Thirteen more dengue cases were reported in Karachi on Monday, increasing the number of patients so far this year to 524, said the Sindh Dengue Surveillance Cell.

The focal person for the cell, Dr M Shakeel Aamir Mullick, said a total of 537 dengue cases had been reported in Sindh this year.The cell?s report said 21 patients were still admitted in different hospitals across the city, while 19 had been discharged after treatment...

Terming the month of August as a critical month with regard to breeding of dengue, they said all concerned departments need to work hard for elimination of dengue apart from intensifying vector surveillance and larvaeciding activities...

MINGORA: The number of dengue patients rose to 800 in Swat district on Sunday, hospital sources said.

The sources said that more than 400 patients had been admitted to the Saidu Sharif Hospital while rest ones were forced to getting treatment at homes due to lack of space at the hospital. The sources said that each patient was being charged about Rs1000 for a single test in private laboratories...

KARACHI: After a month-long respite from dengue deaths, the city alarmingly recorded three more deaths caused by the virus over the past three days while yet another death ? the first one outside Karachi ? was reported by a Hyderabad hospital, bringing this year?s death toll in the province to 10, officials said on Tuesday.

The officials added that out of the three patients who died in the metropolis two were women.

One of them, an 18-year-old woman, died in Manghopir on Saturday just a day after she had been admitted to a hospital, said the provincial dengue surveillance cell.

Earlier, six deaths caused by dengue had been reported from Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Orangi, North Karachi and New Karachi.

841 dengue fever cases

According to the data compiled by the dengue surveillance cell, 841 dengue cases have been reported in Sindh so far this year. Most cases have been reported in Karachi, barring 31 from rest of the province.

Last year more than 700 cases of dengue fever were reported out of which four people, including a woman, died.

In 2011, 858 dengue cases and 16 deaths caused by the virus had been reported from Karachi.

Three cases of dengue were reported from Bajaur, two from Dir and five from Shangla, said spokesperson for Saidu Teaching Hospital (STH) Dr Shah Dawaran on Thursday.

Around 700 patients of dengue virus have been enlisted at STH while more than 3,000 are undergoing treatment in private clinics and hospitals of Swat.

The three patients from Bajaur are said to have contracted the virus in Mingora...

MINGORA: The district administration said that 473 patients had been discharged after getting proper treatment at the Saidu Shairf Hospital on Thursday as the officials meet today (Friday) to take stock of the situation, official said.

A day after the dengue virus claimed two lives in Swat, 73 new cases were confirmed by Saidu Teaching Hospital (STH) on Tuesday.

The total number of people admitted at STH since the outbreak has now touched 1,673, according to STH dengue cell in-charge Dr Wasil Ahmed. He added 72 patients were recently discharged after recovering from the debilitating fever.

“Currently, 248 patients including 11 children are hospitalised. Forty nine of the patients have been admitted in the newly-established dengue unit,” he said...

MINGORA: The official death toll from dengue virus reached 11 on Friday after two more patients died in Saidu Teaching Hospital.

The two recent deaths are of 65-year-old Shamozay Khan and 20-year-old Azra Iqbal, said hospital spokesperson Dr Wasil Ahmed.

According to another account, Sajjad Ahmed, 24, has also died of dengue which has increased the unofficial death count to 19...

The death of a woman on Sunday has taken the official dengue death toll to 13 on Sunday. Till Saturday, unofficial figures placed the number of dengue patients who had died at 23.
Minister for Health Shaukat Yousafzai, who visited Saidu Sharif Teaching hospital?s (STH) dengue cell on Sunday, observed the performance of the medical staff during the dengue outbreak has been satisfactory.
?All kinds of diagnostic tests and treatment for dengue fever are being provided free of charge. The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has provided Rs200 million to the health department and will ensure free treatment in all hospitals in K-P,? he said.
