The State Health Department said, 79 new patients across the state have been tested positive for the H1N1 virus in last 24 hours, taking the total number of swine flu affected cases in the state to around 4,800.

Joint Director of the Department of Health, Dr. Kanchan Jagtap said, '' No new cases of swine flu is now being reduced. 47 new patients have been found in the state on Tuesday. Per day during the first 100 to 150 patients are found. The incidence of the disease has been reduced somewhat in comparison. ''

Even as medical experts hope that the rising temperatures in the city will lead to an end to the swine flu epidemic, the death toll due to the disease continues to rise. Two more people, including a 7-year-old child, died from swine flu in Mumbai on March 25, taking the death toll to 37.
A seven-year-old male child from Andheri and 48-year-old male from Raigad succumbed to the disease after being treated in city hospitals. The total number of people who have lost their lives to the disease has now reached 37, across Mumbai hospitals, 12 being the residents of the city and 25 who had visited city hospitals for treatment.

MUMBAI: Two pregnant women died of H1N1 influenza in the city on Thursday, keeping fears of the virus alive. Four deaths have been reported in the last two days even as the positive cases are declining.

Among the deceased, one was a 30-year-old resident of Kurla who had delivered a boy in between multiple hospital visits due to the infection. Civic officials said she was first admitted to Haji Karim Hospital on Mohammed Ali Road on March 19. As her condition deteriorated, her family shifted her to Saboo Siddique Hospital on March 21. She, however, succumbed on Thursday, due to bilateral pneumonia with septicemia.

A 23-year-old woman, who was six months pregnant, from Rabale in Navi Mumbai was the second H1N1 victim. She was admitted to a local hospital on February 19. She delivered a stillborn child, which the civic authority did not elaborate whether or not it was related to the infection.

Nagpur: Three more swine flu patients succumbed to the disease on Tuesday taking the death toll in Nagpur circle of state's public health department to 105 since January 1.

Meanwhile, 12 patients tested positive for H1N1 in the region in the last three days.

One of the deceased was from Bhandara while a resident of Madhya Pradesh was undergoing treatment in the city. The third was a 38-year-old woman from Kamptee.

A 65-year-old Mulund resident succumbed to H1N1 virus on Tuesday, taking the city?s death toll to 44. On Sunday, a 64-year-old woman from Andheri passed away due to swine flu. Both senior citizens were already suffering from co-morbid conditions which worsened their state, information from the civic health department indicated.

So far, the virus has taken 42 lives out of which, only 15 are from Mumbai.
To understand the reasons behind H1N1 mortality, the BMC had set up an internal committee which regularly sits to analyse the course of treatment and reasons behind swine flu deaths in the city.

For the first time in the history of Kasturba Hospital has a caesarean section been performed in an isolated sick ward of the hospital. An eight-months-pregnant mother who fell prey to swine flu died a day after her baby boy was born by an emergency Caesarean section performed in the swine flu ward of Kasturba Hospital.

Sonali (name changed), a 26-year-old woman from Borgaon Meghe, a village in Wardha district, was admitted to the Kasturba hospital for sore throat, cough and fever. She soon became breathless and was barely able to get out of the bed. Suspected to have swine flu, she was started on anti-swine flu treatment and her throat samples were sent to the regional laboratory. She tested positive for swine flu and was kept in an isolated Swine-flu ward located in the Medicine department building of the hospital.
