Although that has been my position all along, and this was not an instantaneous 'Frack out'; I do maintain that nonetheless it was a slow-motion 'Frack out'. It was a process that happened months before 5600 ft. below the earth, and only reached fruition on Aug. 3rd. It was a geologic episode of enormous proportions, and very instantaneous in geological terms.

There are also new developments that are old, yet no one seemed to catch it, until now.

TEXAS BRINE seems to be the fall guy and AGENT for OCCIDENTAL CHEMICAL CORPORATION!

These were buried so deep, that it took me almost a year to find them again.

This whole affair has taken a very strange turn, and seems to twist in all directions, yet is supported by official government documents.

Residents were literally diluged with information that took most off-guard, and having to view the videos to get even half the information that was imparted to them. This is truly understandable, considering the months of stone-walling, and jibber-jabber with no real answers. This is not the case now.

Assumption Parish residents listened to presentations from state officials for two and a half hours Wednesday night. They heard detailed presentations about seismic imaging, road detour contingencies, and vent flaring.

But for people from Bayou Corne, none of those details touched on the important issue.

The Advocate has a really good article today examining studies done prior to the Oxy3 collapse and they mention the Sandia article discussed in post 138 here:

It turns out that the article cited in post #138 is available for public distribution. There isn't much more detail about what happened, but the diagram indicates that it was a Texas Brine cavern:

Here's a dome map. I think the currently collapsing Oxy3 is the one I circled in red, and Oxy1 is the one I circled in purple:
(Hooker 6,7,8 got renamed to Vulcan 1,2,3 at some point...which is also called Oxy 1,2,3 now, I'm assuming)

Oxy3 is the westernmost brine well (BW) on the dome at the point that map was made, but in 1987 on page 33 in this document, Texas Brine says Hooker 6 was the only well in that westernmost area that had encountered an 'anomaly' - shale. (There is more on that on page 75.)

That doesn't agree with the 1997 article by Sandia scientists, since Hooker 6 is a little east of Hooker 8, (a.k.a. Vulcan/Oxy3). So I'm still unsure about which of those two caverns had some sort of incident prior to 1997.

It's worth reading the whole Advocate article, (good quotes from scientists in there), but I think it settles the question of what cavern Sandia was referring to in the 1995/1997 article - it was NOT the currently collapsing Oxy3. Oxy3/Hooker8 was mined after Oxy1/Hooker6, which sounds like the one described as the westernmost cavern (at the time) that was believed to have pierced through the side of the dome and rested against the supportive shale sheath.

So the question in my mind then was why mine a later cavern even further east??? This was the explanation:

"Cartwright added that Texas Brine officials initially believed they had drilled out of the salt dome and took steps to safely create the cavern above the shale. However, later testing proved Texas Brine never went through the edge of the salt formation, he said."

The Office of Conservation is advising the public that a large ?burp? event was recorded at the sinkhole shortly after 3 a.m on the morning of Sunday, March 17, related to the recent period of elevated deep seismic activity around the failed Oxy 3 cavern and the sinkhole. As has happened in past events, such as the period of elevated seismic activity that preceded the Jan. 19 ?burp? event, the recent period of elevated activity was observed for several days prior to a sinkhole event. Though the deep subsurface activity appears to have calmed significantly, Conservation?s contracted experts continue to note shallower seismic activity likely related to slumping of the sinkhole sides and water movement in the sinkhole and immediately below it. Monitoring is constantly ongoing in the area and Conservation will advise the public of significant changes in subsurface conditions.

Louisiana officials are grappling with a giant sinkhole that's threatening a neighborhood. A salt mine collapsed last year, creating a series of problems regulators say they've never seen before, including tremors and oil and gas leaks and a sinkhole that now covers 9 acres.

Residents have been evacuated for more than seven months now and are losing patience.

Ernie Boudreaux lives in a trailer on Jambalaya Street in Bayou Corne, La. Strange things have been happening to his home, he says.

"It cracks. You can hear it. The doors pop open by themselves," Boudreaux says.

The front porch is separating from the trailer and sometimes he smells oil ? all problems that started after the sinkhole opened less than a half mile from his house. His neighborhood is under a mandatory evacuation, but Boudreaux comes back a few days a week to care for his dog, Diesel...

The Office of Conservation is advising the public that the Oxy 3/sinkhole monitoring alert status has been lowered back to Code 1 ? allowing work inside and around the sinkhole to resume. The rate of subsurface activity being detected by seismic monitoring is reduced in the area around the sinkhole and Oxy 3 area, and the waters of the sinkhole have not shown further signs of movement at surface. Monitoring is constantly ongoing in the area and Conservation will advise the public of significant changes in subsurface conditions. The public is also being advised that the 3D seismic work is planned for Sunday, March 24, involving the use of boat-mounted pneumatic equipment on the waters of the sinkhole to generate the seismic signals used to help assess the status of the disturbed rock zone near and below the sinkhole.

March 25, 2013
The Office of Conservation is advising the public that the Texas Brine is beginning work on the well pad shared by the Oxy 3A and Oxy 9 wellheads in preparation for moving in a snubbing unit to re-enter the Oxy 3A wellbore and clear out blockage currently preventing direct access to the original Oxy 3 cavern. The snubbing unit is designed to provide maximum pressure control in the wellbore to ensure safety of the public and of workers on site. Contractors will be placing wooden mats on the site, as well as moving some of the equipment already stationed on site to make room for the snubbing unit, expected to be moved on site within the next week.

The Office of Conservation, in consultation with Assumption Parish Incident Command, is advising the public that a slough-in occurred last night along the southeastern side of the sinkhole ? approximately 25 trees fell into the sinkhole along the southeastern side and a new crack, running parallel to the sinkhole edge, was observed on the Oxy 3 well pad access ramp to the sinkhole. Experts with Conservation and CB&I believe the slough-in event is linked to the period of elevated subsurface fluid and gas movement detected late last week in the area around the sinkhole and Oxy 3, as has been observed in previous similar events. At this time, the Oxy3/sinkhole monitoring alert status remains at Code 1, allowing work around the sinkhole to continue, as the slough-in appears to be related to the earlier subsurface activity ? however, monitoring is constantly ongoing in the area and Conservation will advise the public of significant changes in subsurface conditions.

March 28, 2013
The Office of Conservation, in consultation with Assumption Parish Incident Command, is advising the public that the Oxy 3/sinkhole monitoring alert status has been raised to Code 2 ? requiring all work directly in and over the sinkhole to cease until further notice. BAYOU CORNE, LA (WAFB) -

Contractors reported finding the presence of gas under two homes near the massive sinkhole in southeast Louisiana...

The homes were on Sauce Piquante Lane. I think this is the location shown on this map. (Pre-sinkhole satellite view.) That would be
north of La-70, an area suffering most from tremors and odors from reports I've read.

A wonderful organization, On Wings of Care, that uses aviation for humanitarian purposes, has been
flying over the area and their latest set of of videos has the best documentation of the proximity of the community
and highway to the sinkhole that I have seen.

Since there are residents who have evacuated but occasionally return home to check on pets and do work on their property, this could be a very dangerous situation. A technician with our local gas company told me that a small leak I had in a gas appliance in the garage would likely not cause a problem if I was frequently opening and closing the door to ventilate the area. But if I were to take a short trip and come back - the gas could have accumulated to explosive levels by then.

Seismic analysts are also advising members of the public following the seismic monitoring data online that the ?LA 10? monitor has been picking up echoes of yesterday?s Pacific Ocean 7.2-magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Japan, but these signals do not indicate any impact to subsurface stability in the Bayou Corne area. Monitoring is constantly ongoing in the area and Conservation will advise the public of significant changes in subsurface conditions.

Here is the explanation of the code levels:

Code 1: Minimal to no seismic activity around/below sinkhole; 10 or fewer of the sharp seismic signals associated with rock movement, called mini-earthquakes (MEQs) or the longer signals associated with gas or liquid movement, called Very Long Periods (VLPs) within 24-hour period; allows work on sinkhole and inside berm area to continue

Texas Brine Co. is building a westward extension of a 1.5-mile containment berm encircling the Assumption Parish sinkhole because a 200-foot stretch of the earthen wall is sinking, authorities said Friday.
