Covid-19: Mozambique registers 53 new cases and rises to 1,383 infections

Maputo, 16 Jul 2020 (Lusa) - Mozambique has recorded, in the last 24 hours, 53 more positive cases of covid-19, bringing the total to 1,383, maintaining the nine deaths, the Ministry of Health announced today.
Of the 53 recorded cases, two are children between five and 14 years old and all are in isolation at home, said the director of Public Health in Mozambique, Rosa Marlene, in the update of data on the pandemic, in the Ministry of Health, in Maputo.
The new cases were registered in the provinces of Maputo (06), Cabo Delgado (20), Niassa (04), Nampula (05), Inhambane (01), Gaza (04) and Maputo city (13).
"At this moment, the process of identifying your contacts is underway," added Rosa Marlene.
Of the total cases recorded in Mozambique, 1,239 are locally transmitted and 144 are imported, with seven hospitalized, 380 recovered and nine deaths.
The province of Nampula continues to record the highest number of active cases, with 260 infections, followed by Cabo Delgado, with 244, all from northern Mozambique.
The city and province of Maputo continue with 150 and 139 cases, respectively, while the remaining seven provinces in the country register less than 50 cases.
Mozambique has already cumulatively tested 43,649 people suspected of having contracted covid-19, of which 22,557 have been quarantined, of the more than 1.3 million screened.
