The latest surveillance data showed that the overall influenza activity (including seasonal influenza and human swine influenza (HSI)) in week 30 (July 18 to 24, 2010) continues to increase. The number of influenza isolates detected by Public Health Laboratory Centre had increased from 98 in week 29 to 125 in week 30. The number of influenza-like illness (ILI) outbreak increased from 1 in week 29 to 7 in week 30. In addition, the consultation rate (per 1,000) for ILI among private doctors also increased from 40.1 in week 29 to 51.5 in week 30.

For the first 4 days of week 31, 2010 (July 25 to 28, 2010), there was one severe HSI case recorded.The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) has recorded a total of 286 severe HSI cases since May 1, 2009. Her sample was tested positive for human swine influenza. She is now in critical condition.
