KOTTAYAM: A 42-year-old man died of suspected sun stroke in Kallara in the district today, police said.

Sabu from Mundar in Kaduthuruthy was fishing in a stream when he suddenly collapsed and died on the spot around noon, they said.

His body had burn marks indicating he suffered heat stroke, police said, adding the exact cause of the death could be ascertained only after postmortem.

Indian Meteorological Department said in the weather bulletin that there has been a fall in the maximum temperature.

Hyderabad: Heat-related deaths in Telangana mounted to 249 after reports of fresh casualties, the State Disaster Management Department said on Friday.

"Till today, we have reports that 249 persons have died due to heat-related ailments. All these deaths were confirmed by the three-member committees in the districts," an official in the disaster management control room said.

At the beginning of April, as temperatures soared in Telangana, the state government released a report saying that 66 people had died because of the heat wave. Two weeks later, it backtracked, pegging the number at just 19 instead.

The government?s explanation was reasonable. The numbers reported initially were based on reports in newspapers and gathered from villages and towns to the office of the mandal, as tehsils are referred to in Telangana.

While the sunstroke deaths confirmed by the state government remained the same at 16, the number of alleged heat-related deaths increased by 2 to 168, Special Relief Commission's (SRC) office said.

HYDERABAD, May 16 (PTI): As many as 300 heat-related deaths have been reported in Telangana since the beginning of the summer season this year, state disaster management department said today.
?These deaths were confirmed by the three-member committee (set up by the state government to assess cases of deaths related to heat). Nalgonda district tops the chart with 90 deaths followed by Mahbubnagar with 44,? an official in the disaster management control room said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its bulletin said there was marked fall in maximum temperatures at one or two places over Telangana.

One more heat-related death in Odisha

One more sunstroke casualty was reported on Tuesday in Odisha taking the official toll to 17 as several parts of the country continued to reel under heat wave with Sriganganagar in Rajasthan scorching at 45.8 degrees Celsius.

The victim in in Odisha hailed from Balasore. The number of deaths suspected to be from heat stroke, however, increased to 174 from 171 on Monday, the Special Relief Commissioner?s (SRC) office said.

Officials said out of the 174 deaths, 92 have been probed in which it was found that 75 died of other reasons. Rest 82 cases are still to be examined.

Changes in weather not withstanding, the State continues to report an increasing number of deaths from heat.

Most of the 309 deaths occurred in April when maximum temperatures breached record highs across the State. Mahabubnagar reported 44 deaths. Hyderabad has not confirmed any deaths, though the district has reported nine suspected cases. Nalgonda has confirmed 91 cases, more than other districts.

Severe heat wave in Gujarat has claimed one more life, taking the toll to nine in the State. On Wednesday, a 50-year-old unidentified person died in Rajkot due to heatstroke as most parts of the state witnessed above 47 degree Celsius temperature.

Earlier, five persons in Kutch, two in Ahmedabad and one in Bhavnagar died of heatstroke while more than 500 people from across the State were admitted in various hospitals.

According to the MeT office, the hottest region in Odisha was spotted as the wester region in Sonepur.

With another death due to sunstroke reported on Wednesday, the toll in Odisha has mounted to 19 even as the mercury dipped in many areas providing much-needed respite from intense heat in the state.

A report from Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office said death toll due to sunstroke increased to 19 following a death reported from Balasore district, while the number of alleged deaths due to heat related incidents increased to 191 from 188.

Ahmedabad: Billboards put up by civic authorities suggesting ways to avoid heat-related emergencies seem to have had little impact, as two more lives succumbed to heatstroke here on Saturday. With this, the death toll from heatstrokes reached 25 in Gujarat, with the state reeling under extreme heat conditions over a week.
A 53-year-old woman from Gomtipur area, Noorjahan Bano Mohammed Qureshi, who was hospitalized in AMC-run Shardaben hospital in Saraspur on May 19, died on Saturday. Doctors said she had suffered a heatstroke before being hospitalized in a critical condition, and failed to improve.
In a separate case, a 45-year-old man, who was hospitalized after suffering a heatstroke in AMC-run VS hospital on Friday, succumbed to his illness late on Friday night, said a statement by the civic body, adding that 64 patients suffering from heat-related ailments are currently hospitalized in various public hospitals.

The searing heat wave sweeping across the district has claimed more than 10 lives in the past two days.

Nine persons perished on Tuesday affected by the impact of intense heat wave conditions.

A 40-year-old person hailing from Nepal died at Mustafanagar in the town. More sun-stroke related deaths were reported from various parts of the district including Madhira, Kalluru, Penuballi and Bayyaram mandals on Wednesday.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Heat wave conditions have claimed at least 11 lives in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours as the mercury levels shot up again coinciding with Rohini Karthi, traditionally the hottest fortnight of the summer, which began on Wednesday.

Complaints of sunstroke were reported at many hospitals around the state with people wincing to face the next 15 days. About 35 patients were admitted to the Government General Hospital at Eluru on Wednesday alone.

50-year-old found dead, heat stroke likely cause

Bhopal: A 50-year-old man was found dead close to a water kiosk on 80-feet wide road on Thursday morning. A case was registered at Aishbagh police station. Identity of dead is yet to be ascertained. Police said it appears he died of heat stroke. There were injury marks on body. The exact cause of death will get clear in autopsy report. It is fifth suspected death due to heat stroke in the city.

Man dies of suspected heat stroke

Bhopal: A 53-year-old man died in GTB complex here on Sunday morning. A case was later registered at TT Nagar police station. It is seventh suspected death due to heat stroke in the city. Police said deceased has been identified as Dilip Rathore. He would sleep on a bank's footpath in GTB complex. Cops said he was unwell for past few days. He got up in the morning on Sunday, but soon fell unconscious. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead, cops added.
