Oct. 12: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today denied that her government was suppressing facts on the spread of dengue in Bengal and blamed "misleading" blood test reports from some private laboratories for the panic that has swept the state.

"I reviewed the situation thoroughly and was informed that there have been 30 dengue deaths, 14 of them in recent months. Compared to Bengal, states like UP, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have reported more deaths caused by dengue," Mamata said after a review meeting at Nabanna, which houses the chief minister's office.

She said statistics - 40 dengue deaths in Tamil Nadu this year, 35 in Kerala, 141 in Lucknow alone and 21 in Delhi - proved that Bengal had controlled the outbreak of the vector-borne disease better than some of these states.

New Delhi: Two more deaths due to dengue were reported in Delhi, taking the toll due to the vector-borne disease this season to five.

Both the deaths were reported from the Delhi government-run Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital in Central Delhi. While one of the patients died in August, the other succumbed in September.

The civic bodies, however, have not acknowledged the two fatalities till now. Over 860 cases of dengue have been reported at LNJP Hospital alone so far, doctors said.

DENGUE SCARE GRIPS HARIDWAR AS HIGH FEVER KILLS 2 LOCALS

Two reported deaths from dengue in a couple of days in Haridwar district have scared the people. They are all the more scared as they are not in a position to repose confidence in the district health department.

The first death occurred as a 30- year- old pharmacist Garima Gupta of Jwalapur, who had been admitted at BHEL hospital on Diwali after she was down with fever, died at Apollo Hospital in Delhi where she was transferred later on Saturday. Her relatives claimed that she died of dengue.

A day after, a middle-aged woman died presumably of dengue at Bandar village in Mangalaur area. She died on Sunday after she was transferred to a higher medical centre from Roorkee civil hospital where she was initially admitted. The villagers claimed that a female teacher from the same village had died of the same disease earlier this month.

However, the district health authorities have not yet confirmed that Dengue has caused the back-to-back deaths.

TIRUPATI: With health officers reporting 25 death could have resulted due to dengue last month, residents and administration from Chittoor district are worries and tense. Apart from dengue, a swine flu and 20 other deaths were recorded this month. The DMHO of Chittoor Ms C. Aruna Sulochana Devi heads a team, which is visiting the fever-effected villages. A door to door survey is being conducted in all the prone villages.

Health department figures reveal that 701 cases of dengue had been detected across the state on Monday. This takes the number of dengue cases across the state to 18,238 since January.

The mosquito-borne disease has claimed as many as 35 lives in the state this year.

GUWAHATI, Oct 23: Dengue is menacing for Assam, especially in Guwahati (M), if the official figures on the impact of the vector-borne disease have anything to go by.
As on October 21, 2017 dengue affected as many as 1,656 people this year, as many as 1,333 in Kamrup (M) alone. Of the five zones in the district, East Zone covering areas like Uzan Bazar, Noonmati, Modhgoria, Kharguli, Satgaon etc., is the worst affected with 574 people suffering from the disease. It is followed by Capital Zone with 383 dengue cases; West Zone comprising Bharalu, Pandu and Jalukbari with 198 cases; South Zone comprising Dhirenpara, Lalmati, Udalbakra etc., with 133 cases; and Sonapur Zone with 110 cases. The zones of 35 of patients have not been identified as yet.
According to statistics made available by NVBDCP and State Health Department sources, so far only two lives were claimed by the vector-borne disease against unofficial sources claiming more deaths. According to NVBDCP sources, dengue patients may die of other reasons and the confirmation of death due to dengue is done by a joint audit committee.

Jadavpur: A Class V student of South Point died of dengue early on Saturday, taking the toll resulting from the mosquito-borne disease in the Calcutta Municipal Corporation area this year to at least eight.

Abirbhab Majumder, 10, died at AMRI Hospitals, Mukundapur, at 3.35am. The death certificate mentioned "severe dengue with multi-organ dysfunction".

Abirbhab was a resident of Pallisree in Bijoygarh, part of ward 98 where a woman had died of dengue on October 7.

Couple dies of ?dengue?

A person died of dengue here on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified Chaman lal (52), a resident of Narottam Nagar. His wife Balwinder Kaur (47), who was getting treatment at a private hospital here, died on October 22.
According to family members, the couple was down with high fever around five days ago and was taken to a private hospital. Later, they were referred to RCF hospital, which further referred them to the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar.
Lakhwinder Singh, a relative of the deceased, said the lab reports of the couple had confirmed them that they were suffering from dengue. He said while Balwinder Kaur died two days ago, her husband was not informed about the death due to his health.
