ALMATY, May 27 (Reuters) - Kazakhstan has no plans to shut down oil production at its biggest oilfield, Tengiz, despite the novel coronavirus outbreak among its workers, the Central Asian nation’s energy minister said on Wednesday.

Kazakhstan’s chief sanitary doctor said last week the field’s operator, Chevron-led Tengizchevroil, might have to suspend operations if a plan to curb the spread of the virus at the site fails.

KAZINFORM – Almost 200 new cases of the coronavirus infection have been registered in Kazakhstan over the past 24 hours, taking the total number to 12,511 across the country, Kazinform has learnt from coronavirus2020.kz. 199 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the cities and regions of the country, including 37 cases in Nur-Sultan city, 33 cases in Karaganda region, 31 cases in Almaty city, 15 cases in Aktobe region, 13 cases in Pavlodar region, 11 cases in Atyrau region, 9 cases in East Kazakhstan region, 9 cases in Almaty region, 9 cases in Zhambyl region, 8 cases in West Kazakhstan region, 8 cases in Shymkent city, 4 cases in Mangistau region, 4 cases in Kyzylorda region, 3 cases in Kostanay region, 3 cases in Turkestan region, and 2 cases in Akmola region. 6,903 patients have been discharged from hospital after fully recovering from the coronavirus infection. The novel virus claimed 52 lives in Kazakhstan.

AKIPRESS.COM - 489 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Kazakhstan by the morning of July 1. The growth rate made 2.5%.

The bulk of cases are registered in Almaty - 86 cases, Nur-Sultan - 56 cases, East Kazakhstan region - 52 cases, Karaganda region - 50 cases.

The total number of confirmed cases reached 22,308.

13,008 patients recovered. 188 patients died.

1,115 asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were registered for the past 24 hours. The total number of asymptomatic cases recorded in Kazakhstan since June 3 reached 18,757. These cases are not included into the country's tally of confirmed cases.

Kazakhstan on July 5 became the first nation in the world to re-impose a country-wide lockdown after its easing in mid-May of largely successful measures to counter coronavirus sparked a surge in a two-month lockdown with just a few thousand confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Kazakhstan has reportedly reinstituted a lockdown regime, to last two weeks, in response to a sharp uptick in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases.Kazakh health authorities said on July 6 that the number of coronavirus cases in the country reached 49,683, of which 16,183 people recovered and 264 died.

Shymkent coronavirus tally stands at 3,596 According to the governor, 1,766 beds are available at the region's medical facilities, including 230 at infectious hospitals, 1,346 at temporary hospitals, and 190 at quarantine hospitals. As of today, 76% of the total beds are occupied. The region has a 600-bed temporary hospital on standby. Due to the worsening epidemiological situation in the region, the Mangistau regional hospital has been turned into to a multi-purpose temporary hospital for 650 beds. The region's total number of coronavirus cases is so far 1,672, including 1,140 symptoms-free cases. 664 people have recovered from the COVID-19 virus in the region. The region has also reported the rise in pneumonia cases, with the total pneumonia cases amounting to 1,025 as of today. According to the governor, the region reports 300 new cases of pneumonia on average each day.
