On the eve of New Brunswick's transition to eased COVID-19 restrictions, the province recorded another COVID-related death, hospitalizations decreased by one, to 78, and less than half of the eligible population has received their booster dose of a vaccine against the virus.

Premier Blaine Higgs said hospitals are "stabilizing enough," with the number of hospitalizations continuing to trend downward, and more health-care workers able to return to work after testing positive, to move to Level 1 of the COVID-19 winter plan, the least restrictive level, at 11:59 p.m...

...The new death recorded Friday is a person in their 90s in the Moncton region, Zone 1, according to the dashboard.

Of the 78 people in hospital, 43 were admitted for COVID-19, while 35 were admitted for something else when they tested positive for the virus.

Eight people are in intensive care, a decrease of one, and eight of them are on ventilators, an increase of three.

Hospital occupancy remains at 88 per cent, while ICU occupancy decreased one per cent to 72 per cent.

The seven-day average of COVID-related hospitalizations continues to steadily decline and now stands at 100, down from 108 on Thursday. The seven-day average of people requiring intensive care also dropped to 11 from 12.

There are 364 health-care workers off the job after testing positive for COVID, an increase of two. That includes 176 from the Horizon Health Network, 133 from the Vitalité Health Network and 55 from Extra-Mural/Ambulance New Brunswick...

Two people died of COVID-19 and hospitalizations related to the disease held steady in New Brunswick over the Family Day long weekend.

An update to the government of New Brunswick's COVID-19 dashboard shows a total of 300 people have now died from the disease in the province since the start of the pandemic.

The number of people in hospital both for and with COVID-19 hasn't changed, at 78. Of those, 32 are in hospital with COVID-19 while 46 are in hospital for COVID-19, according to the dashboard.

The number of people in intensive care has stayed the same, at eight, while three people are on ventilators, which is five fewer than what was reported Friday.

The province hadn't released any COVID-19 statistics since Friday, following a reporting change announced last week that updates won't be provided on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays...

...Since Friday, 1,148 people have tested positive through PCR testing, while 2,572 have tested positive using at-home rapid tests, which they self-reported...

Hospitalizations connected to COVID-19 continue to drop, and the Department of Health reports no new deaths attributed to the disease on Wednesday.

An update to the government of New Brunswick's COVID-19 dashboard shows the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 hasn't increased since the province reached 300 for the entire pandemic as of Tuesday.

The number of people now in hospital either with COVID-19 or because of COVID-19 dropped from 78 to 74.

Of those, 45 are in hospital for COVID-19, while 29 are in hospital with COVID-19.

The number of people in intensive care has also dropped from eight to six people. One of them is in ICU with COVID-19, while the five others are in ICU for COVID-19.

Three people are on ventilators, a number unchanged from Tuesday.

The continued downward trend of hospitalizations comes on the fifth day since New Brunswick moved back to Level 1 of its COVID-19 winter plan, which removed the need for residents to keep a steady set of close contacts, as well as capacity limits on restaurants and gyms...

Premier Blaine Higgs says all COVID-19 restrictions in New Brunswick will be gone by March 14.

The first to go will be the need to show proof of vaccination at places such as restaurants, theatres and gyms, which will be dropped at 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 28, Higgs announced Thursday.

All remaining requirements — about limits on gatherings, isolation requirements and indoor and outdoor masking — will come to an end with the end of the mandatory order at 12:01 a.m. on March 14, he told reporters at a briefing...

...An update to the New Brunswick COVID-19 dashboard on Thursday shows there have been no new deaths attributed to COVID-19 for a second day in a row, leaving the total death toll at 300.

Hospitalizations have increased by three, bringing the total number to 77 across the province. Of those, 36 are in hospital with COVID-19 and 41 are in hospital for COVID-19.

Three people have died and 17 more have been hospitalized over the weekend in New Brunswick with COVID-19.

Although hospitalizations have been in decline over the last few weeks, the number of people in hospital has jumped to 89 — up from 72, since the last report on Friday.

They include 47 hospitalized due to COVID-19 and another 42 who were admitted for another reason but tested positive for the virus.

Three people are in ICU and two people on a ventilator. Hospitals are now at 90 per cent capacity while ICU beds are at 72 per cent capacity.

The three new deaths involve a person in their 70s in the Moncton region, a person in their 70s in the Edmundston region, and a person in their 90s in the Bathurst region...

Health officials in New Brunswick reported two more deaths related to COVID-19 on Tuesday.

According to the province’s COVID-19 dashboard, the deaths involve:

a person in their 60s in the Moncton region (Zone 1)
a person in their 80s in the Fredericton region (Zone 3)

New Brunswick has reported 306 COVID-19-related deaths since the start of the pandemic.

On Tuesday, the province also reported 86 people in hospital with COVID-19 – a decrease of three since Monday.

Of those in hospital, 41 were admitted for COVID, while 45 were admitted for other reasons, but tested positive on admission, or while at the hospital.

There are currently three people being treated in intensive care and one person is on a ventilator.

The number of New Brunswickers hospitalized with COVID-19, those requiring intensive care and those on a ventilator all increased Wednesday, the COVID dashboard shows.

There are 89 people in hospital, up three from Tuesday, including 45 admitted for COVID-19 and 44 admitted for something else when they tested positive for the virus.

Eight people are in intensive care, an increase of five, and three of them are on ventilators, up two.

The latest figures come as the province prepares to lift all COVID-19 restrictions by March 14.

Of those hospitalized, one is aged 19 or under, four are in their 20s, three in their 30s, eight in their 40s, six in their 50s, 17 in their 60s, 19 in their 70s, 18 in their 80s, and five in their 90s.

Of those in ICU, one is in their 30s, two are in their 40s, one is in their 50s, and four are in their 70s.

The seven-day average of COVID-related hospitalizations decreased Wednesday to 79 from 80, following two days of increases that interrupted a steady decline since Feb. 7, when it stood at 161.

The seven-day average of people requiring intensive care remained steady at four.

New Brunswick recorded two more COVID-related deaths Thursday and has no immediate plans to offer a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to the general population, the Department of Health says.

The new deaths include a person in their 90s in the Bathurst region, Zone 6, and a person in their 70s in the Miramichi region, Zone 7, the COVID-19 dashboard shows.

There are 88 people in hospital, down one from Wednesday, including six in intensive care, a decrease of two, and two of them on ventilators, down one.

Fourth doses are currently only available and recommended for immunocompromised New Brunswickers aged 12 and older, if at least five months have passed since their third dose.

A complete list of the medical conditions and treatments that would result in a person being considered moderately to severely immunocompromised is available online.

The seven-day average of COVID-related hospitalizations jumped to 89 from 82, while the seven-day average of people requiring intensive care remained steady for a fourth straight day at four.

Another New Brunswicker with COVID-19 has died and the number of people requiring intensive care and a ventilator increased Tuesday, as the province draws closer to removing all COVID restrictions next week.

The latest death is a person in their 60s in the Saint John region, Zone 2. No information about them, such as whether they died from COVID or if they just tested positive for the virus when they died, whether they had any other underlying health conditions, or their vaccination status, has been released.

There are 99 people in hospital, down one from Monday, including 12 in intensive care, an increase of three. Five of them are on ventilators, up one.
