Situation Report:
Surveillance of influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) Week 1, 2013
1. Universal Surveillance: Trend and intensity of the activity of influenza-like illness (ILI).
As recorded in Schedule Weekly notifiable nationally, ILI consultations accumulated in the SE 1 (-2012 December 30 to January 05, 2013) amounted to 3968, showing an increase of 51.8% over to EW 52, from 2614 consultations in the week before the 3968 consultations in week 1, with a rate of 59.5 per 100,000 population, ranking warning strip endemic corridor.

2. - Sentinel Surveillance: Monitoring of ILI consultations and hospitalized SARI:
In sentinel surveillance was a rise from the previous week (163/4.535) in regard to the proportion of ILI consultations, representing 8.6% (200/2.316) of all searches.
During the SE 1, the proportion of hospitalized for severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) in sentinel sites showed a decrease from the previous week (40/1.406), being 0.8% (12/1.518).
The highest number of cumulative cases of SARI (12) are in groups of 5 to 19 years and older than 60 years.
In the SE 1 there were no deaths or ICU revenue in SARI sentinel.

3. - Viral circulation
In the SE 1 11 respiratory specimens were processed from SARI sentinel hospitals being identified viruses Influenza A H3 and Parainfluenza.
