One ward at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe has been closed to visitors due to an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.
The Norovirus outbreak means that visitors will not be permitted to the St Joseph?s Ward until further notice. However, arrangements will be made for family members of critically ill patients and this should be arranged through the nurse on duty in the ward.
The situation is being reviewed on a daily basis and control measures to reduce the risk of Norovirus spreading to other patients and to other areas/departments within the hospital have been put in place.
Beaumont Hospital reports 40 norovirus cases and urges visitors to stay away
Beaumont Hospital in Dublin has urged people to avoid all non-essential visits due to an outbreak of norovirus, commonly called the ?winter vomiting bug?.
The hospital said about 40 patients had symptoms of the virus, which include severe abdominal cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea. Thirteen of these have become ill since Monday.

Vomiting bug alert at Beaumont
Sixteen new cases of the winter vomiting virus have been detected at Dublin's Beaumont hospital today despite attempts to stop the spread of the highly contagious bug.
The norovirus outbreak continues to affect a majority of wards and, at lunchtime today, 53 patients were displaying symptoms, a hospital spokesman said. A total of 22 beds have been closed in affected wards.
Beaumont Hospital can confirm that there is an outbreak of Norovirus (SRSV) in the Hospital.
Beaumont is appealing to the public to refrain from making unnecessary visits.
Only visits which are absolutely essential are allowed and are restricted to two visitors per patient. No children are allowed to visit under any circumstances.
Beaumont Hospital would like to thank members of the public in advance for their cooperation with regard to visiting restrictions.
