China – Conversation between M. Jean-Noël Barrot and his counterpart, Mr Wang Yi (3 March 2026)

M. Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, spoke on the telephone yesterday to Mr Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The two ministers discussed the situation in the Middle East.

The [French] Minister recalled the Iranian regime’s responsibility in the ongoing escalation, after it unjustifiably struck several countries in the region. This chaos and terror approach follows its refusal to comply with Security Council resolutions regulating its nuclear programme and ballistic activities and banning support for non-state armed groups, and to enter in good faith into multilateral negotiations on its nuclear programme. The Minister also recalled the scale of the human rights violations committed by the regime in January during the bloody crackdown on public demonstrations.

The Minister added that the military operation by the United States and Israel was conducted without France participating or being informed. He also repeated that it was each country’s responsibility to prioritize international institutions to resolve disagreement and, if necessary, resort to the use of force.

The two ministers agreed on the need to work towards de-escalation, in conjunction with the Gulf countries, and find a path to a political resolution guaranteeing collective security interests and provision for the Iranian people’s aspirations, in the framework set by UN Secretary-General resolutions and international law.

The two ministers agreed to continue their close dialogue on the issue.

[FONT=微软雅黑]On March 3, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, spoke by phone with Israeli Foreign Minister Saar at the latter's request.

After listening to Sa'ar's briefing on Israel's position on the current situation, Wang Yi stated that China has consistently advocated resolving international and regional hotspots through dialogue and consultation. All parties should abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and refrain from using or threatening to use force in international relations, which is also in the fundamental interests of all parties, including Israel. For many years, China has been committed to promoting a political solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. Recent negotiations between Iran and the US have made significant progress, including addressing Israel's security concerns. Regrettably, this process has been interrupted by military action. China opposes any military strikes launched by Israel and the US against Iran. Force cannot truly solve problems; instead, it will bring new problems and serious long-term consequences. The true value of military strength lies not on the battlefield, but in preventing war. China calls for an immediate cessation of military operations to prevent the further escalation and loss of control of the conflict. China has always maintained a fair and impartial stance on the Middle East issue, and we will continue to play a constructive role in promoting de-escalation. Wang Yi requested that Israel take concrete measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions. Sa'ar stated that Israel attaches great importance to and will protect the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions.[/FONT]

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs@MBA_AlThani_Receives Phone Call from Iran's FM@araghchi

Doha | March 4, 2026

HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani has rejected Iranian claims that recent missile attacks were not aimed at Qatar, saying the evidence on the ground showed otherwise.

This came during a phone call HE Sheikh Mohammed received on Wednesday from HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Abbas Araghchi.

Araghchi said the missile strikes were directed at American interests and were not intended to target the Gulf state. Yet, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs "categorically rejected" that assertion, citing the civilian and residential areas inside the country struck by the attacks. He said the areas affected included the vicinity of Hamad International Airport, as well as vital infrastructure and industrial zones, including facilities linked to liquefied natural gas production.

HE Sheikh Mohammed described the strikes as a "flagrant violation" of the State of Qatar's sovereignty and of international law. He added that the attacks were not limited to missiles, but were ongoing through drones, as well as aircraft that had entered Qatari airspace and were intercepted by the country's armed forces.

His Excellency added that these Iranian actions reflected "an escalatory approach" and did not indicate any genuine desire for de-escalation or resolution, accusing Tehran of seeking to harm its neighbors and draw them into a war "that is not theirs".

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs called for an immediate halt to attacks on regional states that have sought to remain outside the conflict, urging all sides to prioritize the broader interests of their peoples.

He stressed that Qatar has consistently favored dialogue and diplomacy, but would respond to any violation of its sovereignty, security or territorial integrity.

His Excellency said such attacks could not go unanswered, citing the country's inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The United Arab Emirates reaffirms that it has not taken any decision to alter its defensive posture in response to the repeated Iranian attacks. The UAE has been subjected to more than one thousand attacks- a number exceeding the total faced by all other targeted countries combined- all of which were intercepted and neutralized by the UAE Armed Forces with the utmost professionalism, efficiency, and distinction.

The UAE reiterates that it is not a party to this war and has not permitted the use of its territory, territorial waters, or airspace for any attack against Iran, consistent with its long-standing policy of good neighborliness, de-escalation, and its firm commitment to the Charter of the United Nations.

Furthermore, the UAE underscores that it retains its legitimate right to self-defense, as recognized under international law and the Charter of the United Nations. The UAE further stresses the importance of journalistic responsibility and the need to rely on official, credible sources before publishing or circulating inaccurate or misleading reports.

TAMPA, Fla. – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is issuing a safety warning to civilians in Iran, March 8, as Iran’s terrorist regime blatantly disregards the safety of innocent people.

The Iranian regime is using heavily populated civilian areas to conduct military operations, including launching one-way attack drones and ballistic missiles. This dangerous decision risks the lives of all civilians in Iran since locations used for military purposes lose protected status and could become legitimate military targets under international law.

Iranian forces are using crowded areas surrounded by civilians in cities such as Dezful, Esfahan and Shiraz to launch attack drones and ballistic missiles.

U.S. forces strongly urge civilians in Iran to stay at home. The Iranian regime is knowingly endangering innocent lives. Additionally, Iranian forces are jeopardizing the safety of innocent people throughout the Middle East by deliberately and indiscriminately targeting civilian airports, hotels, and residential neighborhoods.

“Iran’s terrorist regime is blatantly disregarding civilian lives by attacking Gulf partners while compromising the safety of their own people,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM.

Iran has launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and thousands of one-way attack drones since Feb 28. However, launch rates have drastically declined as U.S. and partner forces decimate Iran’s military capabilities.

The U.S. military takes every feasible precaution to minimize harm to civilians but cannot guarantee civilian safety in or near facilities used by the Iranian regime for military purposes. Unlike the Iranian regime, U.S. forces do not target or intentionally risk the safety of civilians.

@DrTedros

The escalating conflict in the Middle East, and the impact on public health, are of great concern.

Damage to petroleum facilities in [HASHTAG="c2514"]Iran[/HASHTAG] risks contaminating food, water and air – hazards that can have severe health impacts especially on children, older people, and people with pre existing medical conditions.

Rain laden with oil has been reported falling in parts of the country.

In #Lebanon, nine health workers have been killed since 28 February and 16 injured. Additionally, 43 primary health care centres and 5 hospitals have closed due to evacuation orders.

WHO is monitoring the situation in Iran, Lebanon, Iraq and all affected countries closely and supporting local authorities to keep health systems running, protect communities, and reduce health risks.

I urge all parties to de-escalate and prevent further risks to people’s health, impacts on health facilities and workers, a further expansion of the conflict across the region.

Peace is always the best medicine.

Statement from Assistant Secretary Dylan Johnson on Successful Operations to Assist American Citizens in the Middle East

Media Note
Office of the Spokesperson

March 9, 2026

Over 36,000 American citizens have safely returned to the United States from the Middle East since February 28.

Under President Trump and Secretary Rubio’s leadership, the Department of State has completed over two dozen charter flights and has safely evacuated thousands of Americans from the Middle East. While commercial flight availability across the region continues to improve, Department of State charter flight and ground transport operations continue to operate.

At this time, seats available on the Department’s charter options are significantly greater than the demand from Americans in the region. Many Americans continue to depart on commercial options.

Most Americans who have requested assistance have declined assistance when offered, opting either to remain in country or book commercial flight options.

Through the State Department’s 24/7 Task Force, we have directly assisted over 23,000 Americans abroad, offering security guidance and travel assistance.

American citizens in Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Israel in need of travel assistance should complete the Crisis Intake Form.

The State Department will continue to actively assist any American citizen, who wishes to depart the Middle East, to do so.

Americans in the Middle East who need assistance can call the U.S. Department of State, 24/7, at +1-202-501-4444.

Joint statement from the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan on the Strait of Hormuz: 19 March 2026

Joint statement from the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan on the Strait of Hormuz.

From: Prime Minister's Office, 10 Downing Street and The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer KCB KC MP

Published 19 March 2026

s300_number10.jpg

We condemn in the strongest terms recent attacks by Iran on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, attacks on civilian infrastructure including oil and gas installations, and the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces.

We express our deep concern about the escalating conflict. We call on Iran to cease immediately its threats, laying of mines, drone and missile attacks and other attempts to block the Strait to commercial shipping, and to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

Freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of international law, including under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The effects of Iran’s actions will be felt by people in all parts of the world, especially the most vulnerable.

Consistent with UNSC Resolution 2817, we emphasise that such interference with international shipping and the disruption of global energy supply chains constitute a threat to international peace and security. In this regard, we call for an immediate comprehensive moratorium on attacks on civilian infrastructure, including oil and gas installations.

We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait. We welcome the commitment of nations who are engaging in preparatory planning.

We welcome the International Energy Agency decision to authorise a coordinated release of strategic petroleum reserves. We will take other steps to stabilise energy markets, including working with certain producing nations to increase output.

We will also work to provide support for the most affected nations, including through the United Nations and the IFIs.

Maritime security and freedom of navigation benefit all countries. We call on all states to respect international law and uphold the fundamental principles of international prosperity and security.
