Ontario health officials are reporting 75 deaths over the span of 19 days due to COVID-19, citing a data catch-up, as hospitalizations and intensive care admissions declined on Thursday.

“Due to the highly transmissible Omicron variant, we are evaluating whether there is a need to update reporting to distinguish between causal and incidental deaths related to COVID-19,” the provincial health minister’s spokesperson said on Thursday.

Health officials said 4,061 people are now in hospital testing positive for COVID-19, a decrease of 71 patients since Wednesday.

There are 594 people in intensive care, five fewer patients than on Wednesday.

The province also reported that of those hospitalized, 55 per cent are seeking care due to COVID-19, while the remaining 45 per cent were admitted to the hospital for unrelated reasons and are now testing positive for the virus.

In intensive care, 81 per cent of patients are admitted primarily for COVID-19, while the remaining 19 per cent are testing positive but are being treated for a separate issue.

Meanwhile, Ontario is reporting 7,757 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, but health officials have warned that number is an underestimate due to limited testing.

Of those who tested positive for COVID-19, 1,079 are unvaccinated, 260 are partially vaccinated, 5,819 are fully vaccinated and 599 have an unknown vaccination status.

With 42,907 tests processed in the last 24 hours, Ontario is reporting a test positivity rate of 15.9 per cent...

Ontario health officials reported that 4,114 people are in hospital with COVID-19, and 590 of those patients are in intensive care.

The total number of people in hospital with the disease on Friday is an increase over the 4,061 reported on Thursday, while the number of people in intensive care units dropped from 594 on Thursday to 590 today.

The province reported that 54 per cent of the 4,114 hospitalizations are people who are in hospital primarily due to COVID-19, while the remaining 46 per cent were admitted for other reasons but have now tested positive for the virus.

Eighty-two per cent of patients are in ICU primarily due to COVID-19, while 18 per cent of cases are there primarily for other reasons, but also have the virus.

The province said that 263 of the people in ICU are fully vaccinated, 208 are unvaccinated and 16 are partially vaccinated. The remaining 103 have an unknown vaccination status.

According to data released by the Ontario Science Table on Thursday, which takes into account population sizes, people who are fully vaccinated with at least two doses are 80.5 per cent less likely to end up in hospital and 90.6 per cent less likely to end up in ICU compared to people who are unvaccinated.

The province reported 7,165 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, but health officials have warned that number is an underestimate due to testing limitations and backlogs.

Ontario health officials are reporting a drop in the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations on Saturday as ICU admissions linked to the virus climb.

The 4,026 patients currently in hospital represent a decrease over the 4,114 patients reported a day earlier. Meanwhile, ICU admissions rose from 590 to 600.

Of those 4,026 patients, 56 per cent were admitted to the hospital for COVID-19 and 44 per cent were admitted for other reasons but have since tested positive for the virus, according to Health Minister Christine Elliott.

Most of the patients in hospital are fully vaccinated at 2,079, while 783 are unvaccinated, and 194 are partially vaccinated. No vaccination information was provided for the remaining 3,056 hospitalized patients.

In the ICU, 81 per cent of patients were admitted for COVID-19 and 19 per cent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19 after their admission.

Data released by the government shows that 227 patients in the ICU are fully vaccinated, 216 are unvaccinated, and 17 are partially vaccinated. The vaccination status of the remaining 140 patients is unknown, according to the government.

Another 6,473 cases of COVID-19 were reported across Ontario since yesterday, though officials have said that number is likely an underestimate due to limited testing availability.

With 36,396 tests processed in the last 24 hours, Ontario’s COVID-19 positivity rate is 15.9 per cent.

The Ministry of Health says that 47 deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported on Saturday, though they say that number only includes deaths that have occurred in the last month...

Ontario reported 56 new deaths due to COVID-19 on Sunday, as the burden on the province’s intensive care units held relatively stable over the past 24 hours.

The number of people hospitalized in intensive care due to COVID-19 across the province stayed relatively constant, rising from 600 on Saturday to 604 today.

Overall hospital admissions data is incomplete on weekends. Three hundred and seventy-three ICU patients are breathing with the help of a ventilator, down three from Saturday.

There have been 299 deaths due to COVID-19 reported across Ontario in the past seven days. Fifty-seven deaths were detected Sunday but one earlier death was removed from the total.

Seven of Sunday’s reported deaths involved residents of the long-term care system...

...Of reported cases confirmed through PCR testing, the Ministry of Health said 835 involved unvaccinated people, 223 involved partially vaccinated people, 4,175 involved fully vaccinated people and 600 involved people with unknown vaccination status.

Ontario’s COVID-19 death toll has now surpassed 11,000 with 36 net new fatalities confirmed on Monday.

Provincial health officials say there are now 3,861 patients in hospital with COVID-19, including 615 in intensive care, up from 578 one week ago. Last Monday, the province said there were 3,887 patients with COVID-19 receiving treatment in hospital...

...Another 4,790 new infections were reported today although over the past month, the number of new infections reported each day is an undercount of the true total due to restrictions on who is eligible to receive a test.

Of the cases confirmed today, 814 involve those who are unvaccinated, 182 involve those who are partially vaccinated, 3,496 involve people with at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 298 have an unknown vaccination status.

Only 20,716 tests process over the past 24 hours, resulting in a provincewide positivity rate to 18.4 per cent today, down from 24.2 per cent seven days ago...

Ontario reported 64 new COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday, while the number of patients in hospital remains near all-pandemic highs.

There are 4,008 patients admitted with COVID-19 across Ontario hospitals on Tuesday, and 626 of them are in intensive care.

The total number of hospital patients with COVID-19 is down by 106 since Friday, the last day where full hospital data was available, while the number of ICU patients is up by 36.

Ontario Minister of Health Christine Elliott says 55 per cent of general patient admissions with COVID-19 and 85 per cent of ICU admissions were primarily due to coronavirus infection, while the remainder attended hospital for other reasons and later tested positive for the virus...

... Of Tuesday’s deaths, Ministry of Health spokesperson Alexandra Hilkene said they occurred across a span of the past 20 days, with one occurring on Monday, 15 occurring on Sunday, 24 occurring on Saturday and the remaining 24 occurring in the 17 days prior to that.

Ontario is reporting 92 more deaths related to COVID-19 as well as a slight decrease in the number of patients being treated with the disease in intensive care.

Of those deaths, 89 were confirmed over the past 21 days while the remaining three occurred more than a month ago.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Health said that six of the deaths occurred on Tuesday, 23 occurred on Monday and 27 occurred on Sunday...

... There are 4,016 people being treated with COVID-19 in Ontario hospitals, including 608 patients in an intensive care unit.

This marks a slight decrease from Tuesday when there were 626 patients in ICU.

Just over 83 per cent of ICU patients were admitted due to COVID-19 while the remaining 17 per cent tested positive while being treated for other ailments.

According to provincial data, 376 of those in ICU are either unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status.

Three hundred and sixty-seven of those patients are breathing with the assistance of a ventilator.

With just over 33,600 tests processed in the last 24 hour period, the province’s positivity rate now stands at about 14.1 per cent.

Another 5,368 lab-confirmed cases were reported Wednesday, however, this number is an underestimation as the province is only testing a select number of people...

Ontario reported 70 more COVID-19 deaths today and over 3,600 patients are hospitalized with the virus, a notable day-over-day drop in hospitalizations amid the fourth wave of the pandemic.

There are currently 3,645 patients hospitalized with the virus in Ontario, compared to 4,016 yesterday and 4,061 a week ago, according to the Ministry of Health.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says 56 per cent of the latest hospital patients were admitted for the virus and 44 per cent were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for COVID-19.

Of those hospitalized, 599 are in ICU, up from 594 a week ago, and 366 are breathing with the help of a ventilator.

Although ICU capacity is up week-over-week, today marks the third straight day of declines in the number of COVID-19 ICU patients.

Eighty-two per cent of the latest ICU patients were admitted to hospital for COVID-19 and 18 per cent were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for the virus, according to Elliott.

The 70 deaths reported today occurred in the past 19 days, the ministry says...

...Among the dead, over 10,200 of the individuals were over 60 years old and 938 were under 59 years old, including 10 who were 19 and under...

...Provincial labs processed more than 33,500 tests in the past 24 hours, producing a positivity rate of 14.1 per cent, compared to 15.9 per cent a week ago, the ministry says.

Another 5,852 coronavirus cases were logged in the province today, but that is likely a significant undercount due to testing restrictions....

Ontario health officials reported 68 additional deaths related to COVID-19 while hospitalizations dropped again on Friday.

Of the deaths logged on Friday, 67 took place over the past 13 days – 36 of which occurred this week – according to the spokesperson for Ontario’s Health Minister. In addition, one death happened more than a month ago.

Health officials said 3,535 people in hospital have tested positive for COVID-19, including 607 people in intensive care units (ICU).

The province also reported that of those hospitalized, 55 per cent are seeking care due to COVID-19, while the remaining patients were admitted to the hospital for unrelated reasons and tested positive for the virus.

In intensive care, 82 per cent of patients were admitted for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Ontario is reporting 5,337 new COVID-19 cases, but health officials have warned that number is an underestimate due to restricted testing...

The province is reporting 3,439 people in hospital with COVID-19 Saturday, with 597 people currently in intensive care.

The latest number of hospitalizations is a decrease of 96 from Friday’s data.

This is also a drop of over 500 hospitalizations in comparison to last Saturday’s hospitalizations which stood at 4,026.

Of the 3,439 people hospitalized, around 55 per cent of them were admitted because of the virus, while about 45 per cent were admitted for other reasons but then tested positive for COVID-19.

Of the 597 people currently in ICU, around 82 per cent of those in intensive care were admitted because of COVID, while around 18 per cent were admitted for other reasons but test positive for COVID-19.

Last Saturday, 600 people were reported in intensive care units.

For those in general hospital wards with COVID, 667 were unvaccinated, 153 were partially vaccinated and 1,755 were fully vaccinated.

For those in ICUs, 199 were unvaccinated while 18 were partially vaccinated and 231 were fully vaccinated...

Ontario health officials reported 58 additional deaths related to COVID-19 Sunday while hospitalizations dropped significantly to 3,019.

On Saturday, there were 3,439 patients hospitalized due to COVID-19.

Health officials said 3,019 people in hospital have tested positive for COVID-19, including 587 people in intensive care units (ICU).

The province did not release data today on how many patients were admitted for the virus and how many were admitted for other reasons but are testing positive for COVID-19. The vaccination status of hospitalized patients was also not provided by the province today.

Of the 58 deaths reported Sunday, 55 occured in the last month and three occured more than a month ago, but were added to the total as part of a data clean up, according to Sunday's epidemiological report.

Nineteen deaths reported Sunday were among long-term care residents, according to the province’s epidemiology report.

Meanwhile, Ontario is reporting 3,960 new COVID-19 cases, but health officials have warned that number is an underestimate due to restricted testing.
