The number of confirmed cases in Iraq of the novel coronavirus has risen to 79, the Health Ministry said Wednesday.

In a statement, the ministry said the death toll from the virus had risen to eight.

Last week, Baghdad shut down schools and universities for 10 days and banned travel to virus-hit states as part of its fight against the disease...

Iraq's health authorities confirmed a new death from coronavirus on Saturday, taking the total fatalities in the country to 10.

In a statement, the health directorate in the southern Wasit province said an elderly man died of the virus and his wife had also tested positive for the virus in the town of Sheikh Saad after their recent trip to Iran.

The wife has been hospitalized for medical attention, the directorate said, without giving any more details...

Iraq confirms 110 COVID-19 cases

Iraqi Health Ministry on Saturday confirmed a total of 110 COVID-19 cases across the country including the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan.

The 110 cases include five new cases: three in the Iraqi capital Baghdad and one in the provinces of Karbala and Dhi Qar each, according to a ministry statement.

A total of nine have died from the virus, while 26 have recovered, the statement said...

New 10 coronavirus cases confirmed in country, says Health Ministry

BAGHDAD, Iraq

One new death from coronavirus was reported in Iraq’s southern Basra province, bringing the total fatalities in the country to 12, the Iraqi Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the ministry said that 10 new cases were registered, raising the total number of the coronavirus cases to 164.

Over the past 24 hours, the ministry noted, it conducted tests for 105 suspected cases, among them 10 were tested positive -- including five in the capital Baghdad.

As precautionary measures due to the coronavirus, most of Iraq's governorates decided to close their borders, including Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, while some governorates also decided to impose a lockdown...

BAGHDAD, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Health Ministry on Sunday confirmed three more deaths from COVID-19 and 19 new cases, bringing the total number of the infected to 233.

US orders departure of some gov’t employees from Iraq

BAGHDAD

The U.S. State Department has ordered some U.S. government employees at diplomatic facilities in Iraq to leave the country due to “security conditions and restricted travel options” as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the country’s embassy in Iraq said.

“[…] the State Department has ordered the departure of designated U.S. Government employees at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center, and the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil,” the embassy said in a statement.

It said visa services would remain suspended, adding the U.S. government has also limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Iraq.

The decision came after two Katyusha rockets targeted the Green Zone in Baghdad.

Some Shiite pilgrims returning to Iraq from Syria have tested positive for COVID-19, raising concern that such pilgrim travel could be a source of a larger spread of the disease around the country, a senior Iraqi official and health officials said Sunday.

So far, Iraq has recorded 547 coronavirus cases and 42 deaths, most of them in the past week.
