A Dutch pregnant woman in Amsterdam says that she has been infected with the zika virus. According to the woman, the disease was diagnosed by a doctor in Suriname after she was suffering from itching and rash. The woman was about 15 weeks pregnant and the baby is healthy, she says via NOS NTR radio.

The Dutch woman is of Surinamese descent and would have infected with zika during a holiday in Suriname. She was examined at the AMC hospital in Amsterdam. An echo of the head of her child made and it was found that everything was in order.

No blood test

The blood of the woman was not tested in Suriname. Also in Amsterdam not test was done, because the virus would not be found in her blood. Commenting Minister Schippers said she does not know whether it is indeed this is a zika infection. "That has not been confirmed to me by the RIVM." According to her, there is no reason to impose a reporting obligation for zika infections.

She repeated that twenty people have been infected with the virus. She did not know whether there were pregnant women.
