recorded dengue cases in the country has climbed to over 160,000 with more than 700 deaths, the Department of Health (DOH) revealed Tuesday.

In the latest report of the DOH?s epidemiology bureau, a total of 167,607 dengue cases were recorded from January 1 to July 27, with 720 deaths.

The DOH also noted 12,880 cases were recorded in only a week?s period from July 21 to July 27.

Western Visayas had the most number of dengue cases at 27,765 with 126 deaths, followed by Calabarzon with 19,732 cases and 69 deaths...

NEARLY HALF OF ALL DENGUE DEATHS IN THE PHILIPPINES ARE CHILDREN UNDER NINE YEARS OLD

Manila, August 16 ? At least 300 children aged 5-9 have died in the recent Dengue outbreak in the Philippines, Save the Children said today, amid fears the epidemic could claim many more lives before it?s brought under control. In the first seven months of 2019, some 170,000 people were infected with the disease, killing 720 people ? 42 percent were children between 5 and 9 years old. Compared to the same period in 2018, this year?s dengue caseload is 97 per cent higher. The virus is disproportionately affecting children and young people with a staggering 73 per cent of recorded cases under the age of 19.

Albert Muyot, ceo of Save the Children in the Philippines, said:
?Hundreds of children have sadly already died, we expect the numbers to rise. The rainy season started late and will continue this month, creating the perfect breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes.

?Children are particularly a vulnerable to the disease because their immune systems are weaker than adults and they tend to play outside where there?s less protection against the mosquitos. Schools in particular are a hotbed of dengue because many have open windows and lack mosquito repellents.

?It is extremely important that health authorities step up their information campaigns in schools, communities and other places where people come together, so people know what to do if they suspect dengue. Also, the government must step up their fumigation campaign to kill adult dengue mosquitoes in densely populated areas.

?In the Philippines, we are working with schools and communities to improve awareness on how to prevent infection. To save lives, children need extra protection. Wearing long sleeves and trousers is one of the simple measures to protect against being bitten. Early diagnosis is critical and we are raising awareness of those symptoms, like fever and body pain, and encouraging all parents to take their children to hospital immediately if they have concerns.

?Save the Children is referring child dengue cases to health centers in vulnerable communities in Navotas, Caloocan and Malabon as well as in conflict-affected provinces in Bangsamoro Automous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).?

Dengue causes flu-like illness, including a sudden high fever coming in separate waves, pain behind the eyes, muscle, joint and bone pain, severe headache, and a skin rash with red spots.
People with symptoms get ill between 4 to 7 days after a bite from an infected Aedes mosquito. The illness can become the fatal Severe Dengue, characterised by severe abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, convulsions, bruising, uncontrolled bleeding, and high fever which can last from 2 to 7 days.
Complications can lead to circulatory system failure, shock, and death.
There were 167,607 dengue cases between January-July 2019, up from 85,011 in the same period in 2018.
Of the 167,607 recorded cases of dengue between January and July 2019, 121,942 were under the age of 19.

MANILA, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- The number of dengue cases in the Philippines has surged to 208,917 from Jan. 1 to Aug. 10 this year with 882 deaths, the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) said on Friday.

The number is more than double of the cases recorded in the same period last year, the DOH added. Last year, the DOH recorded 102,298 dengue cases with 540 deaths.

The DOH said 10 regions across the Philippines, including the National Capital Region or Metro Manila, have already exceeded the threshold for an epidemic.

DOH data also showed the age group mostly affected by dengue are those from five to nine years old...

MANILA, Philippines ? The fatalities due to dengue are now nearing a thousand as the prevalence of the mosquito-borne disease continues to surge nationwide.

Data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed a total of 229,736 dengue cases from January to Aug. 17. Deaths rose to 958 ? a noticeable rise from last year?s 582 for the same period. The total figure is more than double the 110,970 cases recorded during the same period last year.

The high incidence of dengue prompted the DOH to declare a national dengue epidemic last month.

Western Visayas posted the most number of cases with 39,892; followed by Calabarzon with 30,899 and Northern Mindanao with 17,674.

DOH said Western Visayas also accounted for the highest number of deaths with 179; followed by Calabarzon with 98 and Central Visayas with 90.

Dengue cases exceeded the epidemic threshold in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol region, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Cases in the National Capital Region and Ilocos have exceeded the alert threshold....

Over a Thousand killed by Dengue Fever in the Philippines

Manila, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) Dengue has killed 1,021 people in the Philippines so far this year, 40 percent of them children, reported the Ministry of Health today.

Nearly 250,000 cases of the disease were reported between January and August, and the death toll is already almost double that of last year.

Deputy Health Minister Eric Domingo explained that the epidemic is still not under control, although the number of cases has been reduced. 'We must be on guard against dengue until the end of the year,' he said.

MANILA, Philippines — Dengue prevalence in the country soared to 300,000 as cases in 12 regions exceeded the epidemic threshold, the Department of Health (DOH) reported yesterday.

A total of 307,704 dengue patients were admitted in different hospitals nationwide from Jan. 1 to Sept. 14, based on the DOH dengue surveillance report.

The number was higher by 142,783 cases compared to the same period in 2018. Fatalities also went up to 1,247 from 742 last year...

Dengue deaths rise in Cordillera

AT LEAST 20 have died from dengue according to the Department of Health-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH-CAR).

Karen Lonogan, senior health program officer of DOH-CAR, explained in her report during the fourth quarter Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Council (RLECC) at the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) that at present, 7,215 dengue cases have been recorded by the health department in the region.

“This is 15 percent higher compared to that of last year with 6,200. We have 20 deaths reported with a case fatality rate of .3 percent. 1,255 cases are the 6 to 10 years old who are the most affected individuals of dengue. The barangay clustering noted 89 or 7.5 percent of the barangays in the region experienced a clustering of dengue. Of the 20 deaths, three came from outside the region,” Lonogan said.

From 2010 to 2019, three cycles of dengue was noted in the previous years. However, the 2018 to 2019 records indicated an equal number of cases which shows a year round presence of dengue in the Cordillera...
