Basirhat District Hospital Superintendent Shyam Haldar said the common people need to be aware of mosquitoes.

The Chief Minister himself said in the Legislative Assembly on Friday that the dengue situation in the state was in dire shape. However, the chief minister also blamed Bangladesh's epidemic for increasing the number of dengue cases in the state. Mamata said dengue has taken shape in Bangladesh. The maximum number of dengue cases is highest in Bangaon, Habra, in north and south 24 parganas adjacent to the border area. So far, the number of dengue deaths in the state has dropped to six. Then, yesterday and today, there were two more deaths in the state.

A prominent corporate hospital in Hyderabad has issued a death certificate, stating that a 35-year-old man has died due to ‘Dengue hemorrhagic fever with shock, severe metabolic acidosis’. However, officials from the State Health Department said that they have to conduct death audit before concluding it as death caused by dengue.

Though many suspected dengue deaths came to the notice of Telangana Health Department officials, they stated that no dengue death has been reported in the State. A total of 3,670 dengue cases were detected from January 1 to September 8. However, not even a single death was registered in the official records.

Officials earlier said that if a dengue patient suffered from any co-morbid condition such as hypertension, or if Rapid Diagnosis Test is conducted to confirm dengue instead of MAC-ELISA test, and the patient dies, they do not declare it as a dengue death.

Kommu Krishnaiah, a 55-year-old man from Shanti Nagar, succumbed to dengue fever on Wednesday, September 11, at the Khammam government hospital. He was admitted to the healthcare facility with a high fever a few days ago, The Hans India reported.

On Tuesday, September 10, dengue fever killed a 35-year-old man at Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad. Hospital authorities declared the cause of death of Praveen Kumar Beku, a resident of Quthbullpur, as haemorrhagic fever shock syndrome.

Telangana has been plagued with the dengue fever for the past two months. Two more fatal cases have been reported due to the mosquito-borne disease. The death toll has gone up to 56 this year so far as authorities grapple to find ways to combat the deadly fever.

Dengue is transmitted mainly by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which thrives in densely populated tropical climates and breed in stagnant pools of water. The mosquitoes pick up the virus from infected humans ? even asymptomatic ones ? and pass it along to other people through bites. It is dubbed as the ?break-bone fever? and is one of the world?s leading mosquito-borne illnesses and infects as many as 100 million people annually.

TOI reported that according to the government, all these deaths have been put under a list of 'suspected dengue deaths' and is being re-verified by an audit team. But the health department has admitted that there was a spurt in the spread of the virus since June 1, with 10,876 dengue cases reported from across the state.

On Friday, a 27-year-old woman from Sinhagad Road died of multi-organ failure due to dengue shock syndrome at a city hospital. While the hospital authorities confirmed that the death was dengue-related, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stated that there were five deaths they suspected were caused by dengue this year.

Dr Dhananjay Kelkar, medical director of the hospital where the woman died, said every year there are at least three to four deaths due to dengue. This year too, there were more than 500 cases of dengue and few related deaths.

New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI) Nearly 50 fresh cases of dengue have been reported in the national capital over the last one week, taking the total number of people affected by the vector-borne disease to 217, according to a municipal report released on Monday.
The number of malaria cases recorded till September 21 stands at 304, it said.
As many as 150 malaria cases were recorded in September, 56 in August, 54 in July, 35 in June, eight in May and one in April.
Of the total 217 dengue cases, 125 were recorded in September, 52 in August, 18 in July, 11 in June, and rest between January and May, according to the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), which tabulates the data on vector-borne diseases in the city.

The number of dengue cases reported in the State this year is the highest compared to the past four years. While around 6,183 cases have been reported from the beginning of January to September 20, the numbers never crossed 5,500 since 2015. This year, a major chunk of the cases are from urban districts of the State ? Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal.

Apart from the State-run hospitals in the city, a few private hospitals are running out of beds to accommodate patients who are detected with dengue.

The official said the majority of the cases has been reported from Dehradun, where so far 3,000 people have been diagnosed, followed by Haldwani with 1,100 cases reported. The CM claimed that only six people have died of the disease in the state so far this year, of which four were in Dehradun and two in Haldwani. Rawat also claimed that none of the deaths had occurred in government hospitals.


The state Health Department, however, had on September 17 put the figure at eight. The CM said he had met dengue patients admitted to government hospitals and they had benefited from the treatment administered at these facilities.

Surya, Thamizhelvan and Parthiban, from Thirunageswaram, next to Kumbakonam, were working in a private company, staying in a hostel in Maramalai Nagar, Chennai. They were diagnosed with dengue symptoms after a sudden fever with the doctor. They were immediately taken to Kumbakonam Government Hospital for treatment. Two more people are admitted with dengue fever.

The health department has also advised the government to treat the dengue fever victims in government hospitals.
