There is a video report at the source above that is worth watching. It perpetuates the myth that Japanese Encephalitis is the major problem in Uttar Pradesh. Japanese Encephalitis is playing a part in the outbreaks in UP, but up to September 6th, of 1,148 samples tested, only 58 came back positive for JE. It is suspected that much of the encephalitis is caused by enteroviruses introduced through contaminated water. There is no vaccine available for this, but updated water infrastructure could vastly improve the situation. To focus solely on JE vaccination will not solve the problem.

Again, to the best of my knowledge - very little confirmed Japanese Encephalitis this year - perhaps 3-5%. Most of the fatalities are termed Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and no-one really knows for sure what causes it. - Ro

Additional Director of Health Department (Gorakhpur division) Diwakar Prasad today said the recent deaths were reported from one each in Gorakhpur, Deoria and Kushinagar areas. Since January 1 this year, 2320 patients were admitted to hospital, of whom 351 died, while as many as 375 others were still convalescing. In the past 24 hrs, 39 new cases have come to fore. Of the deceased, 25 hailed from Bihar, while two belonged to Nepal.

According to health department sources, 39 children in extremely critical condition are battling for life in government hospitals and Baba Raghav Das Medical College, Gorakhpur.

Additional director, health, Diwakar Prasad, told TOI that the victim children hailed from Gorakhpur, Deoria and Kushinagar districts. "Since January, as many as 2,341 children have fallen prey to encephalitis in our division. This includes children from Bihar border and Nepal as well," Prasad told TOI.

Gorakhpur: deaths from encephalitis in Purvanchal continues. Medical College in the last twenty-four hours of innocents killed and twenty three new patients were admitted.

Toll due to vector-borne Japanese Encephalitis disease today reached 375, following the death of three more children in Uttar Pradesh. Additional Director of Health department (Gorakhpur division) Diwakar Prasad said the deaths were reported from one each in Gorakhpur, Mehrajganj and Kushinagar. Since January 1 this year, 2436 patients were admitted to hospital, of whom 375 died, while as many as 330 others were still convalescing. In the last 24 hrs, 30 new JE cases have come to fore. Of the deceased, 34 hailed from Bihar, while two belonged to Nepal. The mosquito-borne JE mostly affects the children and have claimed several lives in the past few years. UNI JAS SW NS1745 NNNN

Three of encephalitis and death, 47 new patients admitted

Gorakhpur: Encephalitis in Purvanchal and deaths continues to recruit patients. BRD Medical College in the past two days, three innocents were killed while 47 new patients were admitted. Nehru 272 patients are being treated in hospital.
The three people died and three of them Imran Gorakhpur, Kushinagar two years including actors Rishi and Mhrajagganj a year. Fifteen of those recruited most of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria and Sntkbirnagr seven - seven, four of Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar and Bihar, two - two and Ballia, Basti and Mou - a patient waiting. Since January this year, a total of 1824 patients admitted to the Medical College of whom 349 have died.
