Bengaluru: An advocate who had fought high-profile cases for the government died of dengue on Thursday, family sources said.

K Janardhan (68), a former deputy director of prosecution, had been admitted to a hospital in Indiranagar with symptoms of dengue a few days ago.

?His blood platelet count fell significantly. He suffered multi-organ failure and died around 2.30 am,? said a source close to the family.
This could be the first dengue death in the city this year, but Dr P Amar of Axon Speciality Hospital nearly said Janardhan had died of complications following a viral fever.

Girl dies of suspected dengue fever in Kasaragod

With onset of monsoon, alarming rise in dengue fever cases in the district

Barely days after the onset of the monsoon season, the district has reported an alarming rise in the number of dengue and viral fever cases and the death of an 11-year-old girl due to suspected dengue fever on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Vaishnavi of Nullipady here. Efforts were under way to identify whether the girl?s death was due to dengue, District Medical Officer A.P. Dinesh Kumar told The Hindu on Thursday.

As many as 322 suspected cases of dengue fever, 42 of them confirmed, had been reported from the district, mainly from the hill hamlets, he said.

Karunya, a Class IV student in a private school in Belur town, was suffering from high fever. She was admitted to a private hospital in Hassan earlier this week.

Dengue assumes epidemic proportions at Puthupady

At any given point in time, the area has 40 proven cases.

Even as mosquito control measures are on across the district to prevent the spread of dengue and malaria, the dengue situation has touched epidemic proportions at Puthupady, a rural area, State Epidemiologist A. Sukumaran told The Hindu on Tuesday.

Dr. Sukumaran visited Puthupady after the area reported the death of a man owing to dengue shock syndrome, and a steady stream of more dengue positive cases.

JAGATSINGHPUR: THE deadly sting of dengue has made a re-appearance in rural Jagatsinghpur district claiming one life on Sunday.

Sources said Dillip Das (30) of Alasudha village under Jagatsinghpur police limits worked in a private company in Cuttack. About three days back, he returned home from work with high fever. As his condition became serious, family members admitted him in a private hospital in Cuttack where he died on Sunday.

District Malaria Officer Manbhajan Satpathy said his office has not received any dengue death report so far. There is no provision to track dengue cases in private hospitals. Many private hospitals do not have ELISA test facility to confirm dengue.

District Disease Surveillance Officer says that incidence of dengue is reducing

Though 40 cases of dengue have been registered since June 17, Health Department officials are saying that the numbers are on a downward trend. While 225 positive cases of dengue were reported till June 17, the number increased to 261 cases between then and June 27.

The number of cases of suspected dengue deaths rose to six.

Dengue cases have seen a sharp rise in Dakshina Kannada and other parts of the State since the first week of June, with the onset of monsoon.

One more person succumbed to dengue fever in the district on Monday. Sibi Chacko, 33, residing at Eettachakkal at Kottodi in Kallar village, died at a hospital in Mangaluru, family sources said.

Man?s death yet to be confirmed as dengue case

While cases showing typical symptoms of dengue keep surfacing in Puthupady, Kodenchery and Mukhom, the public Health department said the death of 52-year-old Antony at Chippilithode under Kodenchery panchayat on Sunday was yet to be confirmed as a case of dengue.

?We are yet to receive any form of confirmation that he had been suffering from dengue and that the death was caused by the disease,? District Medical Officer R.L. Saritha said on Monday.

Of the three deaths reported in the Puthupady-Kodencherry belt so far, Health officials confirmed only one ? that of a 54-year-old pastor at Puthupady last month.
