Government raises the positive cases of COVID-19 to 16,325

President Mart?n Vizcarra reported on Monday that the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in the country rose to 16,325 after the processing of 148,011 samples.

During a press conference, the Head of State specified that to date there are 1,682 patients hospitalized with the new coronavirus, of which 385 are in the ICU with mechanical ventilation.

The President of Peru, Mart?n Vizcarra, extended this Thursday (23) the quarantine adopted in the country against the new coronavirus. The initial plan was to maintain the confinement until next Sunday (26), but the end of the measure was postponed until May 10.
"The [infection] curve continues to rise. And responsibly, that forces us not to let our guard down," explained Vizcarra.

Peru is the second country in South America with the highest number of cases of Covid-19, behind only Brazil. In the last nine days, the number of coronavirus cases in the country doubled, reaching 20,914 on Thursday (23). The rapid spread of the virus has caused the Peruvian health system to collapse, with bodies waiting to be removed from hospitals and protective equipment being improperly reused.

In addition, thousands of people were left without income because of the pandemic. The government announced an economic stimulus program of 90 billion new suns (R $ 147 billion), equivalent to 12% of Peruvian GDP. Peru reported 3,683 new cases of COVID-19 this Saturday, the highest number reached in a day since the first case of the epidemic was known on March 6, which so far has left 700 dead in the country. Lima, May 2 (EFE) .- The Government of Peru announced this Saturday the reactivation of its economy in four phases by reducing the duplication of COVID-19 infections every eight days, although in the last week the worst death records were confirmed daily, whose accumulated is 1,200 deceased and 42,534 infected.

The economic reactivation plan approved at the meeting of the Council of Ministers contemplates that it begin in May to end 48 days of almost absolute paralysis of the economy, where the companies necessary to guarantee the supply of food, medicine, health and Energy.

Each of the four phases is scheduled to complete around a month until August, according to the president of Peru, Mart?n Vizcarra, in a televised appearance from the Government Palace of Lima.

The Peruvian president revealed that he had a telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who promised "not only to support Peru with equipment and accessories but also with scientific knowledge."
