DENGUE fever, the most prevalent mosquito-borne viral disease, saw a sharp rise of 1,432 cases in Selangor in the first week of the year ending Jan 5.

This was almost three times the number of cases in the corresponding period last year, which was 490 cases, said the Selangor Health Department.

On an average, some 205 cases were reported daily from Dec 30, 2018 to Jan 5.

KUCHING, Feb 16 ? Sarawak State Health Department confirmed a dengue outbreak around Sekama here, covering two localities, namely in Jalan Sekama and Jalan Sekama Utara where the outbreaks were declared on January 23 and on February 11 respectively.

Sarawak Health director Dr Jamilah Hashim when confirming the same said until February 14, 12 dengue cases had been reported in Jalan Sekama, while another three cases were reported in Jalan Sekama Utara...

IPOH: There has been a worrying shift in the dengue virus serotype which Malaysians are contracting, said the Health Ministry.

While dengue virus serotype 1 (DEN 1) was common in the past, this year has seen a surge in the dengue virus serotype 2 (DEN 2) ? the riskiest form of the four dengue strains.

Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye said as such, the number of dengue cases and mortality rate in the country are expected to rise, as the Malaysian population does not have immunity to the DEN 2.

Kelantan Health director Dr Zaini Hussain says Kota Bharu alone recorded 264 cases.

KOTA BHARU: Kelantan recorded 698 dengue cases from January to last Saturday, a 300% increase from the 173 cases reported during the same period last year.

Kelantan Health director Dr Zaini Hussain said the Kota Bharu district showed the highest increase of 264 cases compared to the other nine districts, with a total of 339 cases reported in the district compared to just 75 for the corresponding period last year...

SEREMBAN: Dengue cases in Negri Sembilan increased by 200% in the first two months of this year compared with the same period last year, with three deaths reported.

State health, environment, cooperatives and consumerism committee chairman S. Veerapan said the number of cases increased from 176 to 528 with some 80% reported in the Seremban district alone.

"The three victims were adults who also had other illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension and heart-related ailments.

"There is certainly a cause for concern as there were no deaths reported in the first two months of last year," he said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 28).

Veerapan said that there were 15 localities in Seremban that had been declared as epidemic areas...

KOTA BARU, March 4 ? Kelantan recorded 107 dengue cases and two cases of chikungunya during the 9th week of the year, bringing the total to 805 cases with two dengue deaths during the first two months of 2019.

Sharp rise in dengue cases in Negri Sembilan

SEREMBAN: Dengue cases in the state for the first 12 weeks of this year increased by more than 2.5 times compared with the same period last year, though the trend has declined in recent weeks.

State health director Datuk Dr Zainudin Mohd Ali said 682 cases were reported till last Saturday compared with only 272 cases during the same period last year.

Findings by the department also showed that every eight in 10 cases were reported in the district.

Three people have died so far this year. No deaths were reported during the same period last year...

PUTRAJAYA: Despite many initiatives rolled out by the Health Ministry, dengue cases in the country have risen by an alarming 122.6% from January to April this year.

In the same period last year, 23,717 cases were reported compared with 43,065 this year.

?Selangor recorded the highest number of dengue cases at 25,090 in these first four months,? Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad revealed at a press conference after attending the ministry?s monthly assembly today.

He said prevention programmes have been rolled out by the ministry?s enforcement unit since the beginning of the year.

However, Dzulkefly said dengue is a disease which is difficult to eradicate in a short time, as mosquitoes breed continuously.

THE number of dengue cases in Subang Jaya has increased threefold, compared to the corresponding period last year.

There have been 2,942 dengue cases recorded until May 18.

Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) health director Dr Roslan Mohamad Hussin said he noticed a spike in the number of dengue cases every five years.

?There is an increase in dengue cases nationwide. Even the Health Ministry cannot pinpoint the cause,? he said at a press conference after the council?s full board meeting...

78 dengue deaths recorded nationwide so far this year, most Aedes breeding grounds in residential areas

SIBU: A total of 78 dengue deaths were reported in the country this year, with dengue virus serotype 2 (DEN-2) accounting for the most deaths at 59 per cent, compared to other strains.

Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye disclosed this when asked which dengue strain caused the most fatalities in the country.

?In 2019, between week 1 and week 21, a total of 32 samples from 78 dengue-related death cases reported were tested for serotyping. The results show that DEN-2 causes more deaths (59 per cent) as compared to dengue virus serotype 1 (DEN-1) at 22 per cent, and the remaining deaths were caused by dengue virus serotype 3 (DEN-3) at 19 per cent,? he told The Borneo Post via WhatsApp recently.

Asked on which dengue strain was the most dangerous, he said: ?Based on the Fried JR, et al. 2010 study, DEN-2 is apparently associated with more severe dengue cases...

Dengue cases on the rise in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded over 700 dengue cases in the first half of this year, with Kampung Ajibah Abol near here being the latest outbreak area.

As the number increases, the state health department has taken the approach that it will no longer compromise with any premises, houses or resident units that found to have Aedes breeding grounds.

Vector Borne Disease Control Unit officer of Sarawak Health Department Kuching Division, Dr Mohd Daniel Salim said RM500 compound will be issued under the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act (DDBIA) 1975.

The dengue situation in the state, particularly in Kuching, is worrying as it recorded over 200 cases this year, with Kampung Ajibah Abol, identified as the latest outbreak area, he said.

A total of 37 cases were recorded in Kampung Ajibah Abol from May 13 to June 8...

Kuching tops dengue list with 263 cases

KUCHING: Kuching has the highest cumulative dengue cases with 263 as of last week.

This is followed by Miri with 98 cases, Betong 94 , and Sibu 73. The total cumulative cases for the state were 759 as of last week.

According to state Health director Dr Jamilah Hashim, the number of cases in Sarawak was still low compared to other states, but it is, nevertheless, still worrying...

KUALA LUMPUR: Dengue fever cases in Malaysia reached an all time high, hitting nearly 80, 000 cases and 113 deaths reported from January until Aug 3.

Deputy Health Minister Lee Boon Chye expects the number to hit 150, 000 cases by year end if all out efforts are not taken to keep it under control.

The last highest number of cases recorded was in 2015 which recorded 120, 836 cases with 336 deaths.

The figures between January and Aug 3 is almost double that of last year?s figures for the same period ? 42, 496 cases with 70 deaths.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia saw a rise in deaths caused by dengue to 113 by August 3, compared to 70 cases in the same period last year, the health ministry said on Saturday.

It also said the total of dengue cases from the start of the year to early August hit 80,000, twice the number of cases in the corresponding period last year.

More than 70% of the cases occurred in urban areas, it said...

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 ? There were 143 deaths recorded from the 99,166 dengue cases since the beginning of this year until Tuesday (September 24).

Health Ministry Vector-Borne Disease Sector head, Dr Rose Nani Mudin, said the number had increased significantly compared to last year for the same period with 89 deaths from 54,379 dengue cases.


She said Selangor had the highest number with 54,997 cases and 48 deaths compared to 30,782 cases with 25 deaths for the same period last year.
