This latest bird flu outbreak in Strathroy-Caradoc, declared Nov. 22, affects 15,625 turkeys and is on a commercial farm, the agency said in an email, noting the property is “next” to the “infected premises” where the highly contagious virus was first detected on Nov. 14.

“The continued detections of HPAI in both wild and domestic birds in Canada is a strong reminder for anyone raising birds to remain vigilant of HPAI and ensure they have effective biosecurity measures in place,” the CFIA said...

A highly contagious version of avian flu continues its spread in the Strathroy-Caradoc area, outside London, Ont.

H5N1, described by Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) officials as a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), has been identified on three commercial properties. Concentrated southwest of Strathroy, the first infection was identified on Nov. 14, with subsequent infections on Nov. 22 and 26.

CFIA officials responded by email to questions submitted by CTV London. They indicate that there were 32,000 turkeys affected at the first identified site (ON-IP63) and 15,625 turkeys affected at the second site (ON-IP64). The number of birds affected at the third site hasn’t been identified.

The CFIA has established a primary control zone around the region to prevent the spread of the virus. In that restricted area, a permit is needed to move birds, their products, and any by-products...

Bird flu: Approximately 56,000 turkeys will be killed due to an outbreak

Radio-Canada
Published yesterday at 6:02 PM CST

Another outbreak of avian influenza was detected Monday in southern Ontario, this time at a commercial farm in North Perth, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced.

The agency did not disclose the name of the affected farm, but stated in a written declaration that approximately 56,000 turkeys will be humanely culled and destroyed in accordance with provincial standards.

The farm is located within a control zone established to reduce the spread of the highly pathogenic virus. A permit is required to transport birds and poultry products within the zone.

When the avian flu is gone, these restrictions could be lifted.

Avian influenza has been detected at two more poultry farms in North Perth near Listowel, Ont., bringing the total number of outbreaks in that area to three since Dec. 15, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

It's unclear how many birds have been affected by the virus in that area, but the first outbreak affected roughly 56,000 turkeys, according to the CFIA.

CBC News has reached out to the CIFA for more information on the latest outbreaks and will update this story once a response is received.

The CFIA's records show the virus was detected at two more nearby commercial farms in North Perth on Dec. 19 and Dec. 21, but it's unclear whether the birds affected in the more recent detections are turkeys...
