WHO Program Executive Director Michael Ryan noted that the disease was most likely not correctly diagnosed.

The World Health Organization believes that the outbreak of pneumonia that has been observed in Kazakhstan in recent days is probably a coronavirus infection, zakon.kz reports.

Ryan assured that WHO is working with the Kazakh authorities to study this issue in detail. The quality of testing at CVI is now being checked to ensure that the results were not falsely negative.

The government commission tasked with preventing the outbreak of the new coronavirus pandemic in Kazakhstan said it had recorded 1,158 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection, bringing the total in the Central Asian country to 93,820.

According to the same source, deaths due to COVID-19 increased by 265 from July 27 to August 2 and have now reached 1,058. In contrast, 65,132 people have recovered, 2,621 in the past 24 hours.

In Kazakhstan, of the 18.7 million people, 2,113,795 tests have been performed by the health authorities to date, with the infection rate among those examined being 4.4%.
