QUETTA - The new year?s first polio case was reported on Thursday morning from Chaghai district of Balochistan.
According to Balochistan Health Department, the crippling virus was found in a two-year-old Shafi Muhammad from the Barabcha area of Chaghai. This was the first polio case to be reported in 2015 in Pakistan. A total of 22 polio cases were reported from Balochistan in 2014 - most of these were reported from Quetta, Killa Abdullah and Pishin districts of the province. Polio teams have been facing tough resistance from extremists in the above-mentioned districts...

ISLAMABAD: The polio count for the year 2015 in the country started on Saturday as the first polio case of the new year was confirmed by the virology laboratory at the National Institute of Health (NIH).
An official of the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) said that although first case of 2015 had been reported, there were some pending cases from 2014 with the laboratory and they might drive the count of polio cases further upwards.
?A sample collected on Jan 3 has been confirmed and the child has been found to be suffering from polio.

Karachi ? A policeman was killed when anonymous assailant attacked a polio team here on Monday, Pakistan Tribune reported.
The incident occurred in Banaras Orangi Colony area of metropolis where two motorcycle riding assailant opened fire on a polio team dispersing polio vaccines to children in the area.

KARACHI / PESHAWAR: Three more cases of polio were confirmed in the country on Friday, taking 2015?s count to six. The infected children belong to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and Sindh.
According to the K-P health department, 29-month-old Munazza from Khweshgi village of Nowshera district tested positive for the poliovirus. Her sample was collected on January 5.
The second polio-infected child belongs to Birmal tehsil in South Waziristan Agency; nine-month-old Ataullah?s sample was collected on January 7.
The third case of the day hails from Qambar district in Sindh and the child?s sample was collected on January 4. Further details for this case have not been released yet...

PESHAWAR - Two more polio cases surfaced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) on Wednesday, taking the number of polio cases registered so far to nine in the current year.
Official sources at provincial health department confirmed the newly-reported cases and said a 14-month-old girl Habiba from Sher Jangi union council in the outskirts of provincial metropolis and 13-month-old Shahzad from Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency were tested positive for the polio virus.
