Dengue starts to sting Ludhiana
Shariq Majeed, TNN | Jul 7, 2012, 05.21AM IST

LUDHIANA: While Ludhianavis are waiting for monsoon to set in, vector-borne diseases have already started marking a presence in the city. An Army jawan, suspected to be suffering from dengue, died at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) while another unidentified dengue suspect, who later tested negative for the disease, died at Civil Hospital here. On Wednesday too, another suspected case of dengue was received by the DMCH. The scenario clearly indicates that the mosquito menace seems to be growing in city, but the health department's efforts to prevent monsoon diseases apparently are reaching nowhere.

Dengue reportedly claimed its first victim in Kolkata this monsoon as Susmita Malakar, a housewife, died at a private hospital in Jadavpur on Sunday evening. Susmita?s death triggered a controversy as the hospital authorities claimed that dengue took her life while the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) denied it.
The 40-year-old woman from Sapuipara under ward no. 114 in Garfa was suffering from high fever since July 19, according to her family. On Sunday, blood started oozing out of her mouth. Without taking any chance, Susmita?s family admitted her at KPC Medical College and Hospital.

Dengue claims one more life

Positive cases should be confirmed only by sentinel laboratories: BBMP
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) might cry itself hoarse denying a dengue outbreak in the city.

But the numbers prove otherwise. The latest casualty is four-year-old Milan, from Kalyannagar, who died in a private hospital near Coles Park.

Though the BBMP claims that only 134 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported so far of which one has died, hospitals in the city give a different picture.

Though unofficial figures have not been collated, it is clear that many more people have been infected by the dengue virus.

Sixteen-year-old Shruthi from Attibele succumbed to the virus on Monday.

This is apart from the three deaths reported in the last four days. Scores of people are testing positive for the mosquito-borne disease every day in various hospitals. Yet the BBMP is strenuously denying dengue?s spread.

BBMP trying to hush up deaths
July 31, 2012 DC Bengaluru

Around eight people have died and over 200 are suffering from dengue fever as the BBMP has failed to keep mosquitoes under control in the city. What is worse is that the BBMP is not willing to face facts and may even be fudging the figures of positive cases and deaths. It has already expressed annoyance with private hospitals for declaring that deaths are due to dengue.

Aftab Alam, a resident of Nagawara was admitted to a hospital for treatment. His report states clearly that he was suffering from dengue fever and had a low platelet count. He did not respond to the treatment and died on Saturday. The BBMP allegedly persuaded the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Hospital authorities to issue another report stating that his was not a dengue death.

The BBMP claims the deaths are due to multiple-organ failure, refusing to acknowledge what caused the organs to fail.
