Last week, the death toll stood at eight, but on 23 December, Monday, another person died of an unknown disease, taking the number of deaths to 9.

The latest casualty due to this disease was 22-year-old Razeem Akhter, who was five months pregnant and had already lost three of her children—Ashfaq (12), Ishtiyaq (7), and Nazia (5)—to the same unknown disease. Akhter was first taken to the local hospital in Kotranka when her condition worsened, but later, she was shifted to the Government Hospital in Rajouri, where she succumbed on Monday. A post-mortem examination has been conducted to know the cause of her death.

What do we know?
Following the initial deaths on December 8, the investigation has confirmed that the disease was not food poisoning, despite initial concerns about it. Experts are currently investigating alternative causes of the illness instead. With seven deaths from one family and two from another, the disease has primarily impacted two families in the village.

In response to the growing number of cases, a biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) mobile laboratory has been sent to Rajouri to speed up the testing and help determine the cause of the illness. A central team of experts has also been deployed to assist the local authorities in investigating the situation....

...and experts suspect the deaths to be due to toxins.

..... In the last 16 days, nine people including seven children from two families of Baddal village have died so far. Among these, there were three people who reached the hospitals in a stable condition, but after a few days their health suddenly deteriorated and they died. It is being told that the nervous system of these three was attacked and they slowly went into coma after becoming unconscious. .....

If we look at the events so far, on 8 December, four people including three children of a family died after their health deteriorated after eating wedding food in Baddal village. The father of these children was also among them. On the same day, 4-year-old Iftar Ahmed, the only survivor of this family, was admitted to SMGS Hospital in Jammu.

He was given first aid and according to the doctors' claim, he was completely healthy. Not only this, his caretakers kept roaming around with him in the hospital. But after a few days, his condition suddenly deteriorated. He went unconscious and died on 12 December. On 12 December, 12-year-old Ishfaq Ahmed from another family from Baddal village, who suddenly fell ill under mysterious circumstances, was admitted to SMGS Jammu.
:tiphat:Doesn't say if he was at the wedding or ate the same food or source.

..Initially, the doctors were saying that the condition of this child was stable. But gradually his condition deteriorated and after receiving treatment in the hospital for seven days, he also died. According to sources, the MRI report showed infection in his brain and spinal cord, due to which no medicine worked on him.

In the new case, Ishfaq's mother Rajim Akhtar died of a mysterious illness. She was kept in Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri as a precaution. But after the death of her third child, she went home. She was completely healthy while being admitted in GMC Rajouri for six days. Last Sunday, she suddenly started having problems in defecation.

......According to sources, in all these deaths, the nervous system of the deceased has been attacked. In this, the deceased have complained of being unconscious and lethargic in the last time. Toxin can be the reason for the deaths, if it was a virus, others would also have been ill - Expert Doctor No official is saying anything in the cases of mysterious deaths in Baddal.

An expert senior doctor of GMC Jammu said that toxin can be the reason behind these deaths. In which it is suspected that some poisonous bacteria entered the human body through some food item, water etc., which later caused deaths.

If there was any complaint of virus, then the medical staff of the hospitals where the deceased went or other people who came in contact with them should have shown some symptoms, but this has not been seen. Only the above two families have been affected so far.
