बीड - जिल्हा रूग्णालयात रविवारी (ता.1) एका स्वाईन फ्लू पॉझिटिव्ह मुलीचा मृत्यू झाला. आता स्वाईन फ्लूने दोघींचा बळी घेतला असून आतापर्यंत पॉझिटिव्ह रूग्णांची संख्या 31 झाली आहे.

महिनाभरापासून जिल्हाभरात स्वाईन फ्लूचे रूग्ण आढळून येत आहेत. या रूग्णांपैकी आतापर्यंत दोघींचा मृत्यू झाला आहे. तर इतर 27 रूग्ण यशस्वी उपचार घेऊन घरी परतले आहेत. तर आणखी दोघांना आज सुट्टी होणार असल्याचे डॉ.जाधव यांनी सांगितले. जिल्हा रूग्णालयाने स्वाईन फ्लू साठी स्वतंत्र कक्ष स्थापन केलेला आहे. या मुलीला स्वाईन फ्लू संबंधित उपचार गेल्या चार दिवसांपासून सुरू होते. आता जिल्हा रूग्णालयात फक्त दोनच रूग्ण उपचार घेत आहेत. यांनाही आज सुट्टी होणार आहे.

मुलीचा मृत्यू हृदयरोगाने - डॉ. जाधव
मृत्यू झालेल्या मुलीला मागील पाच वर्षांपासून हृदयरोगाचा त्रास होता. तिचे वाल निकामी झाले होते, शिवाय फुफ्फुसात पाणीही झाले होते. त्यामुळे तिचा मृत्यू झाला असण्याची दाट शक्*यता आहे. कारण स्वाईन फ्लूचा पूर्ण उपचार तिच्यावर करण्यात आला होता. शिवाय तिला विशेष कक्षातून साधारण कक्षात दाखल करण्यात आले होते. हृदयरोग आणि स्वाईन फ्लू यात तिच्या आजाराचे प्रमाण अधूनमधून कमी जास्त होत होते, असे निवासी वैद्यकीय अधिकारी डॉ. जाधव यांनी सांगितले.

नांदेड - यवतमाळ जिल्ह्यातील चौंडी (ता. पुसद) येथील कविता संदीप मालकर (वय 20) या महिलेचा मंगळवारी (ता.3) येथील गुरू गोविंदसिंग शासकीय रुग्णालयात स्वाइन फ्लूने मृत्यू झाला. सदर महिला आठ महिन्यांची गरोदर होती. मागील वर्षभरात स्वाइन फ्लूने आठ जणांचा बळी घेतला आहे. परंतु यापैकी एक वगळता इतर सातही जण अन्य जिल्ह्यांतून येथील शासकीय रुग्णालयात उपचार घेण्यासाठी गंभीर अवस्थेत येथे आले होते.

सदर महिलेस ता. 25 जुलै रोजी स्वाइन फ्लूची लागण झाली होती. तिने प्रथम स्थानिक आरोग्य केंद्रात उपचार घेतल्यानंतर ता. 31 जुलै रोजी नांदेड येथील आधार हॉस्पिटल येथेही महिला उपचारास आली. आधार हॉस्पिटलच्या डॉक्*टरांनी त्याच दिवशी तिला जिल्हा शासकीय रुग्णालयाकडे पाठविले. त्या वेळी तिची प्रकृती अत्यंत खालावलेली असल्याने या महिलेला व्हेंटिलेटरवर ठेवून उपचार सुरू करण्यात आले. तिचा स्वॅब परीक्षणासाठी ता. एक ऑगस्ट रोजी पाठविण्यात आला. मात्र सायंकाळी तिचा मृत्यू झाला. ता. दोन ऑगस्ट रोजी रात्री प्राप्त झालेल्या स्वॅब टेस्टच्या अहवालानुसार तिला स्वाइन फ्लू असल्याचे निष्पन्न झाले.

मागील वर्षी दिवाळीच्या सुमारास स्वाइन फ्लूचा उद्रेक झाला होता. पुणे येथे प्रथम लागण झाल्यानंतर त्याचे लोण सगळीकडे पसरू लागले. पण, येथील जिल्हा प्रशासनाने याबाबत कमालीची दक्षता घेतल्याने नांदेड जिल्ह्यात त्याचा प्रसार झाला नाही. शिक्षण व अन्य व्यावसायिक कामानिमित्त पुणे येथे असलेले नागरिक जेव्हा आपापल्या जिल्ह्यात परतू लागले तेव्हा मात्र राज्याच्या अन्य भागातही स्वाइन फ्लूचे रुग्ण आढळू लागले.

स्वाइन फ्लूपासून गर्भवती महिला आणि लहान मुलांना जास्त धोका असल्याने विशेष काळजी घ्यावी. तसेच शाळेतील एखाद्या मुलास ताप, खोकला, सर्दी असल्यास शिक्षकांनी विशेष लक्ष देऊन त्यास त्वरित तपासणी करण्याची सूचना करावी व विश्रांतीचा सल्ला द्यावा, असे आवाहन जिल्हा प्रशासनातर्फे करण्यात आले आहे.

स्वाइन फ्लूचे सध्या चार रुग्ण
सावधगिरी म्हणून नांदेड येथील शासकीय रुग्णालयात स्वाइन फ्लूच्या रुग्णांवरील उपचारासाठी मागील वर्षभरापासून स्वतंत्र कक्ष उघडण्यात आला आहे. चालू आर्थिक वर्षात आजपर्यंत एक हजार 755 रुग्णांची तपासणी करण्यात आली. त्यापैकी 127 रुग्ण स्वाइन फ्लूचे पॉझिटिव्ह असल्याचे निष्पन्न झाले आहे. उपचारानंतर त्यांच्या प्रकृतीत सुधारणा झाली. सध्या चार रुग्ण उपचार घेत आहेत.

पुणे - 'स्वाइन फ्लू'ने पुण्यातील 301वा बळी मंगळवारी घेतला. आज आणखी दोन रुग्णांचा मृत्यू झाला.

एक वर्षापूर्वी 3 ऑगस्टला "स्वाइन फ्लू'चा देशातील पहिला मृत्यू पुण्यात झाला. त्यानंतर या रोगाच्या साथीच्या उद्रेकाचे गांभीर्य प्रशासनाला समजले. त्यानंतर या रोगाच्या साथीवर नियंत्रण ठेवण्याचे वेगवेगळे प्रयत्न राज्य सरकार आणि जिल्हा प्रशासनातर्फे करण्यात आले आहेत. मात्र, अद्यापही या रोगाची साथ आटोक्*यात आली नसून, या महिन्यात "स्वाइन फ्लू'मुळे मृत्युमुखी पडणाऱ्यांची संख्या वाढली आहे.

छाया कांबळे (वय 52, रा. नवी सांगवी) या "स्वाइन फ्लू'च्या रुग्णाचा सायंकाळी पावणेसहा वाजता पालिकेच्या येथील यशवंतराव चव्हाण स्मृती रुग्णालयात (वायसीएम) मृत्यू झाला. त्यांना 31 जुलैला "वायसीएम'मध्ये दाखल करण्यात आले होते. कुसुम पवार यांचाही मृत्यू झाल्याची माहिती अधिकृत सूत्रांनी दिली.
एक एप्रिलपासून पुण्यात 90 रुग्णांचा मृत्यू झाला असून, सुरवातीपासून आतापर्यंत 301 रुग्णांचा मृत्यू झाला आहे.

Two more persons succumbed to H1N1 virus on Tuesday. Kusum Pawar, 48-year-old from Satara, was suffering from cold and fever and was admitted to the Noble Hospital . Her swab tested positive for the virus and she died on August 2. In another incident, a 52-year-old Chhaya Kamble from Navi Sanghvi died on August 2 at YCM Hospital. She was suffering from July 25, according to a release issued by the District Information Office.



There have been 90 swine flu deaths since April, according to the release. A total of 898 persons have tested positive for the virus and 139 patients have been hospitalised. When contacted, Dr AC Mishra, director, National Institute of Virology said there was a break in transmission during the summer months and now with the climate change there has been a rise in the number of cases. So far, there is no mutation and preventive measures are available. Dr DB Kadam, head, Department of Medicine at Sassoon General Hospital, pointed out that there is a normal increase in the number of flu cases and it could be both seasonal or swine flu.

बीड - तालखेडमधील (ता. माजलगाव) एका जीपचालकाचा येथील जिल्हा सामान्य रुग्णालयात स्वाइन फ्लूने बुधवारी (ता. चार) पहाटे मृत्यू झाला.

दरम्यान, स्वाइन फ्लूने यापूर्वी एक महिला, एक युवती आणि आता हा तिसरा रुग्ण बळी गेला आहे. स्वाइन फ्लू पॉझिटिव्हचे रुग्णालयात पाच रुग्ण असून आणखी अठरा रुग्णांचे स्वॉब तपासणीसाठी पाठविण्यात आले आहेत, अशी माहिती जिल्हा शल्यचिकित्सक डॉ. बी. डी. पवार यांनी दिली.

ते म्हणाले, की तालखेड येथील सुंदर मनोहर मोरे (वय 42) हा दुसऱ्याच्या जीपवर चालक म्हणून नोकरी करत असे. आता त्याने स्वतःची जीप घेतली होती. त्यामुळे त्याचा दूरवर प्रवास व्हायचा. मंगळवारी (ता. तीन) दुपारी तीन वाजण्याच्या सुमारास सर्दी, कफ या त्रासाने तो जिल्हा सामान्य रुग्णालयात दाखल झाला. मंगळवारीच त्याचा स्वॉब घेऊन तपासणीसाठी प्रयोगशाळेकडे पाठविण्यात आला; परंतु उपचार सुरू असताना बुधवारी (ता. चार) पहाटे त्याचे निधन झाले. सायंकाळी सहा वाजता त्याचा अहवाल जिल्हा रुग्णालयात प्राप्त झाला. तो स्वाइन फ्लू पॉझिटिव्ह असल्याचा आहे. सध्या जिल्हा रुग्णालयात स्वाइन फ्लू पॉझिटिव्ह पाच रुग्ण उपचार घेत आहेत. यातील दोघांना आज, उद्या घरी पाठविण्यात येणार असल्याचे सांगून डॉ. पवार म्हणाले, की गेल्या दोन दिवसांत 19 रुग्णांचे स्वॉब घेऊन प्रयोगशाळेत पाठविण्यात आले आहेत.

दरम्यान, स्वाइन फ्लूमुळे आतापर्यंत दुकडेगाव येथील एका विवाहित महिलेचा मृत्यू झाला. दुकडेगाव येथेच स्वाइन फ्लूचे पॉझिटिव्ह रुग्ण बरेच आढळले होते. तेथे आरोग्य यंत्रणा सतर्कही झाली. यानंतर रविवारी (ता. एक) काकडहिरा (ता. पाटोदा) येथील एका मुलीचा स्वाइन फ्लूने मृत्यू झाला आणि आज या आजाराचा तिसरा बळी गेला आहे.

औरंगाबाद - गेल्या वर्षी राज्याला हादरवून टाकणाऱ्या स्वाइन फ्लूची दहशत पुन्हा पसरणे सुरू झाले आहे. औरंगाबादेत गेल्या महिन्यात तीन रुग्णांना लागण झाल्याचे निष्पन्न झाले. दरम्यान, गेल्या 24 तासांत तीन संशयित रुग्णांचा मृत्यू झाला, तर घाटीच्या स्वाइन फ्लू वॉर्डात पाच रुग्ण अत्यवस्थ आहेत.

याविषयी अधिक माहिती देताना घाटीच्या मेडिसीन विभागप्रमुख डॉ. मंगला बोरकर, डॉ. पद्मजा सराफ यांनी सांगितले, की स्वाइन फ्लू रुग्णांसाठी गेल्या वर्षी घाटी रुग्णालयात सुरू केलेल्या स्वतंत्र वॉर्डात आज 11 रुग्ण दाखल झाले आहेत. काल रात्रीपासून तीन संशयित रुग्णांचा मृत्यू झाला. त्यात सविता ठाकूर (वय 42, रा. अंबड), चंद्रकांत (वय 38, रा. कन्नड) आणि संजीव शेवाळे (वय 30, रा. ढवळापुरी) यांचा समावेश आहे. या तीनही रुग्णांचे लाळनमुने (स्वॅब) पुण्याच्या विषाणू तपासणी प्रयोगशाळेकडे पाठविण्यात आले आहेत. दरम्यान, घाटीत दाखल असलेल्या 11 जणांचे नमुने पुण्यास पाठविले आहेत. सध्या वॉर्डात दाखल असलेल्या रुग्णांपैकी पाच जणांची प्रकृती गंभीर आहे. त्यात तीन महिलांचा समावेश आहे. आगामी काळात ही साथ वाढण्याची भीती व्यक्त होत आहे.

पुणे - शहर आणि जिल्ह्याच्या परिसरात स्वाइन फ्लूने तिघा जणांचा मृत्यू झाला आहे. त्यामुळे गेल्या एप्रिलपासून स्वाइन फ्लूच्या बळींची संख्या 93 झाली आहे, तर गेल्या वर्षापासून एकूण 304 बळी गेले आहेत.

विनोद शिवाजी गावडे (वय 30, रा. शेळगाव, ता. इंदापूर) यांचे मंगळवारी पहाटे ससून रुग्णालयात निधन झाले. त्यांना 27 जुलैपासून ताप आणि खोकल्याचा त्रास होता. सोमवारी त्यांना ससून रुग्णालयात दाखल करण्यात आले होते. अशोक व्यंकटस्वामी रेड्डी (वय 41, रा. आदर्शनगर, पिंपळे गुरव) यांचे मंगळवारी रात्री पावणेआठ वाजता ससून रुग्णालयात निधन झाले. भारती फरगाडे (वय 40, रा. वरवंड, ता. दौंड) यांचे मंगळवारी पूना हॉस्पिटलमध्ये निधन झाले.

Swine flu infection rate at 40%, alert sounded

PUNE: National Institute of Virology (NIV) has advised people to be alert and take precautionary measures to ward off swine flu as the infection rate has risen to 40% now.

??There has been a significant rise in the number of people suffering from the H1N1 influenza this year compared to 2009, when the rate was between 15% and 25%. However, it has already touched 40% now with a spurt in cases during the second wave. Precaution is the key to protection from the infection,?? NIV director AC Mishra told TOI on Wednesday.

??We, at the NIV, have been receiving about 200 throat swab samples from all over Maharashtra daily. Many of these are coming from far flung areas that remained unscathed last year. There has been an increase in the number of cases,?? he said.

Elaborating, Mishra said, ??The pandemic H1N1 virus has become a dominant strain now,?? he said.

Three die of H1N1 in Nashik; toll rises to 11

Three persons died of H1N1 at a civil hospital here taking the death toll due to the viral infection in the district since June to 11, official sources said today. Popat Dande (42), Sitabai Gawli (70) and Shivaji Sonawane (40) died at the Nashik civil hospital, they said. As many as 196 patients
have been admitted to various government hospitals in the district for suspected H1N1 infection since April, out of which 57 have been tested positive for the deadly viral infection, they said.

Meanwhile, in Kolhapur, a 13-year-old boy succumbed to H1N1 infection today.

Mustafa Abdul Naikawadi died at the CPR government hospital. He was on ventilator for the last few days.

PUNE: The H1N1 influenza claimed three more persons on August 3, taking the death toll in the city to 304 since August 2009.

According to state health officials, Ashok Venkatswamy Reddy (41), a resident of Adarshnagar, Pimple Gurav, died due to swine flu at Sassoon general hospital at 8.40 pm on August 3. Reddy had developed symptoms of cough and mild breathlessness from July 30. Vinod Shivaji Gawade (23), a resident of Indpur taluka, succumbed to the swine flu infection at the Sassoon hospital at 5.45 am on the same day. Gawade had developed fever with chills and cough. Third victim Bharati Suresh Fargade (40), a resident of Varwand, died due to swine flu at Poona hospital at 9.40 pm on August 3. Fargade had developed symptoms like fever, cough and breathlessness. "All the three had tested positive to the H1N1 virus," said Fargade.

Meanwhile, as many as 39 people tested positive for the infection on August 4. Conditions of 19 people continued to be critical and have been put on ventilator support. A total 2,677 people were administered Tamiflu after medical examination in Pune district. As many as 150 positive patients are being treated at various hospitals while another 131 suspected of the infection are also hospitalised. As many as 93 people have succumbed to the virus since April this year.

The National Institute of Virology (NIV) has cautioned people to be on alert and take all precautionary measures as the infection rate of H1N1 influenza has gone up to 40 per cent from the earlier 20-25 per cent.

"The vaccine is definitely advised. However, thinking that once vaccinated, there is no need to be cautious is absolutely wrong. People should follow all precautionary measures even after vaccination. The vaccines are found to be giving immunity to 90 per cent of people who have undergone vaccination. However, a few people may catch the infection even after taking the shot. Hence, taking all precautions is always advised," said A C Mishra, director, NIV.

Swine flu claims four in Marathwada, toll 14

AURANGABAD: Swine flu has resurfaced in Marathwada, with four confirmed patients and an equal number of suspected ones succumbing to the contagion in the last 36 hours, taking the toll in the region to 14.

Five people one of them confirmed and four suspected to be suffering from swine flu died in Aurangabad at the government medical college and hospital (GMCH) and three (H1N1 confirmed case) lost their lives in the Latur division in the last 36 hours.

"Since April this year, swine flu has claimed 13 people in Latur division alone," said Ashfaq Ahmed, assistant director of health services (Latur).

"About 15 throat swabs were sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, of which we received reports in six cases including one patient, who was found negative, and was discharged," said PL Gattani, resident medical officer, GMCH. At present, four patients are being treated along with five other suspected cases at the GMCH.

Two of the patients with suspected swine flu symptoms Savita Khirdikar (20) from Vaijapur and Ravindra Phuljhade (30) from Chikhli in Buldhana district, died on Thursday while three others succumbed on Wednesday. They have been identified as Savita Thakur (42) a resident of Shahgad in Ambad taluka, Sanjay Shevale (30), a resident of Dhavalapurin in Badnapur taluka and Chandrakant Thorat (38), a resident of Kannad.

Gattani said the GMCH received reports in six cases from the NIV, and of them five were declared positive, including Savita Thakur, who died on Wednesday.

Of the nine patients being treated at the GMCH, four are positive and the swabs have been sent in the others cases. He said that the hospital administration has a good stock of Tamiflu tablets and the vaccines are also ready to be offered to high-risk groups.

The Latur division of the health department reported more deaths than Aurangabad division. According to Ashfaq Ahmed, since April this year, 16,261 patients were screened, 205 of them were found positive, of which 183 were discharged, while 10 patients are still being treated at the isolated wards in the civil hospitals in the division.

He said that since April 2010, Latur district recorded two deaths due to swine flu, Beed district three while seven died of H1N1 in Nanded district. No deaths were reported from Osmanabad district, though 10 H1N1-positive patients are being treated at the civil hospital there. He said 3,560 patients were given Tamiflu tablets.

"A total of 14,024 people were screened for the symptoms in Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani and Hingoli districts since April 2010, of them 109 were given Tami flu tablets. At present, 15 patients are being treated at different hospitals, including the GMCH", said A L Deshpande, the in-charge deputy director of health services, Aurangabad.

Four swine flu deaths have led the toll to 97 in Pune district within a span of just three months.

An official release said that two year old Hiya Agarwal from Pimpri who was suffering from July 24 had been suffering from fever, cough and cold since five days and she died on August 5 at D Y Patil hospital, Pimpri.

Nineteen year old Sushma Hankare from Sangli died on August 5 at Y C M hospital at Pimpri. She was suffering for fever, cough and cold from July 22 and was admitted to YCM hospital on July 27.

Thirty year seven year old Ganesh Krishana Pille from Juna Bazar Khadki Pune had suffered from fever, cough and breathlessness since four days He was admitted to the Khadki cantonment hospital and died on August 1.

Two more swine flu patients, including a pregnant woman, died at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Aurangabad on Friday.


Manisha Ingle (25) from Dongaon village of Bulhana district and Vijay Pawar (24) from Vadigodri of Jalna district died on Friday. Manisha, who had been hospitalised for three days, was put on a ventilator after being diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome. Dr Mangala Borkar, head of Medicine department, GMCH told The Indian Express that the swine flu symptoms in her body were diagnosed after the GMCH received her swab reports from the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.


Vijay Pawar had been under treatment for a week. The throat swab of the deceased Pawar has been sent to the NIV.


At present, 11 people affected with swine flu have been admitted to GMCH, of which the swab reports of four have tested positive. ?Their condition is critical,? Dr. Borkar said. The GMCH is awaiting reports of their throat swabs from NIV. The GMCH has forwarded 61 swab samples to NIV in the last month and received 57 reports till date. Of this 15 tested positive.

On Thursday, five people died of H1N1, the highest in a single day so far in the region. All of them had complications and developed acute respiratory distress syndrome.


The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation has begun H1N1 screening and treatment facilities at all five corporation- run hospitals. ?About 200 patients were screened on the very first day at these hospitals,? Aurangabad Mayor Anita Ghodele said.


Meanwhile, Aurangabad MP Chandrakant Khaire today reviewed the government?s preparedness to deal with the situation in a meeting of the administration and health officials. The MP assured that all necessary support to deal with H1N1 cases would be provided. He also visited the swine flu special ward at GMCH.

AURANGABAD: One more succumbed to the H1N1 virus here on Friday, taking the death toll due to swine flu in Marathwada to 15.

The throat swab report from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) confirmed Manisha Amol Ingle, a resident of Dongargaon in Mehkar taluka of Buldana, as a victim of the H1N1 virus.

"Manisha died at the government medical college and hospital (GMCH) on Friday," said P L Gattani, the GMCH superintendent.

Since April 2010, the Aurangabad and Latur divisions of the health department had recorded a death toll of 14.

Gattani said that one more patient, Sunanda Shah (58), a resident of Jalna, died in the early hours of Saturday at the isolation ward where she was admitted after showing H1N1 symptoms. However, the throat swab report in her case is awaited from the NIV, Pune. So far about 15 throat swab sample reports are awaited. He also said that 13 patients were currently admitted to the isolation ward in GMCH. Three of them were H1N1 positive according to NIV reports.

Padmakar Kadam, in charge of the Influenza A H1N1 ward at the government hospital, said that Sonawane of Gondavale, who was six months pregnant, was undergoing treatment for the last four days. Rangubai Shinde, from Murti taluka, was admitted to a private hospital at Lonand. When her condition worsened, the doctor asked her relatives to take her to Pune for treatment. Shinde breathed her last near Neera-Jejuri while on her way to Pune, he said.

The government hospital is currently treating three confirmed H1N1 cases and six others who are showing symptoms of swine flu, Kadam said.

District health officer Bhagwan Pawar told TOI that in view of the increasing spread of swine flu, a special ward with 48 beds has been kept ready at the Krantisinh Nana Patil government hospital. Since last year, as many as 84 positive cases have been reported in the district. Of these, 27 have died.

Pawar said. "As many as 1.08 lakh patients were screened in the district so far. Of these, 84 are positive and 674 were suspected cases. Nearly 281 swab samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology," he said.

District civil surgeon Suresh Jagdale said the government hospital has a stock of 20,000 Tamiflu tablets, 559 bottles of Tamiflu syrup and 1,000 masks to combat H1N1.

PUNE: Swine flu death toll in the city rose up 310 since August 2009 on Friday with two more persons succumbing to dreaded influenza virus. Meanwhile, according to state health officials, around 29 H1N1 positive persons are on ventilator support at various hospitals in the city.

State health officials said, Ashok Kashinath Deshmane (55) of Padharpur in Solapur district, died at the Sassoon general hospital on August 6. He had developed symptoms like fever, cough and chest pain since August 2. Deshmane was admitted to the hospital on August 4 and was put on ventilator on the same day.

Meenal Viren Kudale (27), a resident of Dattanagar, Thergaon, died at the Yashwantrao Chavan memorial hospital in Pimpri on August 6. Kudale had developed symptoms like cough, cold and fever from July 25. She complained of breathlessness on July 27, following which she was admitted to the isolation ward of the YCMH. She died at 6.45 pm on Friday.

With this, the number of people who succumbed to the H1N1 virus since April rose to 99.

Meanwhile, 38 people tested positive for swine flu on Friday. Since April, 1,009 has been declared positive in the city. So far, more than 2,762 people have been administered Tamiflu.

The condition of the 29 patients who are on ventilator support is reported to be critical. According to latest reports, around 152 patients have been admitted to various hospitals in the city for swine flu treatment while over 9,142 people visited various screening centres.

Swine flu claims pregnant women in Satara


SATARA: Neelam Sonawane a 21-year-old pregnant woman died of swine flu at the Krantisinh Nana Patil government hospital here on Friday while Rangubai Shinde (25), suspected to be suffering from swine flu, also died on Friday, while being taken to Pune.

Padmakar Kadam, in charge of the Influenza A H1N1 ward at the government hospital, said that Sonawane of Gondavale, who was six months pregnant, was undergoing treatment for the last four days. Rangubai Shinde, from Murti taluka, was admitted to a private hospital at Lonand. When her condition worsened, the doctor asked her relatives to take her to Pune for treatment. Shinde breathed her last near Neera-Jejuri while on her way to Pune, he said.

The government hospital is currently treating three confirmed H1N1 cases and six others who are showing symptoms of swine flu, Kadam said.

District health officer Bhagwan Pawar told TOI that in view of the increasing spread of swine flu, a special ward with 48 beds has been kept ready at the Krantisinh Nana Patil government hospital. Since last year, as many as 84 positive cases have been reported in the district. Of these, 27 have died.

Pawar said. "As many as 1.08 lakh patients were screened in the district so far. Of these, 84 are positive and 674 were suspected cases. Nearly 281 swab samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology," he said.

District civil surgeon Suresh Jagdale said the government hospital has a stock of 20,000 Tamiflu tablets, 559 bottles of Tamiflu syrup and 1,000 masks to combat H1N1.
