SHAH ALAM: Dengue cases in Selangor has almost doubled with 57,980 people infected between January and Oct 12, this year – an increase of 25,366 cases, compared to the same period last year.

With the number of cases averaging about 1,400 cases a week, the alarming figure made up more than half of the 104,746 confirmed cases reported nationwide as of Oct 12 this year.

State Health, Welfare, Women Empowerment and Family Committee chairman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said Selangor continues to see a relentless climb in dengue cases, with 49 deaths until now for 2019.

Out of the nine districts in the state, Petaling topped the lists with 21,858 cases with 22 deaths, while Hulu Langat had 12,245 cases with 16 deaths and Klang recorded 10,698 cases with seven deaths.

The number of cases in the remaining districts were 7,497 in Gombak with four deaths, 2,176 in Sepang, 1,266 in Hulu Selangor, 1,058 in Kuala Selangor, 1,024 in Kuala Langat and 158 in Sabak Bernam...

Sabah records third most dengue deaths

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah has recorded the third highest number of dengue deaths in the nation from January until Oct 5, said the Malaysian Ministry of Health.

The Ministry, in its tweet Wednesday, listed the top five states for the period – Selangor (49 deaths), Johor (23), Sabah (20), Penang (nine) and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang (eight each).

118,416 dengue fever cases nationwide as of November

KUALA LUMPUR: A total 118,416 cases of dengue fever were reported nationwide from January until Nov 27, a 70% increase compared to the same period in 2018, Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Health Minister, Dr Lee Boon Chye (pix) said 164 deaths were reported in the same period this year compared to 118 deaths last year, namely, an increase of 46 cases (39%)...

Dengue cases reach all-time high

KUALA LUMPUR: The total number of dengue cases this year has reached an all-time high with 120,871 cases recorded as of Wednesday (Dec 4).

The previous high was recorded in 2015, with 120,836 cases.

This averages out to about 331 new cases reported every day.

In August, Deputy Health Minister Lee Boon Chye cautioned that the number could hit 150,000 by year-end.

The latest numbers were published on the iDengue website, which is run by the Health Ministry in collaboration with the National Space Agency...

Number of dengue cases in Negri Sembilan on the rise, 10 deaths recorded so far

SEREMBAN, Dec 23 ― The rise in the number of dengue fever cases in Negri Sembilan continued to persist as a total of 2,205 cases with 10 deaths have been recorded from Jan 1 to Dec 14 this year.

State Health, Environment, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman S. Veerapan said it was an increase of 26.7 per cent from 1,740 cases with four deaths recorded in the same period last year.

“The cumulative distribution of dengue cases in the state this year saw 1,763 cases recorded in Seremban, Port Dickson (103), Tampin (101), Jempol (79), Rembau (60), Jelebu (50) and Kuala Pilah (49),” he said in a statement here today.

He said eight dengue localities, seven of which were in Seremban and one in Kuala Pilah, were still active as of December 14...

Sarawak records 225 pct rise in dengue cases

SIBU: The accumulative number of dengue cases in Sarawak recorded a sharp increase of 225.09 per cent this year.

It recorded 2,578 cases between Jan 1 and Dec 22 this year compared to 793 cases in the corresponding period last year.

The number of dengue cases in Malaysia on the other hand recorded a 63.20 per cent increase this year.

According to Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye, there were 127,407 cases recorded nationwide in the period between Jan 1 and Dec 22 this year, compared to 78,066 cases in the corresponding period last year.

Local dengue fever cases at historic high last year

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 130,101 dengue fever cases were recorded from January until Dec 28 last year, the highest in history for Malaysia.

The numbers, released by the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) of the Health Ministry today (Jan 2), revealed the previous highest cases recorded was 120,836 - in 2015.

However, the 182 deaths reported last year was lower than the 336 recorded in 2015.

There was also a spike in dengue cases in many neighbouring countries.

The World Health Organisation’s Dengue Situation Update report showed an increase in Singapore, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and China by between one and eight times higher compared to the previous year.

Many cases were also recorded in places that used to be dengue-free.

According to WHO, before 1970, only nine countries had experienced severe dengue epidemics compared to 100 currently.

The CPRC reported that last year's dengue figures (up to Dec 28) in Malaysia showed an increase of 49,486 cases (61.4%) compared with 80,615 cases in 2018 during the same period. There were 147 deaths in 2018.

Meanwhile, 990 Chikungunya cases and one positive Zika case were reported from January to Dec 28 last year...
