Saturday, October 10, 2015 - Lahore?Following the lab confirmation of Punjab?s first polio case of 2015, a team of experts led by Punjab?s Director Expanded Program on Immunization Dr. Munir Ahmed visited the Lehr Sultan Pura Union Council in Choa Saidan Shah, Chakwal. The team comprises experts from WHO, UNICEF and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The team visited the area and found that the child, named Farhan, age 71 months, had received more than 10 dozes of immunization and was on his way to recovery...

A senior Pakistani health official has been killed when armed assailants opened fire on his vehicle in the country?s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near the border with Afghanistan.

Local Pakistani police officials said that doctor Yaqub Khan, head of the Expanded Program of Immunization in Swabi district of the troubled province, came under attack on Monday when he was driving.

He was killed on the spot while the driver suffered injuries in the deadly assault in the district, located about 115 kilometers (71 miles) northwest of the capital, Islamabad...

Months of anti-polio efforts in Karachi seem to have been in vain in a matter of just 72 hours with the confirmation of two cases on Wednesday in Baldia Town, a couple of days after two other children were diagnosed with the disease in Gadap Town.

The two new cases have taken the number reported in the city this year to six, 11 in Sindh, and 47 in the entire country...

Pakistan witnessed a major turnaround in the prevalence of polio last year as compared to 2014, which was the worst year in more than a decade for the country.

There was a drastic reduction in the number of reported polio cases in 2015. The polio cases dropped from the 306 recorded in 2014 to 51 in 2015. This is the lowest-ever count recorded since 2009, according to official data...
